  • In the previous study, an improved QRD (QR Decomposition)-ILS(Iterative Least-Squares) method is proposed to estimate the structural parameters at the element level using response data alone without using any information of excitation measurements for the assessment of local damages and deterioration in complex and large structural systems. But for a complex and large structural system, where response measurement at every dynamic degree of freedom(DDOF) is not possible, the absence of some observation points of responses and its effect on the proposed SI method must be studied In the paper, a QRD-ILS technique that utilizes the known intact stiffness information estimated based on the visual inspection, field measurements and/or NDT tests is proposed to identify local damages of fracture critical members using measured responses only at limited DDOFs. A numerical example is used to illustrate the application of this technique. The results indicate that the proposed SI technique is very simple but efficient, since no input information are required with only limited observations.

  • In this paper, a low-complexity maximum-likelihood (ML) decoder based on QR decomposition, called real-valued LCMLDec decoder or RVLCMLDec for short, is proposed for the Vertical Bell Labs Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) architecture, a promising candidate for providing high data rates in future fixed wireless communication systems [1]. Computer simulations, in comparison with other detection techniques, show that the proposed decoder is capable of providingthe V-BLAST schemes with ML performance at low detection complexity.

  • In the QR Decomposition-based (QRD) decoding class, the system performance is sensitive to the error propagation. Thus, it is critical to correctly decode the previous layers. One approach to desensitize the error propagation is to propose the optimal decoding order of layers. In this work, we propose a new extended-list Sorted QRD-base (SQRD) decoding approach. In the proposed decoding scheme, the solution of the few first layers is extended as the list of promising possible solutions. By doing so, the diversity of the lowest layer is increased. As a result, the system performance is less sensitive to the error propagation than its counterparts. The proposed approach is verified by the computer simulation results.

  • This paper applies transmit antenna selection algorithms to spatial-temporal combining-based spatial multiplexing (SM) ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. The employed criterion is based on the largest minimum output signal-to-noise ratio of the multiplexed streams. It is shown via simulations that the bit error rate (BER) performance of the SM UWB systems based on the two-dimensional Rake receiver is significantly improved by antenna diversity through transmit antenna selection on a log-normal multipath fading channel. When the transmit antenna diversity through antenna selection is exploited in the SM UWB systems, the BER performance of the spatial-temporal combining-based zero-forcing (ZF) receiver is also compared with that of the ZF detector followed by the Rake receiver.

  • In this paper, we propose two novel high-rate high-performance space-time codes for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. When $n_{T}$ transmit antennas and $n_{R}$ = $n_{T}$ receive antennas are deployed, the two proposed codes respectively offer transmission rates of ( $n_{T}$ -I) and ( $n_{T}$ - 2) symbols per channel use and diversity orders of 3 and 5. As a consequence, our proposed codes allow the MIMO systems to employ a simple detection technique based on QR decomposition. Moreover, for equal or even higher spectral efficiencies, our proposed codes always provide much better bit error rate (BER) performances than V-BLAST architecture does when $n_{R}$ = $n_{T}$. Computer simulation is given to verify performances of our proposed codes.sed codes.des.

  • This work presents a low complexity maximum-likelihood decoder for signal detection in VBLAST-STBC system, which employs non-square O-STBC code rate 3/4. By stacking received symbols from different received symbolduration and applying QR decomposition resulting the special format of upper triangular matrix R, the proposed decoder is able to provide not only ML-like BER performance but also very low computational load. The low computational load and ML-like BER performance properties of the proposed decoder are verified by computer simulations.

  • In this paper, various ultra-wideband (UWB) spatial multiplxing (SM) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) receivers based on a prerake diversity combining scheme are discussed and their performance is analyzed. Several UWB MIMO detection approaches such as zero forcing (ZF), minimum mean square error (MMSE), ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC), sorted QR decomposition (SQRD), and maximum likelihood (ML) are considered in order to cope with inter-channel interference. The UWB SM systems based on transmitter-side multipath preprocessing and receiver-side MIMO detection can either boost the transmission data rate or offer significant diversity gain and improved BER performance. The error performance and complexity of linear and nonlinear detection algorithms are comparatively studied on a lognormal multipath fading channel.
