  • In this study, the hydraulic model test was performed for the 3 vertical inlets of the Shinwol rainwater storage & drainage system that Seoul City plans to install, and the control discharge value actually measured was analyzed comparing to the value obtained using the theoretical control discharge equation suggested by Yu and Lee (2009). In the results, it was 66~69% compared to the value obtained from theoretical equation showing that the control discharge value according to the theoretical equation is calculated excessively. The sensitivity analysis by design factor was performed using 3 models conducted in this study and 15 hydraulic experiment models conducted in existing research Yu and Lee (2009). The sensitivity analysis of control discharge equation was performed by dividing $Q_{cm}/Q_{cp}$ into 3 ranges. The suggested equation considered only the influence on the tangential intake structure design factor B, z, ${\beta}$, e/B, so ${\theta}$, L considered complex influence suggested equation needed to be more improved.

  • Background : The paraoxonase enzyme plays a significant role in the detoxification of various organophosphorous compounds in mammals, and paraoxonase (PON) 1 is one of the endogenous free-radical scavenging systems in the human body. In this study, we investigated the interaction between cigarette smoking and the genetic polymorphism of PON1 with lung cancer in Korean males. Methods : Three hundred thirty five patients with lung cancer and an equal number of age-matched controls were enrolled in this study. Every subject was asked to complete a questionnaire concerning their smoking habits and alcohol drinking habits. A 5' exonuclease assay (TaqMan) was used to genotype the PON1 Q192R polymorphism. The effects of smoking habits and drinking habits, the PON1 Q192R polymorphism and their interactions were statistically analyzed. Results : Cigarette smoking and the Q/Q genotype of PON1 were significant risk factors for lung cancer. Individuals carrying the Q/Q genotype of PON1 were at a higher risk for lung cancer as compared with those individuals carrying the Q/R or R/R genotype (odds ratio, 2.84; 95% confidence interval, 1.69 - 4.79). When the groups were further stratified by the smoking status, the Q/Q PON1 was associated with lung cancer among the current or ex-smokers (odds ratio, 2.56; 95% confidence interval, 1.52 - 4.31). Current smokers or ex-smokers who had the Q/Q genotype showed an elevated risk for lung cancer (odds ratio: 15.50, 95% confidence interval: 6.76 - 35.54) as compared with the group of subjects who never smoked, and had the Q/R or R/R genotype. The odds ratios (95% confidence interval) of smokers with the PON1 Q/Q type compared to the nonsmokers with the PON1 Q/R or R/R type were 53.77 (6.55 - 441.14) for squamous cell carcinoma, 6.25 (1.38 - 28.32) for adenocarcinoma, and 59.94 (4.66 - 770.39) for small cell carcinoma, and these results were statistically significant. Conclusion : These results suggest that cigarette smoking and the PON1 Q/Q genotype are risk factors for lung cancer. The combination of cigarette smoking and the PON1 Q/Q genotype significantly increased the lung cancer risk irrespective of the histologic type of cancer.

  • This paper proposes an asymmetric split-loop resonator with an outer square loop (ASLR-OSL), which can actively control terahertz wave transmission properties while maintaining a high-Q-factor of the asymmetric split-loop resonator (ASLR). An added outer square loop is designed to play the roles of both a metamaterial and a micro-heater, which can control the temperature through a directly applied bias voltage. A vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) thin film, which exhibits an insulator-metal phase transition with temperature change, is used to control the transmission properties. The proposed ASLR-OSL shows transmission properties similar to those of the ASLR, and they can be successfully controlled by directly applying bias voltage to the outer square loop. Based on these results, an electrically controllable terahertz high-Q metamaterial could be achieved simply by adding a square loop to the outside of a well-known high-Q metamaterial.

  • The study in detection of perioperative myocardial infarction by serial ECGs and the analysis of risk factors involved was carried out from January 1994 to July 1996 on 87 consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. There were significant differences in the mean CK-MB peaks and frequencies of flipping in LDH1/LDH2 among the 3 groups(group I: new Q-wave, group II: S-T change, group III: no ECG change). The ECG was considered positive for postoperative myocardial infarction if the new Q-waves appeared in the postoperative period or if S-T segment changes persisted for more than 48 hours. The hospital mortality rate was 3.3% and the perioperative infarction rate was 17.2%. The following risk factors of the perioperative MI were found: endarterectomy, decreased ejection fraction($\leq$40%) and prolonged aortic cross clamping time. Left main disease, triple vessel disease, 3 or more graft, unstable angina and hypertension did not correlate with myocardial infarction. This study suggests that serial ECGs could be used as means of detecting the perioperative myocardial infarction after coronary artery bypass grafting.

