  • In Pusan Harbour, new port development projects are implemented such as the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal, Pusan New Port, the Navy $\bigcirc$$\bigcirc$ piers, etc. which will require new marine traffic environments in the Passage I of Pusan Harbour. Specially, the turning basin of the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal has been designed to overlay the Passage I of Pusan Harbour, which will interrupt the inbound traffic flow and the results will be worried to decrease the efficiency of port operation. Therefore, this paper will be aimed to evaluate the traffic congestion in the Pusan Passage I due to the opening of new ports within Pusan Harbour in 2006 and 2011 by using computer simulation based the queueing theory.

  • In Pusan Harbour, new port development projects are implemented such as the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal, Pusan New Port, the Nary $\infty$ piers, etc. which will require new marine traffic environments in the Passage I of Pusan Harbour Specially, the turning basin of the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal gas been designed to overlay the Passage I of Pusan Harbour, Which will interrupt the inbound traffic flow and the results will be worried to decrease the efficiency of port operation. Long-term Monthly Variations of Tide in Pusan Harbour (부산항 조석의 장기 월별 변동 특성)

  • The long-term monthly variations of tide with tidal harmonic analysis in Pusan Harbour are investigated. The present spring tidal range decreased 1.4 cm and the variation of phase lag increased than 1974. The high and low water level of yearly mean sea level is show during the February to March and August to September, respectively. It is important to note that the larger lunar elliptic N2 is large in comparison with lunisolar diurnal K1 and principal lunar diurnal O1. The ratios (Correction Factors) of monthly mean sea level and the main 4 tidal constituents are evaluated to correct the shortly (monthly) observed tide for the design of harbour facilities.

  • This paper deals with desktop simulator which can be utilized for total assessment of safety in harbour manoeuvre on a personal computer. Current, wind and tug forces are treated as well as precise mathematical model of a ship for low advance speed including stopping behaviour with effect of water depth. By using the desktop simulator, the real time simulation of berthing and unberthing manoeuvres was applied to Pusan harbour as an example. It is concluded that the above simulation technique will be beneficial to assessment of ship's safety under the environmental conditions is harbour area.

  • As port transport system consists of subsystems such as navigation system, cargo handling system, storage system, inland transport system, and Management and Information system, the productivity of this system is determined by the minimum level of subsystem. From the viewpoint of elaborating the efficiency of integrated system, it is valuable to determine the optimal level of harbour tug boat which is the most important factor of navigation system. This paper treats the optimal amount of harbour tug boat by simulation, and applied to Pusan port. In the course of simulation, an emperical formula is introduced for determining the Horse Power (HP) of tug boat by the ship's gross tonnage (G/T) refering to the cases of various ports of other countries, that is ; $Y=9.96X^{0.6}+569$. X : The gross tonnage of vessel (G/T). Y : The Horse Power (HP) of tug boat. The results of the simulation are summarized as follows ; 1) In 1987, three or four low-powered harbour tug boats, five mid-powered harbour tug boats and four high-powered harbour tug boats are necessary in the mean level. But, five or seven low-powered harbour tug boats, ten mid-powered harbour tug boats and eight high-powered harbour tug boats are necessary lest delay should occur at all. 2) In 1992, 1lee or four low-powered harbour tug boats, six mid-powered harbour tug boats and seven high-powered harbour tug boats are estimated and be necessary in the mean level.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop the design/control method that can be used for the improvement of harbour tranquility and water quality of fishing ports. For this end, firstly, the hydraulic environmental characteristics of fishing ports in the coastal waters of the Korean Peninsula are analysed and discussed combined with disasters of facilities and vessels in the ports. Secondly the problems of water quality control is pointed out considered with the improvement measures of harbour tranquility such as the methods of lengthen of main breakwaters and construction of wave absorbing structures. Finally, the control characteristics of composite functions of water quality and tranquility of fishing port are discussed and the improved control method si proposed using the experimental results for the various measures. The proposed measure is proved to be a applicable method to improve these two main functions on the design of fishing port.

