  • Many mid-sized companies in Korean automotive industry have attempted to solve the lack of human power, to control the quality of components, to improve the production rate, and to innovate the manufacturing line. The goals of this study are to analyze the production rate of an automotive component manufacturing line using simulation software, to construct a Flexible Automation Subassembly (FAS) system and to suggest an optimized layout design using FAS line. In this research, the simulation model for manufacturing line was developed and used the realistic data (production planning, component type, working order, process time, queue time, line rules, etc) of a medium sized company in Korean automotive industry. To complete this research, a simulation software 'ARENA' was used.

  • Information communication environment integrates communication, broadcasting and internet, and Digital Convergence service emerges in result. Thus, the effective routers are needed so that they can transmit a huge number of data to core internet through appropriate base center. Therefore, the network guaranteeing QoS in transport layer supports interoperability with different wireless networks. So as to users receive necessary information anywhere seamlessly, the network architecture focuses on packet transmission and it is efficient for the control layer switches and controls packets between different networks. Since individual users take advantage of different services and data, the effective router architecture must be designed. Hence in this paper we design monitoring technique to solve security problem and to support premium service to ultimate users. Thereafter, we run opnet simulation and show the improvement of proposed router architecture.

In this research, the simulation model for manufacturing line was developed and used the realistic data of a medium sized company in Korean automotive industry. To complete this research, a simulation software 'ARENA' was used. This research analyzed the work distribution strategy and cycle time element for production flow and proposed an optimized layout to resolve line balancing problem which would bring the improved production rate.

  • In this paper, BLDC spindle motor is designed using CAE/CAT to reduce structural vibration. Motor is modeled and analyzed using a finite element analysis (FEA) program and correlated to the results of modal test. Design sensitivity analysis (DSA) of frequency is carried out and validated by the modal test of modified motor manufactured. This study shows that simulation-based design can improve quality with reduced development time.

  • In the automatic transmission using planetary gear there exists nonlinearities due to the finite difference between gear ratios, which yield torque hole during shift and influence on the ride quality and life of clutch. Based on the reaction carrier and converter turbine speed sliding functions are defined. Nonlinear closed-loop control laws are derived using them. Computer simulation shows that the closed loop design is better than the open loop design and semi-closed loop design.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of a rectangular dielectric ceramic antenna by the theoretical cavity model such as input impedance resonant frequency quality factor efficiency and bandwidth. Through a compu-ter simulation variation of the antenna characteristics is found as a function of the antenna parametes. (permit-tivity permeability antenna size etc) Based on the results we propose a new design method for the dielectric ceramic antenna to be employed in Global Positioning Systems.

  • A design of scanning electrode driving IC chip has been implemented aiming at the application to liquid crystal color television displays. The chip reflects the design characteristics of high quality liquid crystal panels and satisfies specifications of NTSC type color television displays. The design was verified using logic and circuit simulation, and fabricated using a high voltage CMOS process. A fully working die has been obtained that can be readily applicable to commercial color liquid crystal panels.

  • Purpose: The conjoint analyst in marketing are interested in detecting whether there exist synergy or antagonistic effects between two attributes. In the cases where attributes have two or three levels, we research on the design of survey questionnaire to estimate all the main effect and as many two factor interaction effects as possible. Methods: We consider the balanced incomplete block (BIB) mixed level factorial design $2^f{\times}3^g$ or fractional factorial design. To reduce the number of questions in a questionnaire, we propose the balanced incomplete block mixed level design with minimum aberration which is generated by implementing proc factex in SAS. Also, we propose using two or three level BIB factorial design instead of mixed level designs by transforming three level attributes into two attributes of two levels and two level attribute into three level attribute by using dummy level technique. Results: We propose three methods for designing survey questionnaire where the block and design generators are found with practical number of questions in a questionnaire. By analyzing all the respondents survey data generated by the simulation study, we find the proper model and do the concepts optimization. Conclusion: The proposed methods of designing survey questionnaires seem to perform well in the sense that the proper model, and then the optimal concept is found in a case study where all the respondents survey data are generated by the simulation study.

Study on the PET image quality according to various scintillation detectors based on the Monte Carlo simulation

  • Purpose: Positron emisson tomography (PET) is a crucial medical imaging scanner for the detection of cancer lesions. In order to maintain the improved image quality, it is crucial to apply detectors of superior performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare PET image quality using Monte Carlo simulation based on the detector materials of BGO, LSO, and LuAP. Materials and Methods: The Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) was used to design the PET detector. Scintillations with BGO, LSO and LuAP were modelled, with a size of 3.95 × 5.3 mm2 (width × height) and 25.0 mm (thickness). The PET detector consisted of 34 blocks per ring and a total of 4 rings. A line source of 1 MBq was modelled and acquired with a radius of 1 mm and length of 20 mm for 20 seconds. The acquired image was reconstructed maximum likelihood expectation maximization with 2 iteration and 10 subsets. The count comparison was carried out. Results and Discussion: The highest true, random, and scatter counts were obtained from the BGO scintillation detector compared to LSO and LuAP. Conclusion: The BGO scintillation detector material indicated excellent performance in terms of detection of gamma rays from emitted PET phantom.

자주포 발전기 스플라인 축 내구성 향상을 위한 최적 설계 기법 (The Optimal Design Technique for Improving Durability of Spline Shaft of the Self Propelled Artillery' Generator)

  • In this study, the experimental and analytical investigation on structural integrity evaluation of spline shaft of self propelled artillery' generator were carried out. For this work, macro and microstructure fractography of spline shaft were observed. According to the results of the structure analysis and simulation, the shaft was redesigned and optimized. To improve the stiffness and shear stress, the material was changed from the SNCM220 to SNCM439 and surface roughness and protective coating treatment are changed to increase the stress relaxation, respectively. From the result of the torsion test of shaft and accelerated life test of generator, the shaft of a SNCM439 with heat-treatment(Q/T) and electroless nickel plating was superior quality reliability and durability than the others. Therefore, modeling and simulation corresponded well with the experimental result and structural safety was confirmed by generator performing.
