  • The major purpose of this study is to examine effectiveness of an intervention program which aims at education/training caregivers of the dementia and/or stroke elderly. This program was conducted at group level. Participants of this program were the primary caregivers who have taken care of the elderly with dementia and/or stroke. To test the effectiveness of the caregiver education/training program, this study employed an quasi-experimental design: to compare pretest score with posttest ones for the same participants. Total forty two primary caregivers have completed the program. Seventeen caregivers were in experimental group, whereas twenty five ones belonged to control group. Our data suggest that, for the primary caregivers, subjective quality of life was more important than cargiving burden. Subjective quality of life among the caregivers significantly improved, after completing the program. This result suggests that a short-term intervention program at group level is not effective to reduce caregiving burden because an infra structure of community resources, to which the caregivers and their family access, did not remain at sufficient level. However, participants have showed improved mutual solidarity, and they have exposed to wider spectrum of a variety of information. As a result, they have perceived that the level of subjective quality of life has positively changed. Additional factors have influenced on determining the quality of life among the caregivers. The caregivers, whose demented elderly showed lower level of ADL and IADL, or who have experienced the short period of caregiving, were more likely to belong to higher level of quality of life. The quality of life among the caregivers were even more improved in the following group: being young, and highly educated, man. One of the contributions from this study is that we have found caregiver's characteristics, which need an intervention most. In addition, our study implies that specific contents of the caregivers' education/training program should be conducted based on each family's unique characteristics.

  • The purpose of this article is to describe the overview of current medical treatments of childhood epilepsy in Korea and to review several recent nursing researches related to quality of life problems, especially psychological functioning in children with epilepsy and the stress of the family. The prognosis of childhood epilepsy has been improved considerably and about 80% of patients can now be expected to achieve complete seizure control by the antiepileptic drug treatment. Even for the intractable epilepsy, with the combination of ketogenic diet program and antiepileptic drug therapy or surgical treatment, the prognosis became very much better than before. The majority of research has reported that children with epilepsy were experiencing quality of life problems. They are at risk for impaired functioning, compared to either general population controls or to other chronic illness groups such as asthma and diabetes. The ultimate goal of providing care to children with epilepsy is to control seizures while facilitating an optimal quality of life for the child as well as the family. Recommendations are included for future research and intervention programs for children, parents and our society.

However, in Reference Sheet by radioimmunoassay test kit or a measuring device for the mention of Acceptable Range is somewhat lacking. Radioimmunoassay for the inspection of test results by setting Acceptable Range to increase the objectivity of the recommendations on the data accumulated by the manufacturer listed in the Reference Sheet is to be issued. Materials and Methods : In our hospital since 2009 partially BIO-RAD using quality control materials in 2011, excluding certain items, some items were most of the BIO-RAD third-party quality control materials are used. Thus, internal quality control data accumulated BIO-RAD's Unity Real Time program by using the items were measured. Results : BIO-RAD using quality control material items were about 50 of the 20 Point Data averages, standard deviations, variation coefficients were calculated to measure the Acceptable Range of kit, automated immunoassay attributed Roche Elecsys / E170 / cobas e Systems the measures and compared. Conclusions : BIO-RAD QC materials commonly used hospital and peer group by setting the measurement kit, suitable for laboratory equipment for radioimmunoassay of Acceptable Range manufacturer recommendation to increase the objectivity of the test results by national and international recognition for radioimmunoassay should seek to increase.
