Novel Quadrature Branch-line Coupler Using CPW-to-Microstrip Transitions (마이크로스트립 전이를 이용하는 CPW Branch-line 커플러)

  • This paper presents new double-sided 3-dB branch-line coupler using CPW-to-Microstrip via-hole transitions for the multi-layer applications. The characteristic impedance is obtained using the even-odd mode method, and the circuit performance Is accurately estimated by the Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method. The fabricated double-sided 3-dB branch-line coupler has less than 0.3 dB power dividing imbalance and 1。 phase imbalance, greater than 30 dB isolation, and 25 dB return loss over a 20% bandwidth centered at 2 GHz. Calculated and fabricated results show that this coupler provides better performance as compared to the conventional microstrip branch-line couplers.

  • In the conventional pulsed doppler system, gated CW is used to excite a ultrasonic transducer so that a group of linear RF amplifiers are required to excite a ultrasonic array transducer in the scanning pulsed doppler system. A pulsed doppler system without linear high voltage RF amplifiers, which excites the transducer impulsively, is studied theoretically and experimentally. In this paper, an experimental 8-channel pulsed doppler system is implemented, which uses quadrature defection to detect the direction of motion and can compensate the attenuation effect. The designed pulsed doppler system shows the possibility of real time multichannel doppler flow meter.

A Fast RSSI using Novel Logarithmic Gain Amplifiers for Wireless Communication

  • This paper presents a fast received signal strength indicator (RSSI) circuit for wireless communication application. The proposed circuit is developed using power detectors and an analog-to-digital converter to achieve a fast settling time. The power detector is consisted of a novel logarithmic variable gain amplifier (VGA), a peak detector, and a comparator in a closed loop. The VGA achieved a wide logarithmic gain range in a closed loop form for stable operation. For the peak detector, a fast settling time and small ripple are obtained using the orthogonal characteristics of quadrature signals. In $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, the RSSI value settles down in $20{\mu}s$ with power consumption of 20 mW, and the maximum ripple of the RSSI is 30 mV. The proposed RSSI circuit is fabricated with a personal handy-phone system transceiver. The active area is $0.8{\times}0.2\;mm^2$.

Comparison between observation and theory for the stand-off distance ratios of CMEs and their associated ICMEs

  • We examine whether the observational stand-off distance ratios of CMEs and their associated ICMEs could be explained by theoretical model or not. For this, we select 16 CME-ICME pairs from September 2009 to October 2012 with the following conditions: (1) limb CMEs by SOHO and their associated ICMEs by twin STEREO spacecraft and vice versa when both spacecraft were roughly in quadrature; (2) the faint structure ahead of a limb CME is well identified; and (3) its associated ICME clearly has a sheath structure. We determine the observational stand-off distance ratios of the CMEs by using brightness profiles from LASCO-C2 (or SECCHI-COR2) observations and those of the ICMEs by solar wind data from STEREO-IMPACT/PLASTIC (or OMNI database) observations. We also determine the theoretical stand-off distance ratios of the CME-ICME pairs using semi-empirical relationship based on the bow shock theory. We find the following results. (1) Observational CME stand-off distance ratio decreases with increasing Mach number at the Mach numbers between 2 and 6. This tendency is consistent with the results from the semi-empirical relationship. (2) The observational stand-off distance ratios of several ICMEs can be explained by the relationship.

Wideband VHF and UHF RF Front-End Receiver for DVB-H Application

  • This paper presents a wideband and low-noise direct conversion front-end receiver supporting VHF and UHFbands simultaneously. The receiver iscomposed of a low-noise amplifier (LNA), a down conversion quadrature mixer, and a frequency divider by 2. The cascode configuration with the resistor feedback is exploited in the LNA to achieve a wide operating bandwidth. Four gainstep modesare employed using a switched resistor bank and a capacitor bank in the signal path to cope with wide dynamic input power range. The verticalbipolar junction transistors are used as the switching elements in the mixer to reduce 1/f noise corner frequency. The proposed front-end receiver fabricated in 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology shows very low minimum noise figureof 1.8 dB and third order input intercept pointof -12dBm inthe high-gain mode of 26.5 dBmeasured at 500 MHz.The proposed receiverconsumeslow current of 20 mA from a 1.8 V power supply.

