The objective of this study was to develop methods for the discrimination of new and stale rice by using an electronic eye. To develop the discriminant, 107 rice samples produced in the years 2015 and 2016 were investigated. After the rice was treated with guaiacol, oxydol, and p-phenylenediamine reagents, an electronic eye was applied to discriminate between newly harvested rice and rice stored for 1 year. Out of the 4,096 color codes of the electronic eye, 31 color codes were identified for the discrimination of newly harvested rice and rice stored for 1 year. The classification ratio of newly harvested rice and rice stored for 1 year was 100% and the discrimination accuracy for unknown samples was 100%. In a total of 150 mixtures of new rice and stale rice, the discrimination accuracy was between 16.7 and 95.6%, depending on the mixing ratio. This capability of the electronic eye will be useful as a tool for discriminating the production year of rice.

This paper introduces a signal processing technique for discrimination of missile target. In order to detect and discriminate the target, a seeker radar makes use of chirp waveform and stretch processing to generate high resolution range profiles(HRRPs). RELAX(relaxation) algorithm, which is one of the spectral estimation techniques, was used to find scattering centers of a missile from HRRP. From the information on the distribution of one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers on a target, we can discriminate the target without noise.
A paired comparison which is a method of comparative judgements is widely used to increase the amount of information transmitted to human sense organ. In this study, a paired comparison method is proposed for the discrimination capacity and preference analysis of non-skilled sensory inspectors. We consider on order effect, that is, difference of evaluation occurred as a result of sample presentation by random order. The purpose of this paper is to determine a sample with the highest preference degrees by analyzing a discrimination capacity and evaluating preference degrees of sensory inspectors. An analysis of a discrimination capacity is bared on the capacity index obtained by an eigen-vector method and an evaluation of preference degrees is performed by a significance test.
Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) was applied for discrimination according to geographical origin (Korea, China) of herb drugs. Herbal medicine has an important role in clinical therapy in Asian countries such as Korea and China. The objective of this study is to provide a convenient and accurate method to determinate geographical origin (Korea, China) of herbal medicine for quality control whose quality is generally different according to geographical origin. A rapid, nondestructive and accurate discrimination was achieved by NIRS. Second derivative spectra of herb drugs were subjected to discriminant analysis. Herbal medicine drugs such as Cassia Semen, Ganoderma and Smilacis Rhizoma was discriminated accurately according to geographical origin using PLS regression method.
We deal with a resource allocation problem for multimedia service discrimination in wireless networks. We assume that a service provider allocates network resources to users who can choose and access one of the discriminated services. To express the rational service selection of users, the utility function of users is devised to reflect both service quality and cost. Regarding the utility function of a service provider, total profit and efficiency of resource usage have been considered. The proposed service discrimination framework is composed of two game models. An outer model is a repeated Stackelberg game between a service provider and a user group, while an inner model is a service selection game among users, which is solved by adopting the Kalai-Smorodinsky bargaining solution. Through simulation experiments, we compare the proposed framework with existing resource allocation methods according to user cost sensitivity. The proposed framework performed better than existing frameworks in terms of total profit and fairness.

