  • Some customer data of manufacturing industries have a large number of incomplete data set due to the customer's infrequent purchasing behavior and the limitation of customer profile data gathered from sales representatives. So that, most sophisticated data analysis methods may not be applied directly. This paper proposes a heuristic data analysis method to classify customers in household appliances industries. The proposed PD (percent of difference) method can be used for the discriminant analysis of incomplete customer data with simple mathematical calculations. The method is composed of variable distribution estimation step, PD measure and cluster score evaluation steps, variable impact construction step, and segment assignment step. A real example is also presented.

  • Currently many companies are interested in reduction of the carbon emissions associated with their supply chain activities such as transportation and operations. Operational decisions, such as modifications in order quantities could an effective way in reducing carbon emissions in the supply chain. Cap-and-trade regulation, sometimes called emissions trading, is a market-based tool to limit greenhouse gas emissions. Under cap-and-trade regulation, emission credits are allocated to the firms and the firms trades emissions under cap-and-trade schemes. In this paper, we propose a single-manufacturer single-buyer two-echelon supply chain problem under the cap-and-trade mechanism incorporating the carbon emissions caused by transportation and warehousing activities where a single manufacturer produces a family of items in order to deliver a family of items to a single buyer at a fixed interval of time for effective implementation of Just-In-Time (JIT) Purchasing. An integrated multi-product lot-splitting model of facilitating multiple shipments in small lots between buyer and manufacturer is developed in a JIT Purchasing environment. Also, an iterative heuristic algorithm is developed to derive the common order interval, the number of intervals for each product and the number of shipments between the buyer and the manufacturer during the common interval. A numerical example is given to illustrate the savings in reduction of total cost and carbon emissions by the inventory model incorporating cap-and-trade mechanism compared to the classical inventory model. The proposed inventory model could be useful for the practical solution of two-echelon supply chain inventory problem under cap-and-trade mechanism.

  • Scheduling plays an important role in shop floor planning. A scheduling shows the planned time when processing of a specific job will start on each machine that the job requires. It also indicates when the job will be completed on every process. Thus, it is a timetable for both jobs and machines. There is only one server available and arriving work require services from this server. Job are processed by the machine one at a time. The most common objective is to sequence jobs on the severs so as to minimize the penalty for being late, commonly called tardiness penalty. Based on other objectives, many criteria may serve as s basis for developing job schedules. The process also comprises all strategic planning, capital investments, management decisions, and tasks necessary to create a new product. manufacturing processes must be created so that the product can be produced in the product facility. Purchasing new equipment and training workers may be required if new technology is to be used. Tools, fixtures, and the sequence of steps in the manufacturing processes must all be developed to allow rapid, high-quality, cost effective production. Also, it may be needed to be rearrange the production facility to adapt to the new manufacturing processes. Therefore, this study tries to proposed that Scheduling by customer needs group for minimizing the problem and reducing inventory, product development time, cycle time, and order lead time.

  • In this study, we consider a capacity planning problem where the number of machines at each workstation is determined in manufacturing systems of top-edge electronic products such as semiconductor or display. The considered manufacturing system is the typical hybrid flowshop which has identical parallel machines at each workstation and the setup operation occurs when the types of consecutively processed products are different. The objective of the problem is finding good combinations of the numbers of machines at all workstations, under the given capital amount for purchasing machines. Various heuristic methods for determining the numbers of machines at workstations are proposed and the performances were tested through a series of computational experiments. In the study, a simulation model has been developed in order to simulate the considered manufacturing system with dynamic orders and complex process. The simulation model is also used for conducting the computational comparison test among various proposed methods.
