  • Recent investigation and developments of A. Iqbal on diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole (DPP) pigments has prompted us to synthesize and close observation of a few properties of these molecules. Described are synthesis, via 1-phenyl-2-ethoxycarbonyl-5-pyrrolinone intermediate, of asymmetric derivatives such as 1,4-Diketo-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-6-phenyl-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (4), 1,4-Diketo-3-(4-bromophenyl)-6-phenybpyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (5), 1,4-Diketo-3-(3-cyanophenyl)-6-phenyl-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (6), 1,4-Diketo-3-(4-cyanophenyl)-6-phenyl-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (7), 1,4-Diketo-3-(4-pyridyl)-6-phenyt-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (8), 1,4-Diketo-3-(3-pyridyl)-6-phenyl-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (9), 1,4-Diketo-3-(2-pyridyl)-6-phenyl-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (10), 1,4-Diketo-3-($\beta$-naphthyl)-6-phenyl-pyrrolo-(3,4c)-pyrrole (11), and UV-Vis absorption spectrum of the above compounds. Results from calculation of their absorption maxima using PISYSTEM are also described.

  • A novel 2-amino-4-(8-quinolinol-5-yl)-1- (p-tolyl)-pyrrole-3-cabonitrile (2) was obtained by the reaction of 2-[2-bromo-1-(8-hydroxyquinolin-5-yl)-ethylidene]-malononitrile (1) with p-toluidene. The new synthon compound (2) could be annelated to the corresponding pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidines (4, 6, 7, 26-28), triazolo[1,5-c]pyrrolo[3,2-e]pyrimidines (10, 29, 30), pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyrazoles (11-15), pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrrolo[3,2-e] pyrimidine (17) and imidazo[1,2-c]pyrrolo[3,2-e]pyrimidines (18-25) via the reaction with some reagents such as acetic anhydride, formamide, triethyl orthoformate, hydrazine hydrate, hydroxylamine, ethylenediamine, carbon disulfide and phosphorus oxychloride. Chemical and spectroscopic evidences for the structures of these compounds are presented. The antifungal and antibacterial activity of the newly synthesized comounds were evaluated.

마이크로파와 금속 촉매를 이용한 Pyrrolo[3,2-d]-pyrimidine 유도체의 다양화 (Diversification of 4,5-disubstituted Pyrrolo[3,2-d]-pyrimidines by Microwave Assisted Metal Catalyzed Reaction)

  • 생리학적 활성을 보일 것으로 기대되는 다양한 pyrrolopyrimidine 유도체를 O-arylation과 Suzuki 짝지움 반응을 통해 합성하였다. 금속 촉매 Cu를 사용하고 마이크로파 조사 조건에서O-arylation을 성공적으로 진행하여 pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine의 4번 위치에 phenol기를 도입할 수 있었다. 또한, 금속촉매 Pd를 사용하는 Suzuki짝지움 반응도 마이크로파를 사용하여 pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine의 4번 위치에 aryl 기를 도입할 수 있었다. 유도체의 다양화를 위한 반응 조건으로 마이크로파를 사용함으로써 긴 반응 시간과 열전달 효율성 문제를 가지고 있는 전통적인 열 반응의 단점을 획기적으로 극복할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 신약개발 연구에 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대되는 pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine 유도체를 다양화하는데 사용할 수 있다.

  • 2,6-dichloroquinoxaline (13)과 m-chloroperbenzoic acid를 반응시켜 2,6-dichloroquinoxaline 4-oxide (14)를 합성하고, 이것과 pyrrolidine 혹은 indoline을 반응시켜 2-substituted 6-chloroquinoxaline 4-oxide류(15)를 합성하였다. 그리고 이들과 dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate를 반응시키니 isoxazolo[2,3-a]quinoxaline류(16)와 pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline류 (17)가 선택적으로 합성되었다. 더욱이 pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline류 (17)는 isoxazolo[2,3-a]quinoxaline류 (16)의 고리변환에 의하여 생성된다는 것을 알았다.

  • An alkaloid was isolated from the roots of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. It was identified as 3-methyl-6, 7, 8-trihydro-pyrrolo[1, 2-alpyrimidin-2-one(I) by spectral analysis. The compounds is first found in the plant kingdom.

  • Palladium-catalyzed heteroannulation of 2-amino-3-iodoquinoline derivatives and 1-trimethylsilyl internal alkynes provided highly regioselective pyrrolo[2,3-b]quinolines with trimethylsilyl group next to the nitrogen atom in the pyrrole ring.

Pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole-Based Copolymers as Donor Materials for Organic Photovoltaics

  • A new accepter unit, pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole-2,5-dione, was prepared and utilized for the synthesis of the conjugated polymers containing electron donor-acceptor pair for OPVs. Pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole-2,5-dione unit, regioisomer of the known pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione, is originated from the structure of stable synthetic pigment. The new conjugated polymers with 1,4-diphenylpyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole-2,5-dione, thiophene and carbazole were synthesized using Suzuki polymerization to generate P1 and P2. The solid films of P1 and P2 show absorption bands with maximum peaks at about 377, 554 and 374, 542 nm and the absorption onsets at 670 and 674 nm, corresponding to band gaps of 1.85 and 1.84 eV, respectively. To improve the hole mobility of the polymer with 1,4-bis(4-butylphenyl)-pyrrolo[3,2-b]-pyrrole-2,5-dione unit, which was previously reported by us, the butyl group at the 4-positions of the N-substituted phenyl group was substituted with hydrogen and methyl group. The field-effect hole mobility of P2 is $9.6{\times}10^{-5}cm^2/Vs$. The device with $P2:PC_{71}BM$ (1:2) showed $V_{OC}$ value of 0.84 V, $J_{SC}$ value of 5.10 $mA/cm^2$, and FF of 0.33, giving PCE of 1.42%.
