The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of hope and the influencing factors on the hope in the hemodialysis patients. The subjects of this study consisted 101 patients who had received hemodialysis In two hospitals affiliated with Catholic University from June to August, 2000. The instruments used for the study were the Hope scale by Miller(1998) and Quality of life scale, Self esteem scale and Social support scale. Cronbach's $\alpha$ of measurement tools used in the study were 0.93 for the hope, 0.96 for quality of life, 0.78 for self-esteem and 0.92 for the social support. The data were analyzed by mean, t-test, ANOVA. Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression using the SAS program. The results were as follows; 1. Out of a score of 164 the mean score of the hope was $107.3\pm16.7$. The mean quality of life score was 102.5 out of 160. The scores concerning social support turned out to have a mean of 67.8 out of 100. The levels concerning self-esteem and self respect had a mean of 25.1 out of 40. 2. There was a positive relation between the quality of life and social support. Furthermore, the hope level was proportional to factors such as quality of life and social support. 3. Social support accounted for $32\%$ of influential variable on the hope. If transportation way to the hospital and quality of life were added. the total predictors explained $45\%$. The results suggested that the hope levels of hemodialysis patients were influenced by their social support and quality of life. Therefore nurses are encouraged to elevate the levels of patients' hope by using the social support and quality of life in caring the patients receiving hemodyalysis.

The score of quality of life was negatively correlated with the score of depression (r=-.014) and positively with the score of social support (r=.338). The suitable regression from the results of the multiple regression analysis to investigate factors influencing quality of life was expressed by y=58.341-$0.361x_1$+$1.492x_2$ ($x_1$: social support, $x_2$: depression) and $R^2$=.327. Conclusion: These results suggest that elderly people in rural areas with high quality of life is likely to be low in depression and high in social support. Therefore, it is necessary to develop health promotion programs in due consideration of depression and social support in order to enhance the quality of life of elderly people in rural areas.
Purpose - There are many antecedences and consequences of the positive emotions of customers. The purpose of this research is to examine how Chinese service companies improve not only the positive emotions of customers but also the quality of life through effective verbal and nonverbal communication. Furthermore, we tried to analyze the moderating role of negative expectancy disconfirmation perceived by customers in those causal relationships among the variables. Research design, data, and methodology - The eight hypotheses were proposed and we tested them empirically in this research. Four hypotheses were about the relationship among communication, positive emotion, trust and quality of life. The other four hypotheses were about the moderating effect of negative expectancy disconfirmation in the causal relationships among four variables such as communication, positive emotion, trust and quality of life. A total of 356 samples who had visited the service companies in China were surveyed and 8 hypotheses were tested by empirical analysis using SPSS and AMOS. Results - The results of this research are as follows. First, positive verbal communication and nonverbal communication of employees in the service company have a positive effects on the positive emotions of customers. Second, positive emotion has a positive effect on the overall quality of life on the customer side as well as the trust on the corporate side. Third, negative expectancy disconfirmation perceived by customers has negative moderating effect in the causal relationship between employees' positive verbal communication and customers' positive emotion, and it also has a negative moderating role in the causal relationship between customers' positive emotion and overall quality of life. Conclusions - Based on these results, there can be such implications as follows. First, managers and employees of service companies can induce positive emotion of customers through effective communication. Second, service companies should try to improve not only the corporate-side performance like trust but also the customer-side performance like quality of life. Third, it will be significant for them to lower the level of negative expectancy disconfirmation for the purpose of improving not only the positive emotions of customers but also the quality of customers' life.
Purpose: This study was to identify health-related quality of life of Korean young adults and elderly with multimorbidity and to examine factors influencing their health-related quality of life. Methods: Health-related quality of life was measured by the Korean version of the EQ-5D. Using a descriptive study, the study incorporated a secondary analysis of the Korean version of the EQ-5D data from the 8th wave of the Korea Health Panel Survey in 2013. Selected demographic data and the Korean version of the EQ-5D were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. Results: Education, drinking, type of health insurance, and number of chronic disease significantly affected the health-related quality of life in the young adults with multimorbidity. Educational level, occupational type, drinking, physical activity, number of chronic disease, unmet healthcare need and the type of multimorbidity significantly affected the health-related quality of life in the elderly with multimorbidity. Conclusion: The factors influencing health-related quality of life were different for young adults versus elderly with multimorbidity. Therefore, there is a need for age-specific health care programs that may improve health-related quality of life of adults with multimorbidity.
