  • The aim of this study was to examine the content of bioactive component, ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in 7 commercial green teas. The teas were grown in different regions in Sourhtern Korea, and were picked during the middle of the season. The green tea extracts were each derivatized with 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxy-succinimidyl carbamate(AccQ${\cdot}$Fluor), and GABA was detected by a fluorescence detector at arf excitation of 250 nm and emission of 395 nm. The GABA contents varied depending on the regions where the green tea samples were produced. There was no significant difference in GABA contents between samples A and C, where it ranged from from 45.21${\pm}$0.99 (nmol/g) to 63.83${\pm}$0.61 (nmol/g): however, a significantly different amount of GABA was found in the green tea produced in B. The highest GABA content was 210.67${\pm}$0.85 (nmol/g), whereas the lowest content was 3.88${\pm}$0.71 (nmol/g). This variation in GABA contents was probably due to the regional differences, even within the same location, as well as the processing technology, which may retain or develop more GABA components in the final green tea.

  • Background: Patients experience significant differences in aspects of mortality, quality of life, and costs between during the year of receiving liver transplant (LT) and the subsequent years (post-LT). This study aimed to estimate the medical utilization and cost of LT for patients compared to post-LT patients by using a recent National Patient Sample (NPS) data provided by the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA). Methods: This study used a subset of the 2015 HIRA-NPS. Patient claims data that included Z944 (Korean Standard Classification of Diseases code for LT status) were selected. Within the selected data, LT patients were identified based on whether the national health insurance number code of Q80 (procedure code for LT surgery) was included, and they were compared to post-LT patients. Results: In the analysis, 330 patients were included. The average cost per patient was $90,066{\pm}36,959$ thousand KRW and $10,557{\pm}9,668$ thousand KRW for LT and post-LT patients, respectively. Especially, LT patients' costs for injection/procedure, surgery/treatment, and examination were higher than other costs, being $35,983{\pm}18,115$ thousand KRW, $28,246{\pm}9,408$ thousand KRW, and $12,131{\pm}6,604$ thousand KRW, respectively. For inpatients, the average number of hospitalized days was $63.5{\pm}66.0$ days for LT patients and $22.3{\pm}35.1$ days for post-LT patients. Conclusion: Compared to post-LT patients, LT patients had higher costs, especially for injection/procedure, surgery/treatment, and examination. Additionally, the LT group had longer hospitalization duration and higher costs for their hospital admission, whereas they did not show a significant difference in number of visits and medical costs for outpatient-care.

  • The one and two pair of oxide modules for high temperature thermoelectric power generation were fabricated with $Ca_{2.7}Bi_{0.3}Co_4O_9$(p-type) and $Ca_{0.96}Bi_{0.04}Mn_{0.96}Nb_{0.04}O_3$(n-type) on $Al_2O_3$ substrate. For the optimizing of the design process, contact resistance was derived from the results of the one pair modules, and then the resistance of two pair modules were calculated to use the derived data. Those values were compared with the measured values for the optimizing of this design process. The resistance of calculated and measured two pairs modules was 0.956 $\Omega$ and 1.110 Q $\Omega$ $T_h$=833 K, respectively, the difference of resistance was about 0.15 $\Omega$. From the result, proposed design process is effective for high temperature thermoelectric oxide modules fabrication.

  • In this paper, I examine the welfare effects of various revenue-neutral tax reforms in the case of two vertically-related oligopolies(downstream and upstream), where the upstream industry is polluting. I show analytically when and how government can improve welfare by initiating various tax reforms, regardless of either the feasibility of a lump sum transfer or the availability of a tax on pollution. The profit wedge that is the difference between the unit price and the unit cost and the marginal environmental damages(MED) becomes important to decidethe direction of a tax reform and is crucial to determine the direction of welfare-improving tax-subsidy schemes. I also show that a tax on pollution(Pigouvian tax) is superior to a tax on intermediate good even in the case of vertically-related oligopolies, because the former always brings in positive welfare effect from the upstream firms' input substitutability, which a tax on intermediate good cannot provide. Some policy implications for 'reducing environmentally-harmful subsidies' are also discussed.

  • To compare an electrical and optical characteristics of indium tin oxide (ITO) and carbon nanotube (CNT) electrode on flexible and reflective display, we fabricate two charged particle-type display panels under the same panel condition of which the width of ribs is 10 ${\mu}m$, the cell size is $300{\mu}m{\times}300{\mu}m$, the q/m value of the white particles is -4.3 ${\mu}C/g$ and that for the black is +1.3 ${\mu}C/g$, and the cell gap is 75 ${\mu}m$, 125 ${\mu}m$, and 175 ${\mu}m$. We use plastic substrates coated with ITO and CNT electrode. To evaluate optical property, we measure a response time of particles using a laser and a photodiode. Threshold and driving voltages of CNT electrode according to the sheet resistance of 300, 600, 1,000 (ohm/sq) are compared with ITO electrode of 10 (ohm/sq). A response time of the CNT panel is similar to that of ITO panel, but the threshold and driving voltages of CNT panel are higher than that of ITO panel, inducing a large bombardment of the particles and shortening the lifetime of the panel. High difference of a threshold and a driving voltage of CNT panel will induce an particle clumping, resulting degradation of the panel. A bending radius of the fabricated CNT panel is 18 ${\mu}m$.