  • 최근 산업 분야에 걸쳐서 고속, 고정밀도의 요구사항에 따라, 회전 모터와 볼 스크류, 벨트를 이용한 직선구동방식보다 빠르고 정확하며, 효율이 높은 직접구동 방식의 리니어모터 및 컨트롤러의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 이런 상황에 고속 연산을 수행할 수 있는 DSP(Digital Signal Processor)의 사용이 불가피하며, 기존의 칩들은 A/D변환기, PWM발생장치 등이 내장되지 않아 제어장치의 부품 수증가 및 복잡성을 피할 수 없었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 SVPWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) 및 QEP(Quadrature Encoder Pulse) 회로와 PWM 발생기, 12bit의 고속 A/D변환기, 파워 드라이버보호회로 등을 내장한 TMS320F2812 DSP를 사용하여 반도체장비분야, 자동화분야 등에 사용되는 LBLDCM의 제어를 가능하게 만들었다. 또한, 기존의 DSP 시리즈 보다 연산속도가 고속화되어 고속연산에 의한 시간적 제한을 극복 할 수 있게 되었고, 제어에 필요한 하드웨어적인 기능들을 내장하고 있어서 주변회로가 필요 없게 되었다. 따라서 하드웨어의 간소화와 개발 시간의 단축 및 신뢰도의 향상과 모터 효율의 향상을 가져오도록 하였다. 제안된 제어장치는 제작되어, 실험을 통하여 그 타당성을 입증하였다.

Classification and Compensation of DC Offset Error and Scale Error in Resolver Signals

  • This study proposes a classification and compensation algorithm of two non-ideal output signals of a resolver to reduce position errors. Practically, a resolver generates position errors because of amplitude imbalance and quadrature imperfection between the two output signals of the resolver. In this study, a digital signal processor system based on a resolver-to-digital converter is used to reconstruct the two output signals of the resolver. The two output signals, "sin" and "cos," can be represented by a unit circle on the xy-plot. The classification and compensation of the errors can be obtained by using the radius and area of the circle made by the resolver signals. The method computes the integration of the areas made by the two resolver output signals to classify and compensate the error. This system cannot be applied during transient response given that the area integration during the transient state causes an error in the proposed method. The proposed method does not need any additional hardware. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Minimum Distance based Precoder Design for General MIMO Systems using Gram Matrix

  • Assuming perfect channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter and receiver, the optimization problem of maximizing the minimum Euclidean distance between two received signals by a linear precoder is considered for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with arbitrary dimensions and arbitraryary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) input. A general precoding framework is first presented based on the Gram matrix, which is shown for 2-dimensional (2-D) and 3-dimensional (3-D) MIMO systems when employing the ellipse expanding method (EEM). An extended precoder for high-dimensional MIMO system is proposed following the precoding framework, where the Gram matrix for high-dimensional precoding matrix can be generated through those chosen from 2-D and 3-D results in association with a permutation matrix. A complexity-reduced maximum likelihood detector is also obtained according to the special structure of the proposed precoder. The analytical and numerical results indicate that the proposed precoder outperforms the other precoding schemes in terms of both minimum distance and bit error rate (BER).

  • In this paper, after analyzing the effect of I/Q imbalance in an OFDM system, the detection method of an OFDM signal distorted by I/Q imbalance is proposed. Also, the channel estimation and the pilot symbol design scheme are proposed for using the proposed detection method. Since I/Q imbalance in an OFDM system degrades the SIR and the BER(Bit Error Ratio) performance, the robust detection method is required for an OFDM system. the proposed detection method can effectively suppress the interference caused by I/Q imbalance using characteristics of an OFDM signal differently from the conventional method, and results in improving the SIR of a desired OFDM signal.

An Analysis of Electromagnetic Field Scattering for the Dielectric Cylinders (유전체주의 전자장 산란 해석)

  • The scattering property of TMz illuminated perfectly conducting and dielectric cylinders of arbitrary cross section are analyzed by the boundary element techniques. The boundary element equations are formulated via Maxwell’s equations, weighted residual or Green’s theorem, and the boundary conditions. The unknown surface fields on the boundaries are then calculated by the boundary element integral equations. Once the surface fields are found, the scattered fields in from a perfectly conducting circular and elliptic cylinders, a dielectric circular and elliptic cylinders are numerically analyzed. A general computer program has been developed using the quadratic elements(higher order boundary elements) and the Gaussian quadrature.