  • In the present paper we suggested a parallel branch structure of aluminum spiral inductor for the use of RF integrated circuit at 1∼3 GHz. The inductor was implemented on p-type silicon wafer (5∼15Ω-cm) under the standard CMOS process and it showed a enhanced qualify(Q) factor by more than 10 % with no degradation of inductance. The effect of the structure modification on the Q factor and the inductance was scrutinized comparing with conventional spital inductors

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the expression patterns of key genes involved in lipid metabolism in response to dietary Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in hens. A total of 36 forty week-old Lohmann Brown were randomly allocated into 3 groups consisting of 4 replicates of 3 birds. Laying hens were subjected to one of following treatments: Control (BD, basal diet), T1 (BD+ CoQ10 100 mg/kg diet) and T2 (BD+ micellar of CoQ10 100 mg/kg diet). Birds were fed ad libitum a basal diet or the basal diet supplemented with CoQ10 for 5 weeks. Total RNA was extracted from the liver for quantitative RT-PCR. The mRNA levels of HMG-CoA reductase(HMGCR) and sterol regulatory element-binding proteins(SREBP)2 were decreased more than 30~50% in the liver of birds fed a basal diet supplemented with CoQ10 (p<0.05). These findings suggest that dietary CoQ10 can reduce cholesterol levels by the suppression of the hepatic HMGCR and SREBP2 genes. The gene expressions of liver X receptor (LXR) and SREBP1 were down regulated due to the addition of CoQ10 to the feed (p<0.05). The homeostasis of cholesterol can be regulated by LXR and SREBP1 in cholesterol-low-conditions. The supplement of CoQ10 caused a decreased expression of lipid metabolism-related genes including $PPAR{\gamma}$, XBP1, FASN, and GLUTs in the liver of birds (p<0.05). These data suggest that CoQ10 might be used as a dietary supplement to reduce cholesterol levels and to regulate lipid homeostasis in laying hens.

  • The quality factors for cylindrical ionization chambers for kV X-rays were determined by Monte Carlo calculation and measurement. In this study, the X-rays of 60-300 kV beam (lSO-4037) installed in KFDA and specified in energy spectra and beam qualities, and the chambers of PTW N23333 and N30001 were investigated. In calculations, the $R_{\mu}\;and\;R_{Q,Q_{0}}$ in IAEA dosimetry protocols were determined from the air kerma and the cavity dose obtained by theoretical and Monte Carlo calculations. It is shown that the N30001 chamber has a flat response of $\pm1.7\%$ in $110\~300kV$ region, while the response range of two chambers were shown to $\pm3\~4\%$ in $80\~250kV$ region. From this work we have discussed dosimetry protocol for the kV X-rays and we have found that the estimation of energy dependency is more important to apply dosimetry protocol for kV X-rays.

  • I think it would be better to rewrite the Korean abstract. To analyze the personal characteristics of the participants and identify their perception of violence using the Q methodology, the scores of 20 parenting parents on 25 Q cards were statistically analyzed using forced normal distribution. There are three factors and from the most agreeable to the most disagreeable statements, they have shown their perception of violence. It was helpful in identifying parents' subjective perceptions and types of child abuse, and it suggested the need to define child abuse so that parents can have a correct perception of child abuse, rather than an abstract perception. In this perspective, the results of this study provide preliminary data for improving the recognition of parenting parents on child abuse.

  • We investigated the early growth characteristics of Quercus rubra planted in six regions (Hwaseong, Yangpyeong, Pyeongchang, Samcheok, Chungju, and Gimje) in South Korea in relation to soil physicochemical properties and meteorological factors. Q. rubra (1-0) were planted at a density of 3,000 trees ha-1. The average height, root collar diameter (RCD), and volume of 8-year-old Q. rubra planted in 2014 were 3.52 m, 3.84 cm, and 0.0023 m3, respectively. The growth parameters of Q. rubra were the highest and lowest in Hwaseong and Pyeongchang, respectively. Correlation analysis among the soil physicochemical properties, meteorological factors, and plantation growth characteristics found that pH was the only soil factor negatively correlated with RCD, and the other soil factors were not significantly correlated with the growth characteristics. However, growth characteristics were positively correlated to average temperature from March to October and daily maximum temperature; and they were negatively correlated to altitude, topology, and the number of rainy days from March to October. In particular, the trees planted in Hwaseong area showed the best early growth characteristics because this area had the highest daily maximum temperature, the x average temperature from March to October, the low altitude, and it is located close to the foot of a mountain. In Pyeongchang, the early growth characteristics were negatively affected by winter cold damage because of the high altitude, low daily minimum temperature, and damage by wild animals. In Hwaseong, meteorological factors such as temperature and altitude were more highly correlated to growth characteristics of Q. rubra than the physicochemical soil properties. These results will provide useful information for determining suitable sites for Q. rubra plantations and for predicting early growth characteristics in response to environmental factors.
