The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of angular velocity on muscle strength and blood constituent. Subjects was classified into two groups, which were $60^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group (n=8), and $240^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group (n=8). Each group was applied to perform the isokinetic exercises on extensor muscle group for each 7 times in 10 set (3 days per a week for 3 weeks). Muscle strength was measured using peak torque of quadriceps femoris and blood constituent was measured using RBC, WBC and Hb. The peak torque was more significantly increased after 3 weeks application of $60^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group than $240^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group. The RBC and Hb were more significantly increased after 3 weeks application of $60^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group than $240^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group. But WBC was more significantly increased after 3 weeks application of $240^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group than $60^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity group. These results indicate that $60^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity isokinetic exercise application were effective treatment strategy on increase of muscle strength. But $240^{\circ}/sec$ angular velocity isokinetic exercise application were effective treatment strategy on immune protect system.

Background: This study was performed to identify what effect plyometric exercise with application of kinesio taping gives on muscle activity and power of lower limb. Methods: In order to conduct research, total 14 male students at G university located Gwangyang city were randomly assigned; 7 for experimental group (with kinesio taping application) and 7 for control groups(without kinesio taping application) were conducted with box drill, one of the plyometric exercise 5 times a week for 4 weeks. Muscle activities were measured by using electrodiagnosis equipment on quadriceps and gastrocnemius. Collected data was analyzed by using Windows SPSS version 19.0. Results: Muscle activities show statistically significant differences (p<.05) both before and after exercise in experimental and control groups in terms of vastus medialis, rectus femoris, vastus lateralis and lateral gastrocnemius. However, only medial gastrocnemius shows statistically significant differences in experimental group compared before and after exercise. Sargent jump for measuring power shows that only experimental group presents statistically significant differences (p<.05). Two groups show that vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, lateral gastrocnemius and medial gastrocnemius only in muscle activities show statistically significant differences (p<.05) after exercise. Conclusion: The result of this survey indicates that plyometric exercise is effective to improve muscle activity and power of lower limb, especially, the group who exercises with application of kinesio tape is more effective than the other group with no tape application. Therefore, it is considered that plyometric exercise with tape is more effective to improve power and muscle strength.

PURPOSE: This research was intended to investigate the influence to function recovery at the early stage after surgery, by conducting Multipath Electrical Simulation and isometric exercise treatment as early stage medical treatment method for Total knee arthroplasty patients. METHODS: The subject of 30 patients having Unilateral Total knee arthroplasty over age 65, Multipath Electrical Simulation and isometric exercise (experiment group I), Conventional Electrical Simulation and isometric exercise (experiment group II) and isometric exercise (control group). The intervention was performed in 5 times per a week and 60 minutes per a day during 4 weeks. We performed research by conducting Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation and isometric exercise together and measured pain, range of motion, muscle strength and gait ability before and after intervention. RESULTS: The result showed therapeutic improvement in experiment group I, experiment group II and control group, but Multipath Electrical Simulation and isometric exercise showed significant improvement in function recovery of early stage compared to Conventional Electrical Simulation and isometric exercise, only isometric exercise. CONCLUSION: Based on research result, in order for early state function recovery of Total knee arthroplasty patients, when conducting neuromuscular electrical stimulation and isometric exercise together, especially when applying Multipath Electrical Stimulation, we could know that it showed more significant improvement to function recovery after surgery. Also, we suggest that Multipath Electrical Simulation may become a useful tool as a method for intervention and performing in various diseases for weakening of Quadriceps muscle.

Objectives: Exercise with partially restricted blood flow is a low-load, low-intensity resistance training regimen which may have the potential to increase muscle strength in the obese, elderly and frail who are unable to do high-load training. Restricted blood flow exercise has also been shown to affect blood vessel function variably and can, therefore, contribute to blood vessel dysfunction. This pilot study tests the hypothesis that unilateral resistance training of the leg extensors with partially restricted blood flow increases muscle strength and decreases vascular autoregulation. Methods: The subjects were nine normotensive, overweight, young adult African-Americans with low cardiorespiratory fitness who underwent unilateral training of the quadriceps' femoris muscles with partially restricted blood flow at 30% of the 1-repetition maximum (1-RM) load for 3 weeks. The 1-RM load and post-occlusion blood flow to the lower leg (calf) were measured during reactive hyperemia. Results: The 1-RM load increased in the trained legs from $77{\pm}3$ to $84{\pm}4 kg$ (P < 0.05) in the absence of a significant effect on the 1-RM load in the contralateral untrained legs (P > 0.1). Post-occlusion blood flow decreased significantly in the trained legs from $19{\pm}2$ to $13{\pm}2mL{\cdot}min^{-1}{\cdot}dL^{-1}$ (P < 0.05) and marginally in the contralateral untrained legs from $18{\pm}2$ to $16{\pm}1mL{\cdot}min^{-1}{\cdot}dL^{-1}$ (P = 0.09). Changes in post-occlusion blood flow to the skin overlying the trained and the contralateral untrained muscles were not significant. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that restricted blood flow exercise, which results in significant gains in muscle strength, may produce decrements in endothelial dysfunction and vascular autoregulation. Future studies should determine whether pharmacopuncture plays a role in treatments for such blood vessel dysfunction.

