  • Over the recent years, there has been a sudden surge in interest over character-related products among mobile game developers in South Korea as a business strategy to extend mobile game lifespans. However, even with the majority of mobile game players aging around 18~35 and higher, there has been a lack of study regarding design preferences and consumption tendencies of adult players-or kidults-when it comes to character-related products. In this study, three distinctive decision patterns among kidults were identified using an online Q-Sort method: (a) Character Oriented, (b) Item Oriented, and (c) Character-item Oriented. The similarities and differences of these three types are further analyzed to provide insight into important factors that play decisive roles in purchasing decisions made by kidults. The results from this study can aid mobile game developers in establishing reference points for future character business directions.

  • The seismic design of conventional frame structures is meant to enhance plastic deformations at beam ends and prevent yielding in columns. To this end, columns are made stronger than beams. Yet yielding in columns cannot be avoided with the column-to-beam strength ratios (about 1.3) prescribed by seismic codes. Preventing plastic deformations in columns calls for ratios close to 4, which is not feasible for economic reasons. Furthermore, material properties and the rearrangement of geometric shapes inevitably make the distribution of damage among stories uneven. Damage in the i-th story can be characterized as the accumulated plastic strain energy (Wpi) normalized by the product of the story shear force (Qyi) and drift (δyi) at yielding. Past studies showed that the distribution of the plastic strain energy dissipation demand, Wpi/ΣWpj, can be evaluated from the deviation of Qyi with respect to an "optimum value" that would make the ratio Wpi/(Qyiδyi) -i.e. the damage- equal in all stories. This paper investigates how the soil type and ductility demand affect the optimum lateral strength distribution. New optimum lateral strength distributions are put forth and compared with others proposed in the literature.

  • Hydrolysis of whey-derived proteins using lactic acid bacteria (LAB) utilizes the mass culture method and fermentation of LAB to produce effective bioactive peptides. Whey protein has the biological potential of its precursors, but the active fragments may not be released depending on the hydrolysis method. As an alternative to these problems, the nutritional and bioactive functionality of the hydrolysis method have been reported to be improved using LAB for whey protein. Peptide fractions were obtained using a sample fast protein liquid chromatography device. Antioxidant activity was verified for each of the five fractions obtained. In vitro cell experiments showed no cytotoxicity and inhibited nitric oxide production. Cytokine (IL [interleukin]-1α, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-α) production was significantly lower than that of lipopolysaccharides (+). As a result of checking the amino acid content ratio of the fractions selected through the AccQ-Tag system, 17 types of amino acids were identified, and the content of isoleucine, an essential amino acid, was the highest. These properties show their applicability for the production of functional products utilizing dietary supplements and milk. It can be presented as an efficient method in terms of product functionality in the production of uniform-quality whey-derived peptides.

  • A spatio-temporal join is an expensive operation that is commonly used in spatio-temporal database systems. In order to generate an efficient query plan for the queries involving spatio-temporal join operations, it is crucial to estimate accurate selectivity for the join operations. Given two dataset $S_1,\;S_2$ of discrete data and a timestamp $t_q$, a spatio-temporal join retrieves all pairs of objects that are intersected each other at $t_q$. The selectivity of the join operation equals the number of retrieved pairs divided by the cardinality of the Cartesian product $S_1{\times}S_2$. In this paper, we propose aspatio-temporal histogram to estimate selectivity of spatio-temporal join by extending existing geometric histogram. By using a wide spectrum of both uniform dataset and skewed dataset, it is shown that our proposed method, called Spatio-Temporal Histogram, can accurately estimate the selectivity of spatio-temporal join. Our contributions can be summarized as follows: First, the selectivity estimation of spatio-temporal join for discrete data has been first attempted. Second, we propose an efficient maintenance method that reconstructs histograms using compression of spatial statistical information during the lifespan of discrete data.

  • We dene new link invariants which are called the quasitoric braid index and the cyclic length of a link and show that the quasitoric braid index of link with k components is the product of k and the cycle length of link. Also, we give bounds of Gordian distance between the (p,q)-torus knot and the closure of a braid of two specific quasitoric braids which are called an alternating quasitoric braid and a blockwise alternating quasitoric braid. We give a method of modication which makes a quasitoric presentation from its braid presentation for a knot with braid index 3. By using a quasitoric presentation of $10_{139}$ and $10_{124}$, we can prove that $u(10_{139})=4$ and $d^{\times}(10_{124},K(3,13))=8$.

  • When certain general single or multiple hypergeometric functions were introduced, their reduction formulas have naturally been investigated. Here, in this paper, we aim at presenting a very interesting reduction formula for the Srivastava's triple hypergeometric function $F^{(3)}[x,y,z]$ by applying the so-called Beta integral method to the Henrici's triple product formula for hypergeometric series.

  • Very recently the authors have obtained a very interesting reduction formula for the Srivastava's triple hypergeometric series $F^{(3)}$(x, y, z) by applying the so-called Beta integral method to the Henrici's triple product formula for the hypergeometric series. In this sequel, we also present three more interesting reduction formulas for the function $F^{(3)}$(x, y, z) by using the well known identities due to Bailey and Ramanujan. The results established here are simple, easily derived and (potentially) useful.

  • QFD is a market driven design and development methodology for products and services to meet or exceed customer's needs and expectations, This method enables to specify clearly the customer's needs and then evaluate the product capability in terms of its impact on meeting those needs. Process of satisfying customers begins with effectively soliciting their different needs and wants which may be non-technical and imprecise in nature. Although the HoQ is a comprehensive tool for showing the relationships between attributes, it lacks the flexibility to deal with the inherent inexactness and vagueness in the voice of customer. In this paper, fuzzy theory is introduced to overcome this limitation. Qualitative customer requirements are interpreted quantitative data through fuzzy inference procedure, and then target value is determined.

  • The first object of this note is to show that a summation formula due to Padmanabham for three-variables hypergeometric function $X_8$ introduced by Exton can be proved in a different (from Padmanabham's and his observation) yet, in a sense, conventional method, which has been employed in obtaining a variety of identities associated with hypergeometric series. The second purpose is to point out that one of two seemingly new hypergeometric identities due to Exton was already recorded and the other one is easily derivable from the first one. A corrected and a little more compact form of a general transform involving hypergeometric functions due to Exton is also given.

  • We used suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) combined with mirror orientation selection (MOS) method to screen differentially expressed genes from red-fleshed kiwifruit 'Hongyang'. As a result, the 288 clones were obtained by subcloning PCR product and 192 clones that showed positive clones on colony PCR analysis were selected. All the positive clones were sequenced. After comparisons with the NCBI/Genbank database using the BLAST search revealed that 30 clones showed sequence similarity to genes from other organisms; 10 clones showed significant sequence similarity to known genes. Among these clones, 3 clones (AcF21, AcF42 and AcF106) had sequence homology to 1-aminicyclopropane-carboxylic acid (ACC)-oxidase (ACO) that known to be related to fruit ripening. The expression patterns of differentially expressed genes were further investigated to validate the SSH data by reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) and quantitative real-time PCR (qReal-time PCR) analysis. All the data from qReal-time PCR analysis coincide with the results obtained from RT-PCR analysis. Three clones were expressed at higher levels in 'Hongyang' than 'Hayward'. AcF21 was highly expressed in the other genes at 120 days after full bloom (DAFB) and 160 DAFB of 'Hongyang'.