In this study, the aim was to examine the effects of caring burdens of family caregivers of cancer patients on their quality of life in the east of Turkey. Data were collected at the Chemotherapy unit of Yakutiye Research Hospital of Ataturk University. Participants were 18 years old and older. The sample included 190 family caregivers who were living in the same flats with the patients during caregiving. Data were collected using a questionnaire that included socio-demographic questions for family caregivers and the Burden Interview, and the Caregiver Quality of Life Index-Cancer (CQOLC) Scale. SPSS version 14.0 was used to analyse the data. Descriptive statistics were computed for demographic variables of family caregivers. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between the care burden and quality of life, linear logistic regression analysis was applied to determine the effect care burdens have on the quality of life, and logistic regression analysis was employed to determine the effect descriptive characteristics and care-related properties have on the quality of life. The score mean of the burden interview of caregivers was $36.6{\pm}11.2$; and their score mean of CQOLC was $81.4{\pm}17.3$. This study concluded that there was a negative relationship between caring burdens and the quality of life (p<0.001); descriptive characteristics, caring-related properties, and caring burden variables were all significant predictors of the quality of life. It is recommended that caregivers are given support by being offered training about providing care.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing health promoting behavior and quality of life in the nursing students, to provide the basic data for health promoting intervention in order to improve quality of life. The subjects of this study were 199 nursing students, living in M city, during the period from May 18 to 25, 1999. The instruments for this study were the health promoting behavior scale developed by Walker et al.(1987), the quality of life scale by Ro(1988), the self efficacy scale by Sherer(1982), the health locus of control scale by Wallston et al. (1978) and the self esteem scale by Rogenberg(1965). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, stepwise multiple regression, t-test, ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows; 1. The health promoting behavior showed significant positive correlation with self efficacy, self esteem, internal health locus of control and quality of life. 2. The quality of life showed significant positive correlation with self efficacy, self esteem, internal health locus of control. 3. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of health promoting behavior was self efficacy. A combination of self efficacy, self esteem, health locus of control and quality of life accounted for $41\%$ of the variance in health promoting behavior. 4. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of quality of life was self esteem. A combination of self esteem, self efficacy and health promoting behavior accounted for $40\%$ of the variance in quality of life. Based on the above findings, it is suggested to develop nursing intervention to improve Self Efficacy, Self Esteem of nursing students enhance health promoting lifestyle.
Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between comorbid obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and quality of life in stable patients with schizophrenia. Methods : We interviewed 162 symptom-stable inpatients who have been on a constant dose of antipsychotics for at least 3 months prior and diagnosed as chronic schizophrenia. Subsequently, patients were classified according to the existence of OCD as evaluated using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV (DSM-IV). Further, all clinical and demographic data were collected and evaluated. To investigate potential interrelationships, the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), Korea-Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (K-PANSS), Korean Modification of the Scale to Measure Subjective Well-Being under Neuroleptic Treatment (KmSWN) and Korean Version Quality of Life Scale (K-QOLS) were performed. Independent t-test and Chi-square test were used to compare groups and regression analysis was done to assess the relationship between the Y-BOCS and quality of life. Results : Schizophrenia patients with OCD showed significantly earlier onset of schizophrenia, more severe psychiatric symptoms and lower quality of life, compared to those without comorbid OCD. OCD might be associated with lower quality of life in schizophrenia. Conclusion : Schizophrenia patients with OCD showed lower quality of life than those without OCD. In the treatment for schizophrenia, evaluation of OCD might be needed to improve their quality of life and social function.
Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to analyze and evaluate prior studies published in Korea on the cardiovascular disease-related quality of life, in order to make recommendations for further research. Methods: A total of 15 studies were selected from four databases(Digital library of Research Information Center for Health, Korea Medical Database, MedRic, and National Assembly Library). The selected studies were analyzed according to criteria, such as diagnosis/operation, used instrument, generic/specific instrument, dimension of quality of life, translation/ back-translation, sample size, reliability, validity, responsiveness, number of items, type of scale, time required, and independent variables. Results: Of the 15 cardiovascular disease-related quality of life studies, approximately half of them were conducted with hypertension or ischemic heart disease patients. All studies asserted that the concept of quality of life had multidimensional attributes. With respect to the questionnaire used for measuring the quality of life, only one study used a cardiovascular disease specific-instrument and most studies did not consider whether or not the validity of their instrument had been established. In addition, when using questionnaires developed in other languages, only one study employed a translation/back-translation technique. The types of variables tested for their influence on quality of life were quite limited. Conclusion: It is recommended to develop a reliability and validity established cardiovascular disease specific-quality of life for Korean patients and to identify associated new variables.
