Fundamental Study on Earthwork Quality Control Based on Intelligent Compaction Technology (지능형 다짐기술을 통한 토공사 품질관리를 위한 기초 연구)

  • In this paper, intelligent compaction (IC) technology and the earthwork quality control specifications based on IC were analyzed, and the field study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the representative IC value CMV (Compaction Meter Value) and spot test results (plate bearing test and field density test). As the number of roller passes increased, both the CMV and spot test results increased. However, point-by-point comparison between CMV and spot test results yielded poor quality correlations; this is because the ununiform stiffness of the underlying layer and the moisture content of the lift layer affected the CMV and spot test results, respectively. Most international specifications related to IC requires knowledge of the IC values and their relationships with the soil properties obtained by the traditional spot tests. Therefore, for the successful implementation of intelligent compaction technology into earthwork construction practice, the number of roller passes as well as the lift thickness and the moisture content of the soil should be carefully considered.

A Study on factors Affecting Quality of Life in Patients on Dialysis (투석환자의 삶의 질에 미치는 영향요인 분석)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify stress, fatigue, and self efficacy in patients on dialysis and identify their effect on quality of life. Method: The participants (n=149) who agreed to participate in the research were selected from among those who were on dialysis treatment at C University Medical Centers in Seoul and Inchon, and at C University Medical Center in Jeju. The data were collected from July, 2001 to March, 2002 using interviews. Data analysis was done with t-test, ANOVA, and multiple stepwise regression using the SAS program. Result: Quality of life was significantly different according to economic status, and type of dialysis. Quality of life for the group with higher economic status was better than for the group with lower economic status, and the group on peritoneal dialysis had higher quality of lift scores than the group on hemodialysis. As for self-efficacy, there were significant difference according to duration of disease, type of dialysis, and duration of dialysis. Stress was significantly different according to marital status. Quality of life was significantly predicted by stress (40.02%) and fatigue (3.85%). Conclusion: To improve quality of life for people on dialysis, their stress should be treated positively, also multi-dimensional nursing interventions to provide emotional support and nursing interventions to diminish fatigue are required.

  • Recently, RF inductor having researched by many workers, we fabricated and investigated properties of RF inductors. In order to improve the Q-factor (Quality), we try to apply the patterned Fe$_{78.81}$Ta$_{8.47}$N$_{12.71}$ soft magnetic thin film of 5000 which shows magnetic anisotropy of 30 Oe. Thus, patterned magnetic film was artificially increased magnetic anisotropy lead to increasing of ferro-magnetic resonance frequency up to GHz band. Coil as part of inductor was fabricated by lift off process. The dimension of RF inductor was designed 47un, rectangular shape, and measured properties. In the case of Ti/Ag air core type inductor shows Q of 9, inductance of 8.4 nH at 2 GHz. Magnetic film employed inductor shows inductance of 9 nH and FMR resonance frequency was 700 MHz.

Management for Gait Disturbance and Foot Pain in a Patient with Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber Syndrome : A case report

  • Background : Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital medical condition characterized by complex vascular malformation. KTS consists of a classic triad of capillary malformation (hemangioma), venous malformations and bone or soft tissue hypertrophy causing limb asymmetry. The aim of this report is to describe management for gait disturbance and foot pain in a Patient with KTS using custom-made total contact insole. Case presentation : A 32-year-old man with KTS presented with a 3-year history of gait disturbance on hard surface due to right first toe pain and Achilles tendon tightness. The patient had soft tissue hypertrophy, varicose veins and port-wine stains over the right lower limb associated with KTS. True leg length discrepancy was 2 cm. We prescribed custom-made total contact insole to protect his deformed foot and correct leg length discrepancy. The insole of right side included wedge shaped heel lift and the insole of left side included full length lift to add extra support on unaffected side. Also, we provided compression stocking and physiotherapy including manual lymphatic drainage for lymphedema and stretching exercise for tightness in right lower extremity. At 3 years follow-up, postural alignment including pelvic obliquity was improved using a custom-made total contact insole. The degree of scoliosis and foot pain were also reduced. Conclusion : An individualized and multidisciplinary approach is essential regarding the complexity of comorbidities in patients with KTS. For patients with KTS, orthotic management should be considered to prevent and correct deformities related to KTS. Active orthotic management, compression stocking and physiotherapy can enhance the quality of life and function in patients.

A Study on the Design and Fabrication of GHz Magnetic Thin Film Inductor Utilizing Co90Fe10/SiO2 Multilayer (Co90Fe10/SiO2 Multilayer를 이용한 GHz 자성박막 인덕터 설계 및 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the optimum structure of 2GHz magnetic thin film planar inductor were designed and fabricated to reduce the inductor area and to maximize the inductance L and quality factor Q of the inductor. The optimum design was performed utilizing Co90Fe10 layer multilayered with SiO2 layers to avoid the eddy-current skin effect and considering new lumped element model. New magnetic thin film inductors operating at 2GHz were fabricated on a Si substrate utilizing photo-lithography and lift-off techniques. The frequency characteristics of L, Q, and impedance in more than fifty identical inductors were measured using an RF Impedance Analyzer(HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). The self-resonant frequencies(SRF) of the inductors were measured by a Vector Network Analyzer(HP8510). The developed inductors have SRF of 1.8 to 2.3GHz, L of 47 to 68nH, and Q of 70 to 80 near 1GHz. Finally, high frequency, high performance, planar micro-inductor(area=30.8 x 30.8il$^2$) with maximized L and Q were fabricated succefully.

