Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine whether Sasang medical constitutional distributions of patients with uterine myoma are significantly different from those of healthy women in Korea. Methods: The subjects for this study were 258 patients who were diagnosed with uterine myoma by ultrasonography and classed through a questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II (QSCC II) among patients who entered Kyunghee Bogung oriental medical clinic from June 7th, 2011 to March 7th, 2012. Results: 1. The average size of myoma of subjects was $5.16{\pm}2.48$ and the average age was $37.1{\pm}7.2$ years old. The average age of menarche was $13.13{\pm}1.44$ years old and average frequency of abortion was $0.65{\pm}1.07$. There were no significant differences by constitution in size of myoma, age, marital status, age of menarche, history of giving birth or history of abortion. 2. The overall average BMI of all subjects in this study was 21.4. By constitution, average BMIs were $24.2{\pm}3.2$, $20.5{\pm}2.0$ and $20.2{\pm}2.2$ for Taeumin, Soyangin and Soeumin, respectively. There was a significant difference by constitution. 3. Sasang medical constitutional distributions of subjects was as follows: Taeumin 28.3% (73 patients), Soyangin 35.7% (92 patients), Soeumin 36.0% (93 patients). When compared with those of healthy Korean adult females who did not have uterine myoma (44.4%, 14.8% and 40.9%, respectively), the proportion of Soyangin was significantly higher. Conclusions: We found that Sasang medical constitutional distribution of subjects differs from those of healthy Korean women without uterine myoma and in particular, among Soyangin is significantly higher.
Purpose. This study of purpose was to to compare of Aerobic and Anaerobic Capacity between Sasang Constitutions and ACE Gene Polymorphism. Methods. 24 healthy males were participated in this experiment who were in their twenties and had no disease, then they were divided by ACE type and by Sasang constitutions with QSCC II. According to these group, the body compositon, Aerobic capacity including VO2max, Anaerobic Capacity were measured. Results. In this study, According to ACE type, ID type were 8, II were 8 and DD type were 8 persons. According to ACE type, there were significant difference among type, especially, II, ID type more than DD. II type is more higher than any type and DD type is lower in the ratio of Blood Lactic recovery. DD type was more excellent than other type in Anaerobic power. According to Sasang Constitutions, there were 8 SoYang, 5 Taeum, 11 Soeum and then no TaeYang constitution. In Aerobic capacity, Taeum constitution had significantly high means and Anaerobic threshold. In the ratio of Blood lactic recovery, Taeum constitution was excellent and SoYang had poor recovery capacity. SoYang had more excellent than other constitution significantly in Anaerobic capacity. Comparing ACE type with Sasang constitution, Soyang constitution included 4 ID types, Taeum inclued 2 II types and 2 ID types then Soeum included 6 DD types. Compared of Aerobic and Anaerobic capacity between Sasang constitutions and ACE type, Soyang constitutions were similar to ID type, Taeum similar to II type and ID type and then Soeum were DD type. Conclusions. This study had made it clear that there were similar feature between ACE type and Sasang constitutions. Also it's possible to predict the Aerobic capacity that may be foreseen by ACE type with Sasang questionnaire method but not Anaerobic capacity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to address the difference menopausal symptoms according to sasang constitution and menopausal status among perimenopausal women. Methods: Data for this cross-sectional study was collected by administering questionnaires that elicited general information. The menopause rating scale (MRS) and Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II (QSCC II) was given to 284 perimenopausal women who met the eligibility criteria and agreed to participate in the study. Results: The study subjects were composed of 27.5% so-yangin, 24.6% so-eumin, 18.7% tae-eumin, and 29.6% undefined category. The total MRS and all subscales were significantly higher for postmenopausal women in comparison to premenopausal women. Especially, so-eumin and tae-eumin displayed significantly higher scores in urogenital symptoms. The MRS score in postmenopausal women who belonged to the group of tae-eumin and so-eumin was significantly higher than those for premenopausal women. However, so-yangin displayed higher scores in psychological and urogenital symptoms than tae-eumin for premenopausal women. So-eumin presented significantly higher scores in urogenital symptoms in comparison to the undefined category for postmenopausal women. Conclusion: These findings suggest that sasang constitution could be an important factor in understanding the woman's menopausal symptoms and identify the best treatment.
