  • As for axisymmetirc sheet metal forming, a kind of pick-up apparatus for body-wrinkling is deviced. Experiments with both hemispherical and flat headed punches, with various clearances between punch and die, with respect to three kinds of materials each of which has two thicknesses, are performed. Firstly the process of evolution of body-wrinkling is observed. Then the critical blank-holding force (or meridional tensile force) for suppression of body-wrinkling at a specified punch-stroke is measured for all cases mentioned above. An empirical formula for it is proposed. Deformation patterns and stress distributions are analysed by the use of FEM. A simplified critical condition for body-wrinkling is formulated and introduced into the FEM program. And its effectiveness is checked by comparison with the experimental results. Using this FEM system, the governing factors of body-wrinkling are cleared up.

  • In a link-motion mechanism, numerous links are interconnected and each link executes a constrained motion at a high speed. Due to the complicated constrained motions of the constituent links, dynamic unbalance forces and moments are generated and transmitted to the main frame. Therefore unwanted vibration is produced. This degrades productivity and precise work. Based on constrained multi-body dynamics, the kinematic analysis is carried out to enable design changes to be made. This will provide the fundamental information for significantly reducing dynamic unbalance forces and moments which are transmitted to the main frame. In this work, a link-motion punch press is selected as an example of a link-motion mechanism. To calculate the mass and inertia properties of every link comprising a link-motion punch press, 3-dimensional CAD software is utilized. The main issue in this work is to eliminate the first-order unbalance force and moment in a link-motion punch press. The mass, moment of inertia link length, location of the mass center in each link have a great impact on the degree of dynamic balancing which can be achieved maximally. Achieving good dynamic balancing in a link motion punch press is quite essential fur reliable operation at high speed.

  • This paper describes a design method for the corner radius of a contacting body using the theoretical approach of contact mechanics. A complete contact, as in the case of a sharp-cornered punch, produces singular contact traction: whereas, in an incomplete contact, the singular contact traction disappears because of the rounded corners, and the contact edges are within the rounded regions. The design method aims to determine the conditions of the contact force as well as the material properties in an incomplete contact. The incomplete contact changes into the complete contact again when the contact edges exceed the rounded regions owing to either an increased contact force or the compliance of the materials. The contact length of a rounded punch is used as a parameter to derive the required conditions. As a result, a design formula is obtained, which provides a minimum allowable radius when the materials, normal contact force, and the length of a flat region of the punch are predetermined. This work consists of two parts: Part I includes a theoretical background, design method, and formula, and Part II describes the actual process with the investigation of design parameters.

초미세 천공 펀치의 성형에 대한 연구 (Study on the Fabrication of Ultrathin Punch)

  • Micro punching is one of general methods to fabricate simple holes such as permanent ink-jet printer nozzles. A thin punch, that is need for micro punching, usually has been obtained by mechanical machining. There are some method to obtain a thin punch from a cylindrical rod, e.g., microgrinding and WEDG (Wire Electro-Discharge Grinding). Inefficiently, only one punch can be obtained from these machining methods. In contrast with these methods, many punches can be fabricated simultaneously by electrochemical process. Electrochemical process has usually aimed to obtain very sharp probe for atomic force microscopy (AFM) or scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and it has not been considered the whole shape of a probe in spite of good merits. In this paper, an ultrathin punch with a tapered shape and a cylindrical tip is newly fabricated by electrochemical process.

  • Micro-drawn parts have received wider acceptance as products become smaller and more precise. The subject of this study was the deformation characteristics of ultra thin sheet metal in micro drawing of a rectangular shaped part. The influence of drawing speed and blank holding force on the product quality was investigated in micro-drawing of ultra thin sheet of beryllium copper (C1720) alloy. The specimen had a diameter of 4.8 mm and a thickness of $50{\mu}m$. Experiments were carried out in which, different blank holding force and drawing speed were considered. The product quality was evaluated by measuring the thickness and hardness along two specified directions, namely, the side and diagonal directions. The distribution of the thickness strain showed severe thinning especially around the punch radius in both directions. In the diagonal direction, thickening occurred in the flange area due to the axi-symmetric drawing mode. The increase of blank holding force and/or drawing speed was found to cause severe thinning around the punch radius. The blank holding force had a greater effect on thinning of the product than the drawing speed.

