Attenuation Structure of the Mt. Fuji Region, Japan (일본 후지산의 감쇠구조)

  • Mount Fuji is the focus of intense study because of its potential hazard signaled by seismic, geologic and historical activity. Based on extensive seismic data recorded in the vicinity of Mt. Fuji, coda quality factor ($Q_c^{-1}$) using a single scattering model hypothesis, and intrinsic and scattering quality factor $(Q_i^{-1}$ and $Q_s^{-1})$ using the Multiple Lapse Time Window Analysis (MLTW) method was measured. To focus the study on the magmatic structure below Mt. Fuji, to the data were separated into two groups: a near-Fuji region of rays traversing an area with radius 5 km around the summit (R < 5 km), and a far-Fuji region of rays beyond a radius of 20 km around the summit (R > 20 km). The results of the study have a small error range due to the large data sample, showing that all $Q^{-1}$ values in near-Fuji area are greater than those of far-Fuji area, and $Q_i^{-1}$ for both the near and far-Fuji area is higher than $Q_s^{-1}$ at high frequencies. The $Q_i^{-1}$ values of the near-Fuji area are lower than those of the other volcanic areas considered, while values of $Q_s^{-1}$ are not. The low $Q_i^{-1}$ for the volcanic region of near-Fuji suggests that the magmatic activity, or percent of partial melt, at Mt. Fuji is not as active as hot spot volcanoes such as Kilauea, Hawaii.

Q Estimates Using the Coda Waves in the Kyeongsang Basin (Coda 파를 이용한 경상분지에서의 Q값 추정)

  • In this study, coda Q has been determined by the single scattering model in the Kyeongsang Basin region using the decay of the amplitudes of coda waves on bandpass-filtered seismograms of local microearthquakes in the frequency range 1.5~18 Hz. Reported frequency dependence of Q is of the form $Q_C=Q_O ^n$$(83.9{ll}Q_0{ll}155.9,;0.76{ll}n{ll}1.05$. Considering a model incorporating both scattering and intrinsic attenuation, and assuming that the attenuation is entirely due to the scattering loss, the minimum mean free paths are about 51~56 km and the coefficients of inelastic attenuation(${\gamma}$) are between 0.0093 and 0.0098 were found. Earthquake-station paths pass through the fault zone show high attenuation and strong frequency dependency compared to other ones.

Numerical Test for the 2D Q Tomography Inversion Based on the Stochastic Ground-motion Model (추계학적 지진동모델에 기반한 2D Q 토모그래피 수치모델 역산)

  • To identify the detailed attenuation structure in the southern Korean Peninsula, a numerical test was conducted for the Q tomography inversion to be applied to the accumulated dataset until 2005. In particular, the stochastic pointsource ground-motion model (STGM model; Boore, 2003) was adopted for the 2D Q tomography inversion for direct application to simulating the strong ground-motion. Simultaneous inversion of the STGM model parameters with a regional single Q model was performed to evaluate the source and site effects which were necessary to generate an artificial dataset for the numerical test. The artificial dataset consists of simulated Fourier spectra that resemble the real data in the magnitude-distance-frequency-error distribution except replacement of the regional single Q model with a checkerboard type of high and low values of laterally varying Q models. The total number of Q blocks used for the checkerboard test was 75 (grid size of $35{\times}44km^2$ for Q blocks); Q functional form of $Q_0f^{\eta}$ ($Q_0$=100 or 500, 0.0 < ${\eta}$ < 1.0) was assigned to each Q block for the checkerboard test. The checkerboard test has been implemented in three steps. At the first step, the initial values of Q-values for 75 blocks were estimated. At the second step, the site amplification function was estimated by using the initial guess of A(f) which is the mean site amplification functions (Yun and Suh, 2007) for the site class. The last step is to invert the tomographic Q-values of 75 blocks based on the results of the first and second steps. As a result of the checkerboard test, it was demonstrated that Q-values could be robustly estimated by using the 2D Q tomography inversion method even in the presence of perturbed source and site effects from the true input model.

