A new gate drive circuit of classic converter for a switched reluctance motor is presented. Conventional gate drive circuit usually consists of the isolated power supplies and signal transferring devices for isolation, such as photo coupler, pulse transformer, and gate drive chips. The proposed gate drive circuit consists of resistors, capacitors, and zenor diodes without isolated power supplies, that make the drive circuit simple and reduce the material cost. The operational modes are classified and analyzed. The characteristics of the phase current and the gate signal of upper switches is investigated with the variation of duty ratio through the experiments.
This paper is concerned with High Frequency, High Voltage Generator for X-ray using zero-voltage soft-switching PWM DC-DC high-power converter by Resonant method, which makes the most of the parastic LC parameters of high-voltage transformer link, for diagnostic X-ray power generator. The converter circuit basically utilizes phase-shift pulse width modulated series Resonant full-bridge PWM DC-DC high-power converter operating at a constant frequency;25kHz. The converter output regulation is digitally controlled using DSP (Digital Signal Processor) for obtaining a fast rising time and adjust output voltage within a wide load range.
There is an increasing demand for efficient high power/weight auxiliary power supplies for use on high speed traction application. Many new conversion techniques have been proposed to reduce the voltage and current stress of switching components, and the switching losses in the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) converter. Especially, the phase shift full bridge zero voltage switching PWM techniques are thought most desirable for many applications because this topology permits all switching devices to operate under zero voltage switching(ZVS) by using circuit parasitic components such as leakage inductance of high frequency transformer and power device junction capacitance. The proposed topology is found to have higher efficiency than conventional soft-switching converter. Also it is easily applicable to phase shift full bridge converter by applying an energy recovery snubber consisted of fast recovery diodes and capacitors.

Usually, large-sized buses and trucks have a very high load. In addition, frequent braking during downhill or long-distance driving, causes the conventional method using the brake friction to have a problem in safety because of brake fade and brake burst phenomenon. Auxiliary brakes dividing the braking load is essential. Hence, environment-friendly auxiliary brakes, such as contactless brake rather than the engine auxiliary brake system are needed. A study aimed at improving the energy efficiency by recharging electric energy with changing mechanical to electrical energy that occurs when braking is actively in progress. In this paper, the voltage control method is utilized to recover the electric energy generated in the electromagnetic retarder instead of the eddy current. To regenerate the braking energy into the electrical energy, the resonant L-C circuit is configured in the retarder. The voltage generated in the retarder is simply modeled as a transformer. However, retarder voltage control in this paper is simulated by modeling the induction generator because this induction generator modeling is more practical than transformer modeling. The changes in the voltage of the resonance circuit, which depends on the switch pulse duration of the control device, were analyzed. A PI controller algorithm to control this voltage is proposed. The feasibility of modeling retarder and voltage controller are shown by using MATLAB Simulink in this paper.

In this paper, driver circuit of LED lights for ships is designed and implemented to replace conventional lights with filament which have short life time due to vibration of ships. The driver of LED module is switching circuit without transformer to reduce volume and cost. As switch circuit controls input 220 VAC with PWM, LED module is reliably driven. Power factor is improved by using valley-fill PFC compensation circuit which is handled to pulse current of switching circuit. Serial-parallel LED circuit is applied to reduce change period of lights of long-term navigation ships. Array of serial-parallel can operate even if some of LEDs is damaged. It is suitable for ships that power consumption and power factor of lights including developed drive circuit have 39Watt and 0.925 respectively.

This paper presents the identification of void diameters for a cast-resin transformer using an artificial neural network (ANN) model. A PD signal was measured by the Rogowski coil sensor which has the planar and thin structures fabricated on a printed circuit board (PCB), and the PD electrode system was fabricated to simulate a PD defect by a void. In addition, void samples with different diameters were fabricated by injecting air in a cylindrical aluminum frame using a syringe during the epoxy curing process. To identify the diameter of void defects, PD characteristics such as the discharge magnitude, pulse count, and phase angle were extracted and back propagation algorithm (BPA) was designed using virtual instrument (VI) based on the Labview program. From the experimental results, the BPA algorithm proposed in this paper has over 90% accurate rate to identify the diameter of void defects and is expected to use reference data of maintenance and replacement of insulation for cast-resin transformers in the on-site PD measurement.

The utility interactive sinewave modulated inverter for the solar photovoltaic (PV) power conversion and conditioning with a new high frequency pulse modulated link is presented for domestic residential applications. As compared with the conventional full-bridge hard switching PWM inverter with a high frequency AC link, the simplest single-ended quasi-resonant soft switching sinewave modulated inverter with a duty cycle pulse control is implemented, resulting in size and weight reduction and low-cost. This paper presents a prototype circuit of the single-ended zero voltage soft switching sinewave inverter for solar power conditioner and its operating principle. In addition, this paper proposes a control system to deliver high quality output current. Major design of each component and the power loss analysis under actual power processing is also discussed from an experimental point of view. A newly developed interactive sinewave power processor which has $92.5\%$ efficiencty at 4kW output is demonstrated. It is designed 540mm-300mm-125mm in size, and 20kg in weight.

This paper presents a high efficiency resonant asymmetrical half-bridge flyback converter. The primary half-bridge circuit of the converter operates by a soft-switching type using the asymmetrical pulse-width modulation (PWM) method with the resonant capacitance and transformer leakage inductance. The secondary flyback circuit of the proposed converter utilizes a synchronous rectifier, which operates by a new voltage-driven method with a simple drive circuit. Thus the proposed converter improves the total efficiency. This paper explains the operational principle of the proposed converter by each mode and shows the converter design consideration and a design example for the prototype converter, respectively. After that, the proposed simple driving technique of the synchronous rectifier by a voltage-driven method is explained, briefly. The designed prototype converter has wide input voltage (AC $V_{in,rms}$=75~265[V]), 5[V] DC output voltage, and 100[W] output power. To verify the excellent performance of the proposed converter, the designed prototype is implemented and experimented. The good performance of the proposed converter is shown through the experimental results.

In this work, a transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS) experiment on animals is performed to stimulate the brain cortex of the mouse using modulated signals. The proposed TMS system is composed of the inverter, transformer, capacitor, variable inductor, and stimulation coil to generate 1.5 mT magnetic field in the brain cortex of the mouse. The stimulation signal is modulated to square wave where the carrier frequency is swept from 85 to 91 kHz to investigate the stimulation effect. The experimental result shows that when the carrier frequency of the stimulation signal is lower than 89 kHz, the reaction of the mouse does not change while the stimulation signal which has the carrier frequency higher than 89 kHz results in decreasing the threshold of the stimulus for the pressure.