  • It has been said from previous studies that the preconsolidation pressure (p$\sub$c/)of Nangton Rive. deposit is considerably less than the in situ effective burden pressure (p'$\sub$$\upsilon$ο/). Question has risen whether this small pc vale is due to under consolidation or unsuitable laboratory test including low small quality. As a cooperative research program between PHRI (Port and Harbor Research Institute) and Pusan National University, an extensive soil investigation was carried out at a site of Yangsan, Pusan, using the Japanese sampler. It Is found that although p$\sub$c/ value at the site is slightly greater than p'$\sub$$\upsilon$ο/, its over consolidation ratio (OCR) is quite small compared with aged normally consolidated clay in Japan.

  • This paper deals with PC-based ship handling simulator, which is now widely utilized not only for total assessment of safety in harbour area but also for training purpose. The suitable mathematical model for low advance speed manoeuvre is treated with the effects of current, wind, wave, tug force and water depth. We adopt 3 dimensional graphic technique for perspective representation of relative ship motion. Some graphical panels on the screen are devised for data input/output or ship manoeuvring information. We show the real time simulation of berthing menoeuvre applied to Pusan harbour as an example.

A Study on Change of Sea Water Quality due to the Development Plan of Ilgwang Harbour (일광항의 항만개발에 따른 수질변화에 관한 연구)

  • It is necessary to quantitatively asses the influence of tidal currents to analysis the coastal current patterns before or after constructing offshore structures like as breakwaters. This assesment can be made through the use of simulation models designed to reproduce the water movements of the area. And it is very important to predict a phenomenon of pollutant dispersion in the area. In this study, in order to predict the changes of sea water quality for the port development plan, Ilgwang harbour, located at the east coast of Pusan, the numerical computations were carried out. The flow patterns were investigated before and after the development of the harbour bay and coastal area connected on it. The computational models are an extension of earlier work on the flow which used the ADI Method (Alternating Direction Implicit Method) in appling to Osaka Bay by KANEKO et al. The transport of pollutant constituents depends upon the currental characteristics of the water-transporting medium. In the currental flow model, water velocities and water levels are computed throughout the regions of it. These value are then used in the mass-balance equation to obtain the pollutant-constituent transport. As a result of this research, the present water quality of Ilgwang harbour and the coastal areas connected on it was proved out some good condition. The changes of sea water quality due to the port development plan of the Ilgwang habour bay and the coastal area were not large compared with the present condition, but it will be likely able to get worse by increasing the semi-enclosed areas in the harbour bay. In order to improve the water quality of the area after development, the method to activate tidal exchange in the area can be needed, as a mitigation technique.

The Margin and Burden of Route Keeping Maneuver of Vessels Proceeding along the Fairway in the Harbour of CHUNG MU (충무항의 항로내에서 조선상의 여유와 부담)

  • Many studies are conducted to evaluate the risk of maneuvering ships in the congested harbours and narrow channels. These studies are very important for the prevention of sea traffic accidents in those sea areas. In this paper, the author carried out a series of observations on sea traffic condition of the vessels entering and leaving the harbour of CHUNG MU, in order to evaluate the risk of grounding, the margin and burden of route keeping maneuver of vessels proceeding along the fairway of this harbour. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The grounding risk indices for the east bound and west bound vessels at the middle part and western part of the fairway were higher than those of them at the eastern part. 2. The margin of route keeping maneuver in the fairway appeared to be the highest at the western part of the fairway for the east bound vessels, and the highest at the middle part for the west bound vessels, but the lowest at the western entrance for both of them. 3. The burden of route keeping maneuver in the fairway appeared to be the highest at the western part of the fairway for both of the east bound and west bound vessels, but the lowest at the eastern part for both of them. 4. The influence of maneuvering indices T' on the grounding risk indices appeared to be larger than that of maneuvering indices K' on them.