A study of $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ by the reversed two station method in the crust of central South Korea (Reversed Two Station Method (RSTM)에 의한 중부지방 $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ 연구)

  • The reversed two station method (RSTM) devised by Chun et al. (1987) is widely used to obtain $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ for Lg wave data with hypocentral distance greater than 90 km. By applying RSTM to the Lg data of central South Korea with hypocentral distance between 95 and 381 km, we obtained high $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$. The value of $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ is very similar with that of southeastern S. Korea, which is derived from the same method for similar distances. The studied hypocentral range seems to distort $Q_{Lg}^{-1}$ to high value because decay rate in this range is higher than 0.5, which is typical decay rate of surface wave.

  • In the anti-collision scheme proposed by EPCglobal Class-1 Gen-2 standard, the frame size for a query round is determined by Q-algorithm. In the Q-algorithm, the reader calculates a frame size without estimating the number of tags in it's identification range. It uses only the slot status. Therefore, the Q-algorithm has advantage that the reader's algorithm is simpler than other DFSA algorithms. However, the standard does not define an optimized parameter value for adjusting the frame size. In this paper, we propose the optimized parameter values for minimizing the identification time by various computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved anti-collision algorithm. We have designed an anti-collision unit using this algorithm for the 18000-6 Type C Class 1 Generation 2 standard (Gen2). The Gen2 standard uses a Q-algorithm for incremental method on the Dynamic Slot-Aloha algorithm. It has basically enhanced performance over the Slot-Aloha algorithm. Unfortunately, there are several non-clarified parts: initial value. If an incorrect value is selected, it causes degradation in performance. To increase throughput and system efficiency, and to decrease tag identification time, we propose an improved anti-collision algorithm. prorosed Q algorithm has an increment of 5% of system efficiency and a decrement of 9% of tag identification time.

A Performance Improvement Technique for Nash Q-learning using Macro-Actions (매크로 행동을 이용한 내시 Q-학습의 성능 향상 기법)

  • A multi-agent system has a longer learning period and larger state-spaces than a sin91e agent system. In this paper, we suggest a new method to reduce the learning time of Nash Q-learning in a multi-agent environment. We apply Macro-actions to Nash Q-learning to improve the teaming speed. In the Nash Q-teaming scheme, when agents select actions, rewards are accumulated like Macro-actions. In the experiments, we compare Nash Q-learning using Macro-actions with general Nash Q-learning. First, we observed how many times the agents achieve their goals. The results of this experiment show that agents using Nash Q-learning and 4 Macro-actions have 9.46% better performance than Nash Q-learning using only 4 primitive actions. Second, when agents use Macro-actions, Q-values are accumulated 2.6 times more. Finally, agents using Macro-actions select less actions about 44%. As a result, agents select fewer actions and Macro-actions improve the Q-value's update. It the agents' learning speeds improve.

  • In Gen-2 Q-algorithm, if the number of tags is small and we let the initial $Q_{fp}$ be large, the number of empty slot will be large. On the other hand, if we let the initial $Q_{fp}$ be small in spite of many tags, almost all the slots will be collided. Also, if the reader selects an inappropriate weight, there are a lot of empty or collided slots. As a result, the performance will be declined because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we propose a scheme to select the weight based on the slot-count size of current query round through the tag number estimation and.

A Strategy for improving Performance of Q-learning with Prediction Information (예측 정보를 이용한 Q-학습의 성능 개선 기법)

  • Nowadays, learning of agents gets more and more useful in game environments. But it takes a long learning time to produce satisfactory results in game. So, we need a good method to shorten the learning time. In this paper, we present a strategy for improving the learning performance of Q-learning with prediction information. It refers to the chosen action at each status in the Q-learning algorithm, It stores the referred value at the P-table of prediction module, and then it searches some values with high frequency at the table. The values are used to renew second compensation value from the Q-table. Our experiments show that our approach gets the efficiency improvement of average 9% after the middle point of learning experiments, and that the more actions in a status space, the higher performance.

  • Lg amplitude decrease $Q^{-1}$ is very important because the Lg phase is the largest seismic phase in Korea if hazardous earthquakes occurred at neighbor nations such as Japan and China. Since reliable $Q^{-1}$ from two station method can be obtained by long pair distance of stations or events, we used seismic stations both Korea and Japans recording Korean events. The obtained $Q^{-1}$ values, however, were anomalously high; these misguided values, inconsistent with tectonic activity of Korean Peninsula, seems to be related with high $Q^{-1}$ values of Japan region.