Objectives : Emotion is composed by several basic feelings. This basic feeling is called Chiljung in Oriental Medicine. This study examines the positive and negative affects related to Chiljung. Methods : A total of 199 students of Dongshin university oriental medicine were tested by Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution ClassificationII(QSCCII) and Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule(PANAS). This study is used 156 students' data, excluding 43 students' data. Of the enrolled 156 students, four groups were classified by QSCCII. The positive and negative properties of Chiljung were determined by PANAS. These data were analyzed by frequency, Pearson's chi-square test, Crosstabulation Analysis with SPSS windows 15.0. Results : 1. Joy(喜) and Anger(怒) has directly-opposed emotional properties. 2. Thought(思) difficult to tell the difference between positive and negative, but it is distinct from Anxiety(憂) and Sorrow(悲) 3. Anxiety(憂) and Sorrow(悲) are superior in negative emotional properties. 4. Fear(恐) and Fright(驚) are superior in negative emotional properties, and Fright(驚) is superior over Fear(恐) in positive emotional properties. Conclusions : This study may serve as the foundation in identifying the psychological traits of Chiljung.

This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the results of blood test and Sasang constitution. We performed blood test of 2,387 university students in Health examination. Sasang constitution was diagnosed by using the Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution Class II(QSCC II). All the data were analysed statistically by descriptive statistics, ANOVA and logistic regression analysis. The Taeeumin group showed significantly higher AST, ALT, GGT, LDH, CPK, creatinine, uric acid, total cholesterol, TG, and LDL levels than other groups, while having a lower HDL level. According to logistic regression analysis, Hb, RBC, uric acid, creatinine were effective common factors for classifying each constitution groups. In the results of this study, there were significant differences in the results of blood test between the three constitutions. But the blood test was insufficient as an objective indicator for discriminating Sasang constitutions.
The problem lies in 'Sasang Constitution Medicine' is a subjectiveness of diagnosis that the result of diagnosis varies according to the doctors. In order to supplement to this demerit, multiple approach has done to diagnose objectively. This study has focused on evaluating the effectiveness and accuracy of the questionnaire which considered as a basic data to identify constitution By analysing the tendency of the respondents who has defined constitution by clinical diagnosis and comparing of their answers, the result of their constitution analysis by our questionnaire were re-examined. The answer of each question to each constitution were tested how it is relevant to a scale of a constitution. As a result, we have found that there is limitation to find out constitution by the questionnaire we used, one we hope that suitable questionnaire will be developed for the research in the future
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to get higher discriminability of the QSCCII on Taeumin. Methods : I analysed each item response rates on QSCCII of those who had been tested and diagnosed as Taeumin, Soeumin, Soyangin respectively by frequency analysis and reviewed Taeum scale of the current QSCCII by reliabiliry analysis and discriminant analysis. Results : 1. From the 758 results of QSCCII of those who were examined by professors, I made a revised Taeum scale which is consists of 17 items including 14 existing Taeum scale items and 3 new items from the other scales. 2. Reliability of revised Taeum scale is 0.5983, higher than that of existing Taeum scale, 0.5922. This means that revised Taeum scale reflects Taeumin's character more reliably than the existing one. 3. Hit-ratio of revised QSCCII on Taeumin is 60.3%, 2% lower than that of existing QSCCII.
1. Objectives: The research papers published by researchers in other fields except Oriental medicine were analyzed to study the research trends and characteristic of Sasang Constitutional medicine. 2. Methods: Systematic searches were performed on KISS, RISS, KISTI and DBPIA and finally 123 papers were selected. The publication year, research field of the first author, title's characteristic, research topic and the classification method of Sasang Constitution were investigated. 3. Results and conclusions: 1) In the analysis of publication year, the number of studies on Sasang Constitution has increased dramatically since 2000. 2) In the analysis of the first author's research field, physical training, nursing, engineering and food and nutrition were the majority. 3) In the analysis of the research topic, the classification method of Sasang Constitution was the majority. 4) In the analysis of the classification method of Sasang Constitution, QSCC II was the most popular method accounted for 68% and interview by specialist of Sasang Constitutional medicine accounted for 42%.