In order to screen out indicators for the discrimination of ginseng habitat, some physical and chemical characteristics of Korean red ginsengs (94 kinds) and Chinese red ginsengs (50 kinds) were analyzed by using a rheometer, an electronic nose system, a combined technique of solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and gas chromatograph equipped with an electron capture detector (GC/ECD), an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP/MS), a near infrared spectrometer (NIRs) and high performance liquid chromatography equipped with evaporative light scattering detector (HPLC/ELSD). The results are summarized as follows: (i) The rhizome strengths of Korean red ginsengs were significantly higher than those of Chinese red ginsengs. (ii) The electronic nose patterns of Korean red ginsengs were significantly different from those of Chinese red ginsengs. (iii) Some unidentified peaks were detected not in the headspace of Korean red ginsengs but in the headspace of Chinese red ginsengs when the headspace volatiles prepared by the SPME technique were analyzed by GC/ECD. (iv) Either the content ratios of K to Ca or Mn to Fe were significantly different between Korean red ginsengs and Chinese red ginsengs. (v) The reflectance ratios of NIRs wavenumbers such as $904\;cm^{-1}\;to\;1088\;cm^{-1}$ for Korean red ginsengs were significantly different from those for Chinese red ginsengs. (vi) The content ratios of ginsenoside-Rg to ginsenoside-Re of Korean red ginsengs were significantly higher than those of Chinese red ginsengs. These results indicate that the rhizome strength, the electronic nose pattern, the occurrence of ECD-sensitive headspace volatile components, the content ratios of K to Ca and Mn to Fe, the NIRs pattern and the content ratio of ginsenoside-Rg to -Re may be indicators for the discrimination of ginseng habitat.
The fish species collected in the Keumho River basin are 42 species 31 genera belonging to 15 Families. This report was investigated for the evaluation of water quality in the Keumho River system which is a tributary of Nakdong River in Korea on september in 1999. The fishes collected were 42 species, 31 genera belonging to 15 Families. The dominant species were 5 species; Zacco platypus, Zacco temmincki, Squalidus chankaensis tsuchigae, Moroco oxycephalus, Squalidus gracilis majimae, and 8 species; Hemibarbus longirostris, Pseudogobio esocinus, Culter brevicauda, Cobitis rotundicaudata, Pseudobagrus fulvidraco, Pungitius sinensis kaibarae, Monopterus albus, Channa argus were rare species. The relationship among the GPI, EC and BOD by the organic pollutants were over 0.9. The group pollution index(GPI) was lowest at St. 1(0.85) and highest at St. 1(0.85) and highest at St. 5(2.33). The water quality of the Keumho river divided into 3 parts; the water of upper reaches in river(St. 1) was 1st class(oligotrophic condition), middle parts(St. 2, 3, 4) were 3rd class($\alpha$-mesosaprobic condition) and lower part(St. 5) was 4th class(Polysaprobic condition) as the source of tap water, respectively. And the tributary which are the Sinryeong Stream(St. 6), the Sincheon(St. 7) and the Donghwa Stream(St. 9) in Keumho river were 2nd class as the source of tap water. The results in this study was represented same patterns as the result by the use of indicator species like as algae and invertebrates for the discrimination of water quality. So, some freshwater fish species can be use applicant for the discrimination of water quality.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of stress types and coping styles on the relationship quality with mothers-in-law perceived by sons-in-law. The data was collected from 300 sons-in-law aged 20~49 by using a survey questionnaire. The main results of this study were as follows: first, factor analysis yielded 4 types of coping(cognitive understanding coping, avoidant coping, direct behavior coping, and indirect behavior coping) and 7 types of stress(despising poor ability and condition, interference in daily life, son-in-law discrimination, wife discrimination, uncomfortable interaction, differences in lifestyle, and excessive demand). Second, the total stress perceived by sons-in-law in the relationship with their mothers-in-law was affected by avoidant coping and cognitive understanding coping. Finally, the relationship quality between mothers-in-law and sons-in-law was influenced by avoidant coping, uncomfortable interaction stress, direct behavior coping, differences in lifestyle stress, son-in-law discrimination stress, interference in daily life stress, frequency of meeting, cognitive understanding coping, indirect behavior coping, and age. Consequently, it was confirmed that sons-in-law's coping styles with stress from their mothers-in-law was more influential than the amount of stress perceived by sons-in-law on the relationship quality with their mothers-in-law. Especially, 'avoidant coping' among 4 styles of coping and 'uncomfortable interaction stress' among 7 types of stress influenced the relationship quality between mothers-in-law and sons-in-law the most.

Beam-quality of medical linac evaluations vary by diverse factors. Because conventional beam-quality evaluation methods yield fragmentary results, a new beam-evaluation method is suggested, and its feasibility is evaluated. The PDDs (percentage depth doses) of 6 MV (Mega-voltage) and 10 MV photon, R (Range) of a 6 MeV (Mega Electron-voltage) and 9 MeV electron were measured and compared with the conventional evaluation methods, and the improved methods $PDD^{10}{_5}$, $PDD^{20}{_{10}}$, $PDD^{30}{_{20}}$, $PDD^{20}{_5}$, $PDD^{30}{_{10}}$, and $R^{70}{_{50}}$, $R^{50}{_{30}}$, $R^{70}{_{30}}$ as the magnetic field of the bending magnet was changed to +2% to -2%, and the results were compared. The comparison showed that the improved methods exhibit a higher discrimination than the conventional methods in each energy regime. $PDD^{10}{_5}$, $PDD^{30}{_{20}}$, $PDD^{30}{_{10}}$ and $R^{70}{_{50}}$, $R^{50}{_{30}}$ should be applied. These methods exhibit a higher discrimination in each energy regime than conventional beam-quality evaluation methods; therefore, they should be used for beam-quality evaluation according to the magnetic field variation.

Organoleptic parameters such as color, odor, and flavor influence consumer perception of drinking water quality. This study aims to evaluate the taste of the selected bottled and tap water samples using an electronic tongue (E-tongue) instead of a sensory test. Bottled and tap water's mineral components are related to the overall preference for water taste. Contrary to the sensory test, the potentiometric E-tongue method presented in this study distinguishes taste by measuring the mineral components in water, and the data obtained can be statistically analyzed. Eleven bottled water products from various brands and one tap water from I city in Korea were evaluated. The E-tongue data were statistically analyzed using multivariate statistical tools such as hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA), and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). The results show that the E-tongue method can clearly distinguish taste discrimination in drinking water differing in water quality based on the ion-related water quality parameters. The water quality parameters that affect taste discrimination were found to be total dissolved solids (TDS), sodium (Na+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), sulfate (SO42-), chloride (Cl-), potassium (K+) and pH. The distance calculation of HCA was used to quantify the differences between 12 different types of drinking water. The proposed E-tongue method is a practical tool to quantitatively evaluate the differences between samples in water quality items related to the ionic components. It can be helpful in quality control of drinking water.
