  • This paper proposes a variable-Q digital graphic equalizer with the opposite filters. A method for designing the proposed equalizer is also presented. In the proposed variable-Q equalizer, we adjust the Q-factor of the equalizer filter depending on the gain, yielding an improved equalizer performance. Also, by increasing the Q-factor of the opposite filters gracefully as the gain becomes greater, the inter-band interference can be removed effectively. We shall show that the frequency response of the proposed equalizer can reproduce the user's gain setting faithfully.

  • Effects of cavity material on the Q-factor measurement of microwave dielectric materials were studied by HFSS simulation and the measurements using metal cavity. $TE_{01\delta}$ mode resonant frequency was determined from the electric and magnetic field patterns and the loaded Q-factor was calculated from 3dB bandwidth of $S_{21}$ spectrum. When the cavity metal materials were Cu, SUS and Au cavity, the level of Q-factor was similar. However, Q-factor was significantly decreased when the cavity metal material was CuO. The Q-factor measurements of dielectric resonator by network analyzer using various metal cavity exhibits consistent behavior.

  • The general wavelet transform has profitable property in non-stationary signal analysis specially. The tunable Q-factor wavelet transform is a fully-discrete wavelet transform for which the Q-factor Q and the asymptotic redundancy r, of the transform are easily and independently specified. In particular, the specified parameters Q and r can be real-valued. Therefore, by tuning Q, the oscillatory behavior of the wavelet can be chosen to match the oscillatory behavior of the signal of interest, so as to enhance the sparsity of a sparse signal representation. The TQWT is well suited to fast algorithms for sparsity-based inverse problems because it is a Parseval frame, easily invertible, and can be efficiently implemented. The transform is based on a real valued scaling factor and is implemented using a perfect reconstruction over-sampled filter bank with real-valued sampling factors. The transform is parameterized by its Q-factor and its over-sampling rate, with modest over-sampling rates being sufficient for the analysis/synthesis functions to be well localized. This paper describes filter design of 2D discrete-time wavelet transform for which the Q-factor is easily specified. With the advantage of this transform, perfect reconstruction filter design and implementation for performance improvement are focused in this paper. Hence, the 2D transform can be tuned according to the oscillatory behavior of the image signal to which it is applied. Therefore, application for performance improvement in multimedia communication field was evaluated.

  • This paper describes a 2D discrete-time wavelet transform for which the Q-factor is easily specified. Hence, the transform can be tuned according to the oscillatory behavior of the image signal to which it is applied. The tunable Q-factor wavelet transform (TQWT) is a fully-discrete wavelet transform for which the Q-factor, Q, of the underlying wavelet and the asymptotic redundancy (over-sampling rate), r, of the transform are easily and independently specified. The TQWT can also be used as an easily-invertible discrete approximation of the continuous wavelet transform. The transform is based on a real valued scaling factor (dilation-factor) and is implemented using a perfect reconstruction over-sampled filter bank with real-valued sampling factors. The transform is parameterized by its Q-factor and its oversampling rate (redundancy), with modest oversampling rates (e. g. 3-4 times overcomplete) being sufficient for the analysis/synthesis functions to be well localized. Therefore, This method services good performance in image processing fields.

  • Quercus aliena and Q. serrata are both occur as natural vegetation alongside natural freshwater bodies of the southern Korea Peninsula. Q. serrata dominates over Q. aliena as secondary forest vegetation in the present day. In order to explain these natural distributional traits of the oak species, we conducted some experiments with oak seedlings which treated with major important environmental resources, including light, moisture and nutrients, under controlled conditions. We then measured the ecological niche breadths and overlap from 15 eco-morphological characteristics. The ecological niche breadth of Q. aliena and Q. serrata were higher in terms of the nutrient factor applied, but was lower terms of light. The niche breadth of Q. serrata was wider than that of Q. aliena in light and moisture exposure. On the other hand, the niche breadth of Q. aliena was similar with that of Q. serrata in terms of the nutrient factor applied. These results imply that Q. serrata has a broader ecological distribution in over a wider variety of light and moisture environments than that of Q. alien. Ecological niche overlap between two oak species was the widest in terms of the light treatment factor applied, and narrowest in terms of moisture. This response pattern was also verified by cluster and principle component analysis. These results suggest competitive interactions between Q. serrata and Q. aliena seedlings may be higher for light resources than moisture or nutrient resources, and that Q. serrata is more shade tolerant than Q. aliena.

  • New optical transmission link techniques improving performance of WDM channels, each channel have bit rate of 40 Gbps, are proposed. The proposed optical link configuration consist of optical phase conjugator (OPC) placed at middle of total transmission length, and dispersion management (DM) as a role of compensating dispersion cumulated in transmission line. It is confirmed that Q-factor of total channels are improved by combining OPC and DM in optical transmission link as a result of following fact; DM not only mitigate the cumulated dispersion in total transmission line but also help OPC to compensate optical nonlinearities. And, it is confirmed that the improvement of Q-factor of overall WDM channels depends on net residual dispersion (NRD) of optical link.

  • In this study, an analytical model of micro-beam structure including thermoelastic damping with irregularly distributed masses is investigated. The significance of thermoelastic damping for micro-scale mechanical resonators is evaluated to design -with high quality factor(Q-factor). The beam model of this work is based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. In order to determine the natural frequency of the model, energy method is applied. Also, the thermoelatic damping effects are considered by using heat conduction equations, and the Q-factor can be determined. To derive the equation of motion, non-dimensionalization is employed for systematic analysis. Results of the model are verified, and present mode shapes and Q-factors for the micro-beam with thermoelastic damping including random point masses.

  • This paper presents how to decide on tuning factor(${\delta}$) and quality factor(Q) values in design of single-tuned passive harmonic filters. Tuning factor(${\delta}$) and quality factor(Q) values have to consider before decision on circuit parameters of passive filters. A Study on these two value has not been scarcely performed and only experienced values has been used in passive harmonic filter design by far. As a experienced value, in cases of 5th and 7th filter, tuning factor(${\delta}$) is about 0.94 and 0.96 respectively and quality factor(Q) is, in all cases of, 50. If Single-tuned passive harmonic filter will be off-tuned, performance of filter will be decreased steeply and occur to parallel resonance between system reactance and filter capacitance. Therefore During the operation, In order not to off-tuning, Filter must be tuned at former order than actual tuning order. This is the same that total impedance of filter must have a reactive impedance. In this paper, Tuning factor(${\delta}$) is decided via example of real system and using the bode-plot and then performance of filters confirmed by filter current absorbtion rate. And Quality factor(Q) decided using the bode plot in example system and then performance of filters confirmed by filter current absorbtion rate also, which makes a calculated filter parameters to satisfy IEEE-519 distortion limits. Finally, Performance of the designed passive harmonic filter using the tuning factor(${\delta}$) and quality factor(Q) values, decided in this paper is verified by experiment and shows that 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th current harmonic distortions are decreased within IEEE-519 distortion limits, respectively.
