In this research, and investigation of the eye movement was performend when the objects perceived by the eye are three-dimensional objects, two dimensional images, and trhee dimensional images. This investigation was done by observing the EQG(Electro- oculogram) waves which were obtained from experiments. The observed waves were categorized into several groups. Differences among the waves were analyzed for each object and image perceived by the eye. In order to obtain waves for analysis, two kinds of experiments were performen. In each experiment, the saccadic eye movement and the smooth pursuit eye movement were considered as an independent variables. Waves obtained from the experiments were categorized into 4 types (Wave-1, Wave-2, Wave-3, Wave-4) depending on their characteristics. Unlike the other images, three dimensional image was revealed as a key factor for the active movement of the eye. Futhermore, a unique eye movement was observed in the case of three dimensional images where the focus of the eye was achieved through three steps.
Objective : This study aim is to identify whether smooth pursuit eye movement(SPEM) using portable device can alleviate chronic hemispatial neglect. Methods : We applied smooth pursuit eye movement to one chronic hemispatial neglect patient. Experimental duration was total 4weeks - 1week baseline, 2weeks SPEM intervention, 1week 2nd. baseline. The intervention was 10 SPEM sessions (30min each, 1session daily, from Monday to Friday) over a period of 2weeks. The neglect test carried out 5 times a week. The SPEM was provided on the screen when patient sat in front of the screen(8.4 inch tablet pc, distance 40cm). The SPEM video that the 24 yellow squares moving coherently from the right to the left side. Patients were instructed to perform smooth pursuit eye movement without head and neck movement. Results : As a result of the SPEM for 2weeks, the degree of neglect tended to decrease compared to baseline A. The degree of the LBT tended to increase the at the baseline A'. In contrast, the SCT showed that tendency which the degree of the neglect maintained at the baseline A'. Conclusion : We identified that SPEM using portable device is effective intervention method for chronic hemispatial neglect.

Purpose: This study investigated changes in static balance during eye movement while in an upright standing position and compared static balance in elderly individuals according to age. Methods: A total of 154 elderly persons (male 23, female 136) were enrolled in the study. Participants followed an eye movement program that consisted of randomly occurring pursuit eye movement and saccadic eye movement. Participants were asked to remain in the double-leg standing position for 2 minutes 30 second while fixating their eyes on a specific target, after which they were instructed to perform eye movements for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Static balance was measured in terms of the area, length, and average speed (cm/s) of the center of pressure (COP) displacement before and after eye movement intervention with the eyes open. Results: The area, length, and velocity of COP displacement improved significantly (p< 0.01) after intervention. No significant differences among age groups were observed. Conclusion: The results indicated that eye movement was an effective intervention for improving static balance in elderly persons.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to identify static, dynamic balance performances and foot pressure after eye movement exercise in normal adults. Method : This study was performed on normal 18 males and 18 females subjects. They were divided into 3 groups using random sampling and executed saccadic eye movement, vestibuloocular eye movement, pursuit vergence eye movement exercise respectively. In order to compare the difference of balance and foot pressure, the subjects were measured before, middle and after eye movement. Balance was examined using the balance master 7.0 version systems. Foot pressure was examined using the gaitview AFA-50. Result : The result are as follows. 1. After first intervention, the difference of the FORM-EC item on MCTSIB variable in the vestibuloocular group was significantly decreased(p<.05) and after second intervention, the difference of the FIRM-EO(p<.05), FORM-EO(p<.01), FORM-EC(p<.01) items on MCTSIB variable in the saccadic group and FORM-EC(p<.05) item in the vestibuloocular group were significantly decreased respectively. 2. After first intervention, the difference of the EPE, MXE items in the saccadic group(p<.05) and RT(p<.05), EPE(p<.01) items in the pursuit vergence group were significantly decreased respectively after second intervention. 3. After first intervention, the difference of the Static A-P(p<.05), L-R(p<.01) and Dynamic A-P(p<.01), L-R (p<.01) items on foot pressure variable in the saccadic group, Dynamic A-P(p<.01) item in the vestibuloocular group and Static A-P(p<.01), Dynamic A-P(p<.05), L-R(p<.01) items in the pursuit vergence group were significantly decreased respectively. 4. After first intervention, the difference of the FORM-EO(p<.05), FORM-EC(p<.01) items and after second intervention, the difference of the FIRM-EO(p<.01) item on MCTSIB variable among three groups was significantly decreased respectively. Conclusion : Selective eye movement exercise program influences balance control ability and foot pressure of normal adults in positive ways.
The perceived position of a flashing target object is generally biased towards the direction of eye movement when there is no reference around the target. Current research examined the localization accuracy of a flashing target relative to a static reference. The perceived location of the target relative to the reference was distorted and the pattern of perceptual distortion systematically depended on the position of the reference relative to the target. This kind of result was consistently observed regardless of the distance between the reference and the target and direction of pursuit eye movement. We have discussed how these results could he explained by the theories previously suggested to explain the localization of objects.
Despite dynamical retinal image changes caused by pursuit eye movements, we usually perceive the stable spatial properties of the environment suite successfully Helmholtz and his followers have suggested that the visual system coordinates the retinal and extraretinal eye position information to represent the spatial properties of the environment. However. there have been a significant amount of researches showing that this kind of mechanism may not operate perfectly, and the pursuit eye movement employed in those researches were limited to conjugate eye movements. When an observer tracks an object moving away from the observer with his/her eyes. the two eyes rotate in opposite direction. and this kind of disjunctive eye movement may produce undesirable binocular disparities for the objects in the background. The present study examined whether the visual system compensated for the undesirable binocular disparities caused by disjunctive eye movements with extraretinal eye position information. Although the target object was presented frontoparellely to the subjects. the subjects reported that the object was slanted toward (or alway from) them in consistent with the undesirable binocular disparities produced by the disjunctive eye movements. These results imply that the visual system may not perfectly compensate for the undesirable binocular disparities with extraretinal eye position information.
Neuro-ophthalmological findings are common and occasionally prominent features in movement disorders. Accordingly, careful evaluation of the ocular motor functions may provide valuable information in early detection of the diseases and monitoring of the progression. Furthermore, accurate assessment of the abnormal ocular motor findings aids in understanding the pathophysiology and mechanisms of the movement disorders, and in their differential diagnosis. Ocular motility examination should include bedside evaluation and laboratory recording of the fixational abnormalities, saccades, smooth pursuit, the vestibulo-ocular reflex, optokinetic nystagmus, and vergence eye movements. In this review, we will discuss various ocular motor findings in ataxia and parkinsonian syndromes, and hyperkinetic movement disorders.