Purpose: This study investigated the effect of the augmented reality (AR)-based knee joint short period exercise program and used a motion analyzer with a 3D camera to determine the range of motion and dynamic balance and further investigate the effects of therapeutic exercise on patients. Methods: This study used AR-based motion analysis and a Y-balance test to measure the range of motion (ROM) of each joint: the hip joint and the knee joint. After the measurements, an exercise program was applied to the subjects, using the knee motion program function, and the muscles of the quadriceps femoris and the hamstring were stretched or strengthened. Results: Our results showed knee joint extension at the dominant hip joint flexion position. While there was no significant difference (p>.05) at this position, there were significant differences in the non-dominant hips, unbalanced knee joint flexion, and superior knee joint flexion (p<.05). The Y-balance test using the non-dominant leg supported by the dominant legs showed that the absolute reach was $69.70{\pm}7.06cm$ before the exercise, and the absolute reach after the exercise was $77.56{\pm}6.09cm$ (p<.05). Conclusions: There was a significant difference when the movement of the lower limbs supported the superior limbs, and a significant difference was found in the ROM when the non-dominant side supported the dominant side. Therefore, the AR-based exercise program improves the balance of the human body and the range of motion of the joints, and research that aims to improve patients abilities should continue.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ElectroMyoscope(Electro_Acuscope and Myopulse) in tissue repairing on fatigue quadriceps femoris(rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, and vastus medialis). Subjects were female adult volunteers with (n=13) and without (n=5) chronic fatigue muscle pain. We needed to fatigue the rectus femoris by overusing of a Cybex machine exercise. We turned the Electro-Myoscope to treatment mode and treated with treatment probe on the fatigue muscle, then turned instrument back to EMG and took the reading. The results indicated that the reading after the treatment was lower than before the treatment. A two-tailed t-test and Chi square indicated significant results(P<.03). It appears that the Electro-Myoscope is effective in treatment on the fatigue muscle.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compared the muscle activities of vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris in open kinetic chain and closed kinetic chain. Methods: Subjects of the study were 30 adults students. They were divided into 2 group, one for open kinetic chain and other for closed kinetic chain of extension, flexion, the maximum extension for vastus medialis, vastus latarealis, rectus femoris muscle activation. Results: Rectus femoris increased open kinetic chain group about all posture and vastus medialis increased open kinetic chain group about the maximum extension and flexion. and vastus lateralis increased open kinetic chain group about the maximum extension and flexion. Conclusion: Muscle activation are at the highest with the open kinetic chain in vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris. probably steady exercise thinked for open kinetic chain and closed kinetic chain.
The purpose of this research was to analyze the effects of the increase of the femoral anteversion angle on the unbalanced quadriceps femoris muscle causing the increase of the valgus force on the knee joints and patellofemoral pain syndrome by comparing with the group that shows the smaller femoral anteversion angle. The method for the research was to compare the femoral muscle's activity while the subjects were maintaining the knee joint flexed isometrically for 10 seconds. The evaluation tool for femoral muscle's activity was QEMG-4 (model LXM 3204). The results were as followings. Firstly, in case of the experimental group, the muscle strength of the vastus lateralis muscle was strong while the rectus femoris and vastus medialis were weak. In these facts, we can see the statistically meaningful difference in vastus medialis muscle activity. Secondly, in the muscle activity analysis for vastus lateralis and medialis of the two groups, we could see the vastus lateralis muscle was strong in anteversion wider for experimental group while the vastus medialis muscle contracted far more stronger in anteversion smaller for control group. From these results, we can see the significant differences in muscle recruitment between the two groups. Above results show that if the anteversion becomes wider, vastus medialis muscle will become seriously weaker, on the other hand, vastus lateralis act stronger.
Most athletes with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures undergo a surgical ACL reconstruction (ACLR) and rehabilitation. On the other hand, controversy still exists because neither a reconstruction nor rehabilitation have been proven to be superior in the management of ACL injury. This study reviewed the success rates of interventions to provide recommendations for the optimal management after an ACL injury. One of the most important considerations after an ACL injury is the timing and type of intervention. At the early stages, which involve the loss of volume and strength of quadriceps femoral muscle, weight bearing (closed kinetic chain) exercises with pain management followed by high velocity resistance exercises in an open kinetic chain environment are recommended to improve the quadriceps function. After that, it is important to apply intensive isokinetic exercise with a lower extension rate. In this case, it is important to apply overload to the muscles and to simultaneously lead the co-contraction of the hamstrings. Standards are essential because the timing and type of interventions are crucial to prevent re-injury and complications, such as osteoarthritis, as well as to confirm the successful outcome of the treatment. Different interventions recommended for ACL damage have yet to reach consensus. Further studies will be needed to observe the effects of the intervention through multidisciplinary approaches.