  • A study was carried out to examine the effect of supplementing urea-sprayed maize stover with incremental levels of Tithonia diversifolia (Tithonia) forage on dry matter (DM) intake, digestibility and live weight changes. Fifteen crossbred bucks were used in a completely randomised design for a duration of 7 weeks. The treatments comprised of a control: the basal diet (maize stover sprayed with 1% urea) plus 100 g maize germ offered alone or supplemented with: 10 (T1), 20 (T2), 30 (T3) or 40% (T4) Tithonia on a dry matter basis. All animals were allowed ad libitum access to water and mineral lick. Supplementing maize stover with Tithonia resulted in increased total DM intake (p<0.05) from 376.7 (control), to 444.1 (T1), 533.1 (T2), 519.7 (T3) and 578.9 g/day (T4) but did not significantly (p>0.05) influence the intake of stover. Diet DM digestibility increased with supplementation with T3 recording the highest value of 66.5% which was 10.6% higher than the control. Supplementation significantly increased daily weight gains (p<0.05). T4 had the highest ADG (43.7 g/day), even though there was no difference between T4 and T3 (35.7 g/day). In goats, Tithonia should be included up to 30% of ration on a DM basis for optimum production. The higher level of inclusion (40%) may be used for higher total output in terms of meat and milk but with few animals.

  • Native chickens hold a significant share of the market in China. In response to the huge demand from the market, the productivity of Chinese native chickens needs to be improved. Cross breeding is an effective method to increase productivity, although it might affect meat quality. In this study, two pure lines (SD02 and SD03) of Erlang mountainous chickens were hybridized with a yellow feather and faster growing line (SD01). The effect of hybridization on carcass and meat quality (physiochemical and textural traits) was measured in the $F_1$ population at d 91 of age. The hybrids exhibited higher body weight and dressed weight, and amount of semi-eviscerated, eviscerated, breast muscle and abdominal fat (p<0.05). Abdominal fat yield also increased (p<0.05) compared to the offspring of the two pure-lines. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in meat quality traits except for the myofiber diameter and density and the shear force of the breast muscle. Overall, the offspring of cross-lines were similar to pure lines in meat color, pH value, inosinic acid, crude protein, crude fat, dry matter, moisture content and amino acid composition in the breast muscle. These results suggest that productivity can be improved via cross-breeding while maintaining meat quality of the Erlang mountainous chicken.

  • Energy use has been recognized worldwide as a main cause of global warming and it is at the center of climate change. In this study, problems and measures of zero-energy building construction are investigated and analyzed. Based on the results, evaluation criteria of the zero-energy building are suggested. Performance related factors(Q) representing the environmental grade were divided into three categories as outdoor, indoor environment and maintenance. Energy related factors(LR) representing the energy load were divided into an energy, materials & resources, water cycle management, land use and transportation. Detailed fifty three items are listed for the evaluation under the consideration of energy, water cycle management sections gave weight. Upon receiving the first in the environment friendly certification system, Seoul Central Post Office and Seoul Metropolitan Water Supply Center evaluated. The reason why this score difference is due to lack of use of new generation energy building construction is required expensive costs so need expansion of governmental support. This effort is successful zero energy building construction and copes with global warming and climate change.

  • BACKGROUND: Increased value added by rapeseed (Brassica napus) by-product and the development of a usable rapeseed functional tea. METHODS AND RESULTS: To develop a usable rapeseed functional tea, the total flavonoid content in the varieties Youngsan, Tammi, Tamra, Naehan, Hanra, Mokpo No. 68, and Mokpo No. 111 was investigated. Effect of three treatments, i.e., drying, leaching, and roasting, on flavonoid contents or flower was tested using multiple processing methods per treatment. Total flavonoid content decreased under the various drying methods, confirming that flavonoid content is heat-dependent. This finding was more pronounced for freezing and oven-drying (15.3 and 13.8 mg/g DW, respectively), with a 10% difference in the total flavonoid content between the two methods. Under leaching conditions, the flavonoid content decreased with increasing treatment time. Notably, roasting methods did not result in loss of flavonoid content. The total flavonoid content in the rapeseed varieties decreased in the following order: Youngsan, Tammi, Tamra, Naehan, Hanra, Mokpo No. 68, and Mokpo No. 111. CONCLUSION: The flavonoid content in rapeseed flower was higher in Youngsan than in the other varieties, under processing conditions such as freeze-drying, leaching at $90^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, and roasting.

  • In this paper, an optimum size for the inset cut feed of microstrip antennas has been determined by using the finite-difference time domain method. At first, the return losses of microstrip antennas having various shapes and types of the inset cut feeds have been computed numerically for a given frequency and a substrate. Then an optimum size of the inset cut feed has been determined by iterative computation procedure for a given condition. It was found that the optimum width of the inset cut feed is about 0.42 times of the width of 50Ω feed line and the optimum length of the inset cut feed is about 0.36 times of the length of the antenna patch. These results are proved by the experimental data obtained from the measurements of many fabricated antennas. It was also found that the optimum size of the inset cut feed is independent on the frequency, the height and the dielectric constant of the antennal substrate.