  • In order to investigate the effect of flange wrinkling on the wall break of a deep drawn rectangular cup, experiments and simulation were done. The effect of the wrinkling height on drawing force and wall break for a moving blank holder system with spacer were studied by setting a fixed clearance between the drawing die and the blank holder. Simulation and experimental results showed that wall break could be provoked by the flange wrinkling. As the wrinkling height increased, the punch force grew. The maximum punch force was obtained at its final stage of stroke.

지면반력 측정기 수직 설치 시 충격력 검증 (Evaluation of the Impact Force on the Vertically Placed Force Platform)

  • This study was to evaluate the consistency of the vertical force($F_z$) of the force platform and the impact force. Two experiments were performed. First, the force platform was vertically placed to hang to the wall. While the rotating iron body hit the force platform, $F_z$ was measured. Then $F_z$ was compared with the impact force of the rotating iron body that was precalculated by using the inertia moments and the rotating force. Second, six Taekwondo masters punched the force platform to show what a certain pattern the impart force has. They were asked to punch the target depending on target distances. The target distances were differed from the relative arm segment of subjects as 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, and 50% (100% target distance equals the aim length of each subject). Pearson's correlations were used between $F_z$ and the impact force. Also the linear regression was also performed to show the linearity. At the first experiment, $F_z$ and the impact force had much correlations and showed linear characteristics. Therefore, $F_z$ could be regarded as the impact force. At the second experiment, the strongest impact force was measured at the target distance of 80% and the time taken to the maximum impact force was within 0.02 seconds. The result of this study recommends that it can help the comparative study between the impact forces and other hitting sports.

알루미늄 판재의 고 세장비 피어싱가공을 위한 작업변수의 영향 (The Influences of Process Parameters in Piercing with a High Aspect Ratio for Thick Aluminum Sheet)

  • The aspect ratio of a hole is defined as the ratio of the thickness to the diameter of the sheet metal. Most holes in the sheet metal industry are made by piercing. However, for thick sheets, which have an aspect ratio greater than 2, a machining process like drilling instead of piercing is usually used to make holes. In the current study, piercing, which is a shearing process, is evaluated to punch a hole with a high aspect ratio by using a newly designed die set-up. The piercing die was manufactured to prevent the punch from buckling and also to improve the alignment between the die components. An aluminum alloy sheet was selected for the experiments. The influence of several process parameters such as sheet thickness, clearance and stripping force were investigated. Experimentally, a hole with an aspect ratio of 5 was pierced. The resulting hole had a clean surface and the dimensional accuracy of pierced hole was considerably improved with decreasing clearance between punch and die. It is also shown that the larger penetration depth of the effective sheared surface can be achieved for high aspect ratio piercing relative to conventional piercing with a low aspect ratio.

  • A variable blank holding force method is proposed to improve deep drawing characteristics of sheet materials. In this method, the blank holding force (BHF) is controlled throughout a drawing process so that the punch load does not exceed a critical value, which is slightly less than the conventional process with the conforming process with the variable BHF is more flexible than the conventional process with the constant BHF and it could be used for improving the product's quality and drawability. In this paper we suggest a method controlling the BHF as a function of punch travel during the forming process. The optimization BHF curves are determined theoretically and experimentally. It is concluded that for the case of optimum BHF control methods the drawn cup height and the drawing formability achieved by this method are increased than those for constant BHF method. Also, as comparing the wall thickness distribution of the cup drawn by the constant BHF and the optimum BHF control, the BHF control reduce the wall thickness variation of the drawn cup at the cup wall and make the cup thickness distribution more uniformly than the constant BHF.

  • Deep drawing process, one of sheet metal forming methods, is used widely. Circular or square shape blanks are currently studied mainly. Especially, circular blank for coating case of chip condenser remains bridges when it is made out of aluminum coil. The bridge reduces Material-withdrawal-rate of aluminum coil to $60\%$. This paper proposes a no-bridge blank instead of circular blank. To get the different values of two cases, comparison circular blank with no-bridge blank is accomplished in the point of thickness strain in the vicinity of flange. In order to find optimal condition in new proposed blank, several process variables - those are blank holder shape, die shape radii, punch shape radii and blank holding force - are changed.
