A Study on Hydrologic and Geographic-Characteristics and Design-Width-Determination of Small Rivers in Korea (우리나라 소하천의 수문지형학적 특성 및 계획하폭 결정에 관한 연구)

  • To define a small river in Korea. hydrologic- and geographic-characteristics. such as watershed area, channel slope, channel length and time of concentration are investigated and their limits are presented. The current equations of design-width-determination of the small rivers are examined and two equations for the design-width-determination of the small rivers have been suggested in this paper. A small river in Korea can be defined that watershed area is less than $10km^2$, channel length less than 6 km, channel slope over 0.02. time of concentration less than 30 minutes. As Band Q are defined as a design width and a design flood, respectively, the suggested equation to determine the design width is $B=1.235Q^{064}$ for less than $300m^3/sec$ of design flood. and when B and A are defined as a design width and a watershed area, respectively. the recommended equation is $B=8.794A^{0.56}$ for less than $10km^2$ of watershed area.

FUV observation of the comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) with FIMS

  • We present the results of far-ultraviolet (FUV) observations of comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) obtained with Far-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (FIMS) on board the Korean microsatellite STSAT-1, which operated at an altitude of 700 km in a sun-synchronous orbit. FIMS is a dual-channel imaging spectrograph (S channel 900-1150 ${\AA}$, L channel 1350-1750 ${\AA}$, ${\lambda}/{\Delta}{\lambda}$ ~ 550) with large image fields of view (S: $4^{\circ}.0{\times}4^{\prime}.6$, L: $7^{\circ}.5{\times}4^{\prime}.3$, angular resolution 5'-10') optimized for the observation of diffuse emission of astrophysical radiation. Comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) was observed with a scanning survey mode when it was located around the perihelion between 8 and 15 May 2004. Several important emission lines were detected including S I (1425, 1474 ${\AA}$), C I (1561, 1657 ${\AA}$) and several emission lines of CO $A^1{\Pi}-X^1{\Sigma}^+$ system in the L channel. Production rates of the notable molecules, such as C I, S I and CO, were estimated from the photon fluxes of these spectral lines and compared with previous observations. We compare the flux and the production rates in the radius of $3{\times}10^5$ km with $20{\times}10^5$ km from the central coma. We obtained L-channel image which have map size $5^{\circ}{\times}5^{\circ}$ The image was constructed for the wavelength band of L-channel (1350 - 1710 ${\AA}$. We also present the radial profiles of S I, C I, CO obtained from the spectral images of the central coma. The radial profiles of $2{\times}10^6$ km region are compared with the Haser model.

  • This Technical Memo(TM) was written for the purpose of determining the type of UHF-band power divider which is applicable to KSLV-1. For this, some different kinds of power divider are compared with there types and characteristics. And then, we select three types of power divider(which is Wilkinson power divider, Quadrature hybrid divider and Ring hybrid divider) and perform Schematic and Momentum simulation for finding the optimized characteristics. With this results, in order to demonstrate the selected power divider, we manufactured UHF-band power dividers using FR-4 epoxy plate. By the measured results, we obtain the similar results compare with simulation and fabrication. And Quadrature hybrid power divider is suitable to application to KSLV-1.