The Implementation of a Lift Emergency Video Call System based on WebRTC using OpenAPI

  • In this paper, we present a WebRTC-based emergency video call system structure that builds a service system in a constant monitoring environment to increase the usability and stability of elevator emergency call devices. The proposed system provides a smooth call environment between the emergency call system in the elevator and maintenance managers in case of an emergency, performs rapid response processing to elevator emergency calls through monitoring of the target elevator, and handles any emergency calls that may occur in the physical space of the elevator. The purpose is to build an environment that can implement low-latency, real-time video call services of voice and video by overcoming the physical constraints required for video calls. To this end, we have established a service environment based on OpenAPI, which is currently used in various fields and its performance has been proven, and provides video calls and emergency situation dissemination through rapid messaging by providing low-latency call quality. The presented system structure will be able to provide a basis for expanding various functions and constructing a reliable service environment and intelligent model for the elevator system through combination with the elevator control panel and various devices.

  • The elevator system combines various convergence technologies with the development of ICT technology. Emergency call devices which are safety related devices is applied as an obligation of the elevator and those scope also varies. In this paper, we propose an integrated model that overcomes the limitations of existing voice emergency call devices and efficiently manages and manages video call based service structures in VoIP based on wired and wireless environments. This method effectively manages and operates various lift data and video records in the elevator between the manager, the server and the user. And also It is possible to secure the quality of video call in VoIP and cloud service environment and increase the reliability of safety management and enhance various service environment by creating an integrated structure utilizing various data and additional services in the elevator.

  • As construction project is becoming larger, construction progress and works are more various and complex according to recent Korean construction tendency. The growth of construction induces much pollution on the progress of construction and the problems due to the construction pollution are raised into social problem strongly, because it is increasing the need on the quality of lift and the desire of clean environment. This study aimed to seek far the effective solving plan of the construction popular complaints by surveying the real condition of construction popular complaints and analyzing the cause and tansaction period of popular complaints. For this study, the laws related and popular complaints were analysed focusing on the documents in low district offices of Gwangju from 2000 to 2004. As a result, the types of construction popular complaints were divided into 17 and the causes were as follows in order: crack and subsidence of ground(14.90%), infringement of private life(11.55%), noise(10.80%), infringement of a right to sunshine(10.07%) and breakdown(6.7%). Consequently, it is considered that these complaints are occurred by physical and environmental causes.

  • Recently the number of elderly have been increasing at a rapid pace in Korea. Accompanying this aged society are numerous health problems. Whit this in mind health-promotion behaviors such as physical activity. good nutrition and stress management are vitally important to the elderly in reducing the risk of Health problems, maintaining health and improving the overall quality of life. Health promotion programs for the elderly must be developed. The purpose of th is study was to determine influential cognitive factors on health-promotion behaviors and the effects of previously implemented Health promotion programs. For this, previous studies were reviewed and analyzed. The results were as follows. 1. Cognitive factors on health-promotion behaviors were internal locus of control, perceived health status, self-efficacy, concerns about health, social support, attending social activities. 2. Components of health promotion programs were exercise and health education. Exercise was performed in most programs. The effects of exercise programs were improved flexibility, muscle strength. balance, cardiopulmonary function and elevated ability of daily living, perceived health status, quality of lift and a decrease depression. The results strongly suggest that complex health promotion programs should be developed. Health promotion programs need to include exercise, health education, health counseling and social activities. We have to consider cognitive factors on health-promotion behaviors.

Seasonal and Regional Variations of Agar Yield and Properties of Tetrasporophytes and Gametophytes in Korean Gracilaria verrucosa (한국산 꼬시래기 (Gracilaria verrucosa)의 사분포자체와 배우체의 한천 수율 및 특성의 계절적·지역적 변화)

  • The effect of season, life stages and harvesting sites on the yield and properties of agars extracted from Gracilaria verrucosa were determined. G. verrucosa were collected seasonally from November 2001 to August 2002 at Cheongsapo and Boryong, Korea. The plants were sorted Into the different life stages (tetrasporophytes and gametophytes) and dried at $60^{\circ}C.$ The yield, sulfate, protein, uronic acid and 3,6-anhydrogalactose of the agar were determined, and standard parameters of physical quality were measured. No differences were found in yield and properties of agars from the two different harvesting sites and from lift history phases. The yield of agar was maximum in summer $(17.3-20.0\%)$ and minimum in winter $(11.9-13.1\%).$ Maximum gel strength occurred in winter when the agar yield and sulfate content were low. Gel strength was negatively correlated with agar yleld. Seasonal variations in agar yield and its quality were discussed in a view to managing the exploitation of this resource.
