Behavioral Problems in Patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome

  • Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a neurodevelopmental genomic imprinting disorder involving a lack of gene expression from the paternal chromosome 15q11-q13 region. This is typically due to paternal 15q11-q13 deletions (in approximately 60% of cases), maternal uniparental disomy 15, or when both 15s are from the mother (about 35% of cases). An imprinting center controls the expression of imprinted genes in the chromosome 15q11-q13 region. PWS is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by mental retardation and distinct physical, behavioral, and psychiatric features. Characteristic behavioral disturbances in PWS include excessive interest in food, skin picking, difficulty with a change in routine, temper tantrums, obsessive and compulsive behaviors, and mood fluctuations. Individuals with PWS typically have intellectual disabilities (borderline to mild/moderate mental retardation) and exhibit a higher overall level of behavior disturbances compared to individuals with similar intellectual disabilities. This condition severely limits social adaptations and quality of life. Different factors have been linked to the intensity and form of these behavioral disturbances, but there is no consensus regarding the cause. Consequently, there is still controversy surrounding management strategies and there is a need for new data. PWS is a multisystem disorder. Family members, caregivers, physicians, dieticians, and speech-language pathologists all play an important role in the management and treatment of symptoms in an individual with PWS. Here we analyze behavioral problems in children and adults with PWS by age and review appropriate management and treatment strategies for these symptoms.

A Study on Types of Coping in School-Age Children : A Q-methodological Approach (학령기 아동의 대응 유형에 관한 연구 : Q방법론적 접근)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability of Q-sorting and to develope a typology of coping to stress in school-age children through the use of Q-methodology. For the study, Q-statements are selected from the literature and interviews of 30 Children, A total number 153 statement were collected and 31 Q-samples were finally selected. AP-sample of 76 was selected the elementary school children. Each of respondents were given 31 coping strategies questionnaire and set of 31 statements with cartoon on each of cards and sorted them according to the 9-point scale. The result of the C-sorting by each subject were coded and analyzed using the QUANAL PC and SPSS PC+ program. As a result of the analysis, There were significant relationship between score each item of question naire and score of sorted statement. Therefore, school-age children was able to Q-sorting(forced normal distribution). Also, the four types of coping were named as follows : Type I (n=35) : To search for the dynamic behaviors Type II (n=12) : To search for the intellectual behaviors Type III (n=22) : To search for emotional-spiritual behaviors Type IV (n=7) : To search for the self-abuse behaviors Throught the study, the implication for teachers, parents and school nurses is that there is needed to guide and to support adaptive coping behaviors. Also, it is recommended that the application of Q-methodology for study of children's subjective concepts like stress and coping.

Electrical and optical characeristics of ZnS:Mn thin-film electroluminescent(TFEL) devices grown by atomic layer epitaxy (Atomic layer epitaxy(ALE) 방법으로 제작된 ZnS:Mn 박막전계발광소자의 전기, 광학적 특성)

  • The ZnS:Mn thin film electroluminescent(TFEL) devices fabricated by ALE system were investigated. Yellow-orange light emission was observed when the applied voltage exceeded 134 V and luminance increased sharply as the applied voltage increased. Luminance of 568 Cd/c $m^{2}$ was obtained under 1 KHz sinusoidal voltage wave application at the peak applied voltage of 230 V. The peak wavelength of the emissionwas 577 nm. The C-V, Q-V, $Q_{t}$ - $F_{p}$ , L- $Q_{cond}$, and V- $Q_{pol}$ have been measured under theapplication of the trapezoidal wave with its pulse width varying 0 to 75 .mu.sec. The phoshor and the insulator capacitance of the TFEL device under test were 24.3 nF/c $m^{2}$ and 9 nF/c $m^{2}$, respectively. It was observed that the threshold voltage changed from 137V to 100V as the pulse width varied from 0 to 75 .mu.sec. The L- $Q_{cond}$ characteristics showed that the light emission increased in proportion to the $Q_{cond}$. The luminance increased from 386 Cd/ $m^{2}$ to 607 Cd/ $m^{2}$ when the $Q^{+}$$_{cond}$ increased from 1.3 .mu.C/c $m^{2}$ to 2.3 .mu.C/c $m^{2}$. The V- $Q_{pol}$ characteristics showed that the V was inversely proportional to $Q_{pol}$./. th/ was inversely proportional to $Q_{pol}$./. pol/./.