Planning Large Program of Stellar Maser Study with KaVA

  • We present our activities linking to planning of possible forms of large program to study on circumstellar H2O and SiO maser sources with KaVA. A great advantage of KaVA for the stellar maser observations is the combination of the unique capability of the multi-frequency phase referencing technique of KVN and the dual-beam astrometry of VERA with the KaVA's relative dense antenna configuration. We have demonstrated this advantage through the test observations conducted by the KaVA Evolved Stars Sub-working Group since 2012 March. Snapshot KaVA imaging is confirmed to be possible in integration time of 0.5 hour at the 22 GHz band and 1.0 hour at the 43 GHz band in typical cases. This implies that large snapshot imaging surveys towards many H2O and SiO stellar masers are possible within a reasonable machine time (e.g., scans on ~100 maser sources within 200 hours). This possibility enables us to select the maser sources, which are suitable for future long-term (10 years) intensive (biweekly-monthly) monitoring observations, from 1000 potential target candidates selected from dual-frequency band (K/Q-bands) KVN single-dish observations. The output of the survey programs will be used for statistical analysis of the structures of individual stellar maser clumps and the spatio-kinematical structures of circumstellar envelopes with accelerating outflows. The combination of astrometry in milliarcsecond(mas) level and the multi-phase referencing technique yields not only trigonometric parallax distances to the masers but also precise position reference for registration of different maser lines. The accuracy of the map registration affects interpretation of the excitation mechanism of the SiO maser lines and the origin of the variety of the maser actions, which are expected to reflect periodic behaviors of the circumstellar envelope with stellar pulsation. Currently we are checking the technical feasibility of KaVA operations for this combination. After this feasibility test, the long-term monitoring campaign program will run as one of KaVA's legacy projects.

  • In order to satisfy user's requirements of needs for various services and to efficiently use of frequency, a communication system using one platform can support many communication services. Tunable filters must be used in the front end of broadband communication systems which provide and support various communication methods. In this paper we design and implement a filter bank to verify the feasibility of cavity tunable filter with the operation frequency of 800 MHz ~ 1600 MHz. The filter bank is composed of five bandpass filters and each bandpass filter has the same operation frequency band of the tunable filter. The implemented filter bank has the maximum insertion loss of 0.326 dB, the bandwidth of 37 MHz ~ 84 MHz, and the attenuation of minimum 19.974dB and mximum 37.812dB at the band edge ${\pm}60MHz$ over the operating frequency band.

A Study on the Out-of-Band Rejection Improvement of TFBAR Ladder Filter using On-Wafer Inductors (기판상의 인덕터를 이용한 박막 공진 여파기의 대역 외 저지특성 개선 연구)

  • In this paper, two types of thin nim bulk acoustic resonator(TFBAR) ladder filters are desisted and fabricated to analyze the effects of on-wafer inductor integration. To suppress the overmode phenomenon a 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick air-gap is fabricated under the TFBAR and aluminum nitride is used for piezoelectric material, while platinum is employed for the top and bottom electrodes. The Tx filter in a duplexer, which usually has a steeper skirt characteristics o the right side of the passband, is designed with four serial and two shunt resonators, namely, a 4/2 stage. Similarly, the Rx filter is devised with a 3/4 stage to create a mirrored image of the Tx filter passband characteristics. Fabricated on-wafer spiral inductors with underpass reveals the Q factor of 5~9 at 2 ㎓. Inductor integrated filters have approximately 10 to 12 ㏈ out-of-band rejection improvement, when compared to the original filters.

Design and Manufacture of Traveling-wave Electro-optic Modulator for X-band LFM Signal Generation (X-대역 LFM 신호생성을 위한 진행파형 전광변조기의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a photonic-based microwave system technology is described, and a traveling-wave electro-optic modulator is designed and manufactured as a key component. The fabricated modulator is composed of a metal diffusion waveguide for optical transmission and a planar waveguide electrode on lithium niobate substrate for microwave transmission. The electro-optic response bandwidth of I and Q channels in a fabricated dual parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator were measured for 27.67 and 28.11 GHz, respectively. Photonic four times up-converted X-band frequency and linear frequency modulated signal were confirmed using the fabricated electro-optic modulator by S-band input signal. The confirmed broadband signal can be applied to a microwave system for surveillance and high-resolution ISAR imaging.