Objectives : We investigated the association of Val108/158Met polymorphism on catechol-O-methyl transferase(COMT) gene with smooth pursuit eye movement(SPEM) abnormality in Korean schizophrenia patients. Methods : We measured SPEM in 217 Korean schizophrenia patients(male 116, female 101) and divided them into two groups, one was a good SPEM function group and the other was a poor SPEM function group. Then we analyzed Val108/158Met polymorphism on COMT gene. We compared the differences of genotype and allele distributions of the polymorphism on COMT gene between the two groups. Results : The natural logarithm value of signal/noise ratio(Ln S/N ratio) of the good SPEM function group was $4.39{\pm}0.33$(mean${\pm}$s.d.) and that of poor SPEM function group was $3.17{\pm}0.71$. There were no statistically significant differences of age and male/female ratio between the two groups. There were no significant differences of genotype or allele distributions of the Val108/158Met polymorphism on COMT gene between the two schizophrenic groups. Conclusions : The results suggest that Val108/158Met polymorphism on COMT gene is not related to SPEM function abnormality in schizophrenia.
Anumber of prior studies have reported eye movement dysfunction in patients with dementia. The eye movement test which is non-invasive can evaluate the local brain function quantitatively. Therefore, it can be a useful method for characterizing regional brain abnormalities of patients with dementia. The aim of this paper is to review the literatures on eye movement abnormalities in dementia patients. Saccade system dysfunctions in Alzheimer disease include increased latency, reduced accuracy, and increased antisaccade error rates. Patients with frontotemporal dementia showed impaired reflexive saccade inhibition and increased latency and errors of antisaccade task. And delayed initiation of voluntary saccades, slow saccades, and increased errors and latency on antisaccade task were found in Huntington's disease. Patients with Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies have characteristics of impaired in both reflexive saccade execution and complex saccade performance. However, there were few reports of abnormal eye movements in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease; they could be found at the later stages after symptoms of dementia came to be evident, and secondary to cerebellar and vestibular involvement. Slowing of saccades and hypometric saccades might precede the supranuclear limitation of vertical gaze in PSP. Dysfunction of voluntary eyelid movements was a characteristic finding of PSP as well. In conclusion, patients with dementia can show various abnormal eye movements and they are related with cortial and subcortical brain dysfunctions. The research on localization of brain relevant to each symptom can promise more clinical implications of eye movement of dementia.

Objectives According to previous studies, the Chromogranin B (CHGB) gene could be an important candidate gene for schizophrenia which is located on chromosome 20p12.3. Some studies have linked the polymorphism in CHGB gene with the risk of schizophrenia. Meanwhile, smooth pursuit eye movement (SPEM) abnormality has been regarded as one of the most consistent endophenotype of schizophrenia. In this study, we investigated the association between the polymorphisms in CHGB gene and SPEM abnormality in Korean patients with schizophrenia. Methods We measured SPEM function in 24 Korean patients with schizophrenia (16 male, 8 female) and they were divided according to SPEM function into two groups, good and poor SPEM function groups. We also investigated genotypes of polymorphisms in CHGB gene in each group. A logistic regression analysis was performed to find the association between SPEM abnormality and the number of polymorphism. Results The natural logarithm value of signal/noise ratio (Ln S/N ratio) of good SPEM function group was $4.19{\pm}0.19$ and that of poor SPEM function group was $3.17{\pm}0.65$. In total, 15 single nucleotide polymorphisms of CHGB were identified and the genotypes were divided into C/C, C/R, and R/R. Statistical analysis revealed that two genetic variants (rs16991480, rs76791154) were associated with SPEM abnormality in schizophrenia (p = 0.004). Conclusions Despite the limitations including a small number of samples and lack of functional study, our results suggest that genetic variants of CHGB may be associated with SPEM abnormality and provide useful preliminary information for further study.nwhile, smooth pursuit eye movement (SPEM) abnormality has been regarded as one of the most consistent endophenotype of schizophrenia.
