Post-punching resistance of a flat slab can help redistribute the gravity loads and resist progressive collapse of a structure following initial damage. One important difficulty with accounting for the post-punching strength of a slab is the discontinuity that develops following punching shear. A numerical simulation technique is proposed here to model and evaluate post-punching resistance of flat slabs. It is demonstrated that the simulation results of punching shear and post-punching response of the model of a slab on a single column are in good agreement with corresponding experimental data. It is also shown that progressive collapse due to a column removal (explosion) can lead to punching failure over an adjacent column. Such failure can propagate throughout the structure leading to the progressive collapse of the structure. Through post-punching modeling of the slab and accounting for the associated discontinuity, it is also demonstrated that the presence of an adequate amount of integrity reinforcement can provide an alternative load path and help resist progressive collapse.
Effects of punching and drying process on quality of Yukwa were determined. Lightness (L) of Yukwa dough with punching was higher than that with no punching. Air cell distribution of Yukwa dough was fine with higher punching. Microstructure of Yukwa dough showed a broken surface structure with increasing punching. Hardness and adhesiveness of Yukwa dough decreased after 5 min of punching and then increased with higher punching. Expansion ratio of Yukwa base with punching at 155 rpm for 5 min was highest among the samples. Appearance of Yukwa base with no punching showed a poor shape and cross section, whereas Yukwa base with punching at 95 rpm for 10 min showed the best appearance and cross section and Yukwa base with punching at 155 rpm for 5 min also showed good appearance. The moisture content of Yukwa Bandegi after 24 hr of drying was 14.93%. Microstructure of Yukwa Bandegi showed a broken surface structure and empty spaces with increased drying time. Expansion ratio of Yukwa base with 24 hr of drying at $40^{\circ}C$ was highest among the samples. Overall, optimum punching conditions were 10 min of punching at 95 rpm or 5 min of punching at 155 rpm and optimum drying condition was 24 hr of drying at $40^{\circ}C$.
This paper is about the development of Automatic FPC(flexible printed circuit) punching instrument for the improvement of working condition and cost saving. FPC is used to detect the contact position of keyboard and button like a cellular phone. Depending on the quality of the printed ink and position of reference punching point to the FPC, the resistance and current are varied to the malfunctioning values. The size of reference punching point is 2mm and the above. Because the punching operation is done manually, The punching accuracy is varied with operator's condition. Recently, The punching accuracy has deteriorated severely to the 2mm punching reference hall so that assembly of the K/B has hardly done. To improve this manual punching operation to the FPC, automatic FPC punching system is introduced. Precise mechanical parts like a 5-step stepping motor and ball screw mechanism are designed and tested and low cost PC camera is used fur the sake of cost down instead of using high quality vision systems for the factory automation. Test algorithms and programs showed good results to the designed automatic punching system and led to the increasement of productivity and huge cost down to law material like FPC by avoiding bad quality.

In order to investigate the possibility of impact punching in brittle materials, an experimental setup was developed. In the setup, a long bar as a punch was used to apply the impact load to the specimen plate and measure the applied impact force during the impact punching process. Impact punching tests with various shape of punches were performed in soda-lime glass and silicon wafer under a different level of contact pressure. The damage appearance after the impact punching was examined according to the applied contact pressure. The minimum contact pressure required for a complete punching in glass specimens without development of radial cracks around the punched hole was sought at each condition. The minimum contact pressure increased with increasing the thickness of specimens and decreasing the end radius of punches. The profile of impact forces was measured during the impact punching experiment, and it could explain well the behavior of the punching process in brittle material plates. The measured impact force increased with increasing the contact pressure applied to the plates.
In this paper, the simple truss model was modified to predict the punching shear strength of long-span prestressed concrete (PSC) deck slabs under wheel load including the effects of transverse prestressing and long span length between girders. The strength of the compressive zone arounding punching cone was evaluated by the stiffness of inclined strut which was modified by considering aging effective modulus. The stiffness of springs which control lateral displacement of the roller supports consists of the steel reinforcement and prestressing which passed through the punching cone. Initial angle of struts was determined by the experimental observation to compensate for uncertainties in the complexities of the punching shear. The validity of computed punching shear strength by modified simple truss model was shown by comparing with experimental results and the experimental results were also compared with existing punching shear equations to determine level of predictability. The modified simple truss model appeared to better predict the punching shear strength of PSC deck slabs than other available equations. The punching shear strength, which was determined by snap-through critical load of modified simple truss model, can be used effectively to examine punching shear strength of long span PSC deck slabs.