Development and Validation of a Machine Learning-based Differential Diagnosis Model for Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment using Resting-State Quantitative EEG (안정 상태에서의 정량 뇌파를 이용한 기계학습 기반의 경도인지장애 환자의 감별 진단 모델 개발 및 검증)

  • Early detection of mild cognitive impairment can help prevent the progression of dementia. The purpose of this study was to design and validate a machine learning model that automatically differential diagnosed patients with mild cognitive impairment and identified cognitive decline characteristics compared to a control group with normal cognition using resting-state quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) with eyes closed. In the first step, a rectified signal was obtained through a preprocessing process that receives a quantitative EEG signal as an input and removes noise through a filter and independent component analysis (ICA). Frequency analysis and non-linear features were extracted from the rectified signal, and the 3067 extracted features were used as input of a linear support vector machine (SVM), a representative algorithm among machine learning algorithms, and classified into mild cognitive impairment patients and normal cognitive adults. As a result of classification analysis of 58 normal cognitive group and 80 patients in mild cognitive impairment, the accuracy of SVM was 86.2%. In patients with mild cognitive impairment, alpha band power was decreased in the frontal lobe, and high beta band power was increased in the frontal lobe compared to the normal cognitive group. Also, the gamma band power of the occipital-parietal lobe was decreased in mild cognitive impairment. These results represented that quantitative EEG can be used as a meaningful biomarker to discriminate cognitive decline.

Study on stability test of in process sample of recombinant Protein A (재조합 단백질 A 제조공정시료의 안정성실험에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to investigate the issues on how to secure stability during the purification process for the production of recombinant protein A. The final recombinant protein A is produced by passing through the cation exchange column (SP) and the anion-exchange column (Q) during the production process, for which the samples produced by the step-by-step processes can be exposed to trouble in securing stable storage in case the next process cannot be taken within the proper time period. Accordingly, this study aims to evaluate the proper storage conditions and length of time when storing samples produced in the production process. That is, in this study, how to store fair samples, how long the storage period should be set up, and how to evaluate the security of its quality depending on time are dealt with. The items to be experimented with were enodotoxin, SDS-PAGE, HPLC purity and concentration. Experimental results showed that after passing the cation exchange column, when stored at $4^{\circ}C$ or room temperature, SDS-PAGE showed a major band, endotoxin is 5.0 Eu/mg or less, and concentration is on average of 8.21 to 8.24 mg/mL and RSD% 0.10~0.62%. In addition, HLPC purity showed somewhat stable results; at the HPLC purity 214 nm, the average is 99.24% to 99.37% and RSD% is 0.22~0.29%, while the average is 89.72% to 89.80% and RSD% 0.62~1.26% at 280 nm. On the contrary, after passing the anion exchange column, when stored at $4^{\circ}C$ or room temperature, SDS-PAGE revealed the major band, endotoxin is 0.5 Eu/mg or less, and concentration is on average of 5.59 mg/mL and RSD% 0.03~0.10%. when it comes to HLPC purity, the result showed that at the HPLC purity 214 nm, the average is 99.74% and RSD% is 0.10~0.11%, while the average is 96.16% to 96.85% and RSD% 0.72~1.13%. In conclusion, the stability of fair samples of recombinant protein A during the manufacturing process could be obtained without substance decomposition for 7~8 days at $4^{\circ}C$ or 20~21 days at room temperature.

Self-Aggregation of Synthetic Magnesium Bacteriochlorins as a Photosynthetic Antenna Model

  • We prepared 3-(1-hydroxyethyl)-bacteriopyrochlorophy11-a (3) possessing magnesium atom and phytyl ester from modification of natural bacteriochlorophyll(BChl)-a. A dichloromethane solution of (3$^1$R) and (3$^1$S)-3 was diluted with 100~1000 fold volume of cyclohexane to give new species absorbing near-infrared lights. The resulting Q, maximum of (3$^1$R)-3 was 860 nm and red-shifted by 2150 $cm^{-1}$ / from the monomeric. In the nonpolar organic solvent, epimeric (3$^1$S)-3 showed a 1ess red-shifted peak at 798 nm as well as a residual monomeric band. Such visible spectra indicated that 3 diastereose1ectively aggregated in cyclohexane to afford oligomers possessing a simi1ar supramolecular structure with chlorosomal aggregates of natural BChl-d, 7,8-dehydro-form of 3.