Decay Rate and Nutrient Dynamics during Litter Decomposition of Quercus acutissima and Quercus mysinaefolia (상수리나무와 가시나무 낙엽의 분해율 및 분해과정에 따른 영양염류 함량 변화)

  • Decay rate and nutrient dynamics during leaf litter decomposition of deciduous Quercus acutissima and evergreen Quercus mysinaefolia were studied for 24 months from December 2008 to December 2010 in Gongju, Chungnam Province, Korea. Percent remaining weight of Q. acutissima and Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter after 24 months elapsed was $46.3{\pm}5.4%$ and $37.8{\pm}2.5%$, respectively. Decomposition of evergreen Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter was significantly faster than that of deciduous Quercus acutissima leaf litter. Decay constant(k) of Q. acutissima and Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter after 24 months elapsed was 0.38 and 0.49, respectively. Initial C/N and C/P ratio of Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter was significantly lower than those of Q. acutissima leaf litter. Initial C/N and C/P ratio of Q. acutissima leaf litter was 46.8 and 270.9, respectively. After 24 months elapsed, C/N and C/P ratio of decomposing Q. acutissima leaf litter decreased to 22.5 and 104.2, respectively. Initial C/N and C/P ratio of Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter was 22.4 and 41.7, respectively. After 24 months elapsed, C/N and C/P ratio of decomposing Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter decreased to 16.7 and 89.7, respectively. Initial concentration of N, P, K, Ca and Mg in leaf litter was 8.31, 0.44, 4.18, 9.38, 1.37 mg/g in Q. acutissima, and 19.88, 2.73, 7.06, 8.24, 2.61 mg/g in Q. mysinaefolia, respectively. Initial concentration of N and P in Q. mysinaefolia leaf litter was significantly higher than those in Q. acutissima. After 24 month elapsed, remaining N, P, K, Ca and Mg were 100.91, 114.75, 32.99, 50.63, 15.51% in Q. acutissima, and 43.22, 11.35, 12.98, 82.22, 44.23% in Q. mysinaefolia, respectively. N and P in decomposing leaf litter was immobilized in Q. acutissima, and mineralized in Q. mysinaefolia.

  • In bitrate control of MPEG-2 TM5, $Q_{j}$, N-act, and mquant, of present macroblock are predicted from those of previous macroblock. It results in poor image quality because of abrups change of them. We proposed a method predicting $Q_{j}$, N-act, and mquant, of present macroblock by averaging those parameters of adjacent previous macroblocks. As a results, it shows improved PSNR compared to bitrate control of MPEG-2 TM5.TM5.

  • 본 논문에서는 OpenAI Gym 환경에서 제공하는 Acrobot-v1에 대해 DQN(Deep Q-Networks) 강화학습으로 학습시키고, 이 때 적용되는 활성화함수의 성능을 비교분석하였다. DQN 강화학습에 적용한 활성화함수는 ReLU, ReakyReLU, ELU, SELU 그리고 softplus 함수이다. 실험 결과 평균적으로 Leaky_ReLU 활성화함수를 적용했을 때의 보상 값이 높았고, 최대 보상 값은 SELU 활성화 함수를 적용할 때로 나타났다.

Seasonal Variations of Soil CO2 Efflux Rates and Soil Environmental Factors in Pinus densiflora and Quercus variabilis Stands (소나무와 굴참나무 임분의 토양 환경요인과 토양 이산화탄소 방출의 계절적 변화)

  • This study was carried out to examine the relationships between seasonal variations of soil $CO_2$ efflux rates and soil environmental factors in matured Pinus densiflora and Quercus variabilis stands in the Wola national experimental forests, southern Korea. Soil $CO_2$ efflux rates were measured monthly from March 2015 to February 2016. Mean soil $CO_2$ efflux rates during the study period were significantly higher in the Q. variabilis ($mean{\pm}standard$ error; $2.27{\pm}0.22{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$) than in the P. densiflora ($1.63{\pm}0.12{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$) stands. Mean soil water content and pH were also significantly higher in the Q. variabilis ($26.96{\pm}0.93%$, pH 5.19) than in the P. densiflora ($21.32{\pm}0.89%$, pH 4.87) stands, while soil temperature was not significantly different between the P. densiflora ($13.92{\pm}0.67^{\circ}C$) and in the Q. variabilis ($13.52{\pm}0.70^{\circ}C$) stands. $Q_{10}$ values were higher in the Q. variabilis (3.35) than in the P. densiflora (2.72) stands. The results indicate that soil $CO_2$ efflux rates in Q. variabilis stand could be more sensitive by the change of soil temperature compared with P. densiflora stand under a similar site environmental condition.

SIMULATION OF COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND POLARIZATION FIELDS FOR AMiBA EXPERIMENT

  • We have made a topological study of cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization maps by simulating the AMiBA experiment results. A ACDM CMB sky is adopted to make mock interferometric observations designed for the AMiBA experiment. CMB polarization fields are reconstructed from the AMiBA mock visibility data using the maximum entropy method. We have also considered effects of Galactic foregrounds on the CMB polarization fields. The genus statistic is calculated from the simulated Q and U polarization maps, where Q and U are Stokes parameters. Our study shows that the Galactic foreground emission, even at low Galactic latitude, is expected to have small effects on the CMB polarization field. Increasing survey area and integration time is essential to detect non-Gaussian signals of cosmological origin through genus measurement.
