  • Teachers' presuppositions of nature of science, scientific causality, and nature are unconsciously constructed through interactions with his or her physical and social environment everyday and it began even before they were in any formal education. It directly influences their teaching later. Thus, this study examined what comprehensive presuppositions in nature of science, scientific causality, and nature are held by in-service secondary science teachers. For the study, Q-methodology was used. Q-sorting was done on 81 statements from three instruments: Nature statements, the Test of Preferred Explanations, and the Nature of Science Scale with twelve in-service science teachers. Teachers sorted the statements along a presented agreement scale of their viewpoint and the collected data was analyzed using recommended procedures for Q-sorts in order to group teachers with similar views. As a result, ten participants were placed in five factors based on their presuppositions of science, scientific causality, and nature and distinctive features of each factor were discovered. In addition, the study confirmed that presuppositions of science, scientific causality, and nature are interrelated. This study method will be helpful to discover more relationships regarding teachers' various viewpoints further.

Death to the male is understood as a comprehensive system and believed to be highly subjective experience. Therefore attitude on death is affected by personalities. As an attempt to measure the subjective meaning toward death, the unstructured Q-methodology was used. Korean Death Orientation Questonaire prepared by Kim was used. Item-reliability and Sorting-reliability were tested. Forty five cancer patients' family members hospitalized in one university medical center in Seoul were sampled. Sorting the 65 Q-itmes according to the level of personal agreement ; A forced normal distribution into the 11 levels, were carried out by the 45 P-samples. The demographic data and information related to death orientation of the P-sample was collected through face to face in depth interviews. Data was gathered from August 30 till September 22, 1995. The Z-scores of the Q-items were computed and principal component factor analysis was carried out by PC-QUANL Program. Three unique types of the death orientation were identified and labeled. Type I consists of twenty P-samples. Life and death was accepted as people's destiny, They firmly believed the existence of life after life. They kept aloof from death and their concern was facing the and of the life with dignity, They were in favor of organ donation. Type II consists of Nine P-Samples. They considered that death was the end of everything and did not believed the life after life. They were very concerned about the present life. Type III consists of Sixteen P-samples. They regarded the death as a natural phenomena. And they considered that the man is just a traveller and is bound to head for the next life which is believed to be free of agony, pain or darkness. • Purpose : Although quantitative research on alcohol consumption among nursing students is important, qualitative research is needed to determine the subjective views of individual students, such as their feelings and thoughts, and ensure the implementation of a targeted alcohol intervention program. Q-methodology is a systematic approach that examines the subjective perspectives of individuals, including their views, beliefs, and attitudes, enabling understanding of the types and characteristics according to the individual's subjectivity structure. This study examined the subjective perceptions of drinking among freshmen in nursing college using Q methodology. Methods : Q-sorting was conducted, collecting 38 P samples and 40 statements. The data were analyzed using the PC QUANL program. The principal component factor analysis method was used for Q-factor analysis. Results : The results identified four types of drinking perceptions among freshmen in nursing college. Type 1 was "safety and health pursuit," type 2 was "friendship pursuit," type 3 was "'norm-oriented," and type 4 was "sound manners." When looking at the subjective perceptions of drinking among freshmen in nursing college, there was a common opinion that drinking should not be forced and that it is an individual choice. However, the difference in views (positive and negative) of drinking shows the need for customized educational programs and interventions suitable for each type. Conclusion : Nursing freshmen should be prepared to play an important role in health care as an educational role and model in preventing damage from drinking and maintaining health promotion throughout their life by habituating proper drinking behavior during college life. In addition, it is necessary to develop a plan to increase positive awareness of drinking among nursing students through various strategic programs that can participate in sobriety prevention programs within the university.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the communication behavior styles of hemodialysis nurses based on the structured Q-methodology. The Q-population was formulated based on literature reviews and in-depth interviews with 10 hemodialysis nurses who were working in hospitals in Seoul and Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province. A total of 50 Q-samples, which were believed to best represent the communication behavior styles of hemodialysis nurses, were selected from the Q-population by the author and a professor majoring in nursing. 30 P-samples were selected from hemodialysis nurses who were working in primary, secondary, and tertiary hospitals in Seoul. Q-sorting was performed by P-samples and data was analyzed through the pc-QUANL program. The results suggested that there are four types of communication behavior styles of hemodialysis nurses, namely: "type I: listening and speaking courteously with an active mind", "type II: listening and speaking courteously with a receptive mind", "type III: advising with an explanation" and "type IV: super-reasonable with a defensive mind". It is expected that the analytical results described here may provide basic information that can be used to develop educational material for hemodialysis nurses.

  • An exhibition administrator, one who works in the exhibition space of museums and exhibition halls, has carried on various tasks in order to improve the exhibition standard and viewer's satisfaction. Although exhibition administrators have a variety of direct perceptions regarding an exhibition in the actual on-site space, a study on their consciousness was absent. Thus, this study was to comprehend the awareness of how the consciousness of exhibition administrators, who directly understand the various matters regarding the exhibition on-site, was structured and to investigate the difference between the consciousness of exhibition viewers and designers. For the study, Q-Methodology, which can scientifically manage the consciousness such as awareness and the acquired attitudes through individual experiences from a specific group, was applied. The classification of 33 Q-methodology research questions was carried out with 18 exhibition administrators, who are working at either national or public museums and exhibition halls in Korea, and the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using the QUANL PC program was performed. The results of the analysis provided the following 4 types: 'viewer attraction and exhibition method oriented', 'exhibition standard oriented', 'public relations oriented' and 'the public and government's interest oriented'. Each type showed significant characteristics. Additionally, n showed that 'exhibition standard oriented' was the common type after comparing the type of consciousness among the 3 groups of people, such as an exhibition administrator, an exhibition designer, and a viewer. It indicated that the types of 'public relations oriented' and 'the public and government's interest oriented' from the consciousness category for the exhibition administrator were the most independent type, not being found in any of the other groups. And the Significant correlation between the exhibition viewers and designers was identified after examining the Pearson's correlation among the 3 groups.