A study on in-mold punching technology for hole piercing during molding of hollow plastic parts was conducted. Considering the non-linearity of the HDPE plastic material, mechanical properties were obtained according to the change in temperature and load speed. A standard specimen for the in-mold punching test was designed to implement the in-mold punching process, and the specimen was obtained through injection molding. In order to analyze the influence of process variables during in-mold punching, an in-mold punching mold capable of controlling variables such as temperature and support pressure of the specimen was designed and manufactured. Mold heating characteristics were confirmed through finite element analysis, and punching simulations for changes in process conditions were performed to analyze punching characteristics and reflected in the experiment. Through simulations and experiments, it was found that the heating temperature, punch shape, punching speed, and pressure of the back side of the specimen were very important during in-mold punching of HDPE materials, and optimal conditions were acquired within a given range.
As a trial of application of hydrostatic pressure in micro fomring, burr-free punching has been conducted by means of hydro-mechanical procedure. Even though it is in beginning stage, result of the hydro-mechanical punching is promising. Hydrostatic pressure helps delay fracture initiation and makes it possible to get clean shearing surface. Without any burr on both side of sheet, smooth holes are archived as intended. To verify the significance of hydro-mechanical punching, conventional punching is performed under similar conditions and relatively larger portion of fracture surface is detected in the punching hole. Despite the quality of sidewall is not good enough, it might be possible to make the hole shaped upright, reduce the roll-over radius and minimize the fracture surface by optimizing process parameters.

The objective of our study is to investigate the micro fabric ability by conventional metal forming processes. In the present investigation, micro hole punching was studied. We tried to control punching process at the micro level and scaled down the standard blanking condition for $25{\mu}m$ hole fabrication. To accommodate this, tungsten carbide tooling sets and micro punching press were carefully designed and assembled meeting accuracy requirements for $25{\mu}m$ hole punching. With our developments, 100, 50, and $25{\mu}m$ holes were successfully made on metal foils such as brass and stainless steel of 100, 50, and $25{\mu}m$ in thickness, respectively, and hole sizes and shapes were measured and analyzed to investigate fabrication accuracy. Shear behavior during micro punching was also discussed. Our study showed that the conventional punching process could produce high quality holes down to $25{\mu}m$.
Various studies on lighting energy savings are conducted, given that lighting energy consumption accounts 23.5% of building energy consumption. Especially, external type light shelf's efficiency is acknowledged; however, its application is limited in Korea, where high rise building ratio is high, due to high wind pressure. This study delves into natural lighting system to cope with wind pressure, and proposes the punching plate-installed light shelf. This study actually draws lighting energy output, according to whether the punching plate is applied through the test-bed, and verifies the effectiveness of the punching plate-installed light shelf. The conclusion is presented below: First) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in winter solstice showed that the awning area decreased as the opening ratio increased so that the indoor distributed illumination tended to increase, and $-40^{\circ}$ which was advantageous for awning was determined as the proper angle. Second) The light shelf with the punching plate in spring/autumn equinox shows improved lighting according to the angle, and the appropriate angle of light shelf with the punching plate has increased to $15^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ according to the opening ratio in comparison to $5^{\circ}C$ which is the appropriate angle of light shelf with no punching plate due to the reflection area reduced by the reflecting plate with holes. Third) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in summer solstice showed that the lighting performance tended to decrease as the opening ratio increased. 4) The light shelf with the punching plate incurs a 50% energy loss in comparison to the light shelf with no punching plate. However, its effectiveness has been proven in the aspects that it can bring a 50% energy saving in comparison to the case with no installation of light shelf and that it can be designed in response to wind pressure on the high floors.
