Effects of temperature coefficients fur dielectric constants on transient reflectances and thermal responses have been investigated for a metal(gold) thin-film during ultrashort pulse laser heating. Heating processes are simulated using the conventional conduction model(parabolic one-step, POS), the parabolic tow-step model(PTS), the hyperbolic two-step model(HTS). Results fro the HTS model are very similar to those from the PTS model, since the laser heating time in this study is considerably greater than the electron relaxation time. PTS and HTS models, however, result in completely different temperature profiles from those obtained by the POS model due to slow electron-lattice interactions compared to laser pulse duration. Transient reflectances are directly estimated from the linear relationship between electron temperature and complex dielectric constants, while conventional approaches assume that the change in reflectances is proportional to that in temperatuer. Reflectances at the front surface vary considerably for various dielectric constants, while those at the rear surface remain unchanged relatively.
The properties of plasmas produced by high power glass laser were investigated with various methods of diagnostics. Electron temperature was estimated by measurement of soft X-ray, and ion temperature was estimated by measurement of the time-of-flight of ion. The measurement of incident and reflected laser light, and Schlieren and shadowgragh methods were also used. No influence of laser pulse duration on the temperature was observed in the case of durations 2, 4 and 10 nsecs. The effective heating of plasma occurred in about 2 nsec of beginning of incident laser pulse. The experimental results for fast rising laser pulse were discussed and the influence of resetime of laser pulse on the heating of plasma was described. Neutrons produced by irradiating laser beam to solid deuterium target were detected.

TiC-Al2O3 composite ceramics has high hardness, high strength, high wear and corrosion resistance. Therefore, composite ceramics have been concerned significantly with some excellent properties and many functions as new industrial materials to the industry at large. In present research, experiments are carried out to obtain the machinability and machining properties by EDM. As a result, the most suitable machining conditions of TiC-Al2O3 composite ceramics was that the pulse duration is 10-60$mutextrm{s}$, the peak current is 10-16A. The machining speed and the wear of the tool electrode increased with the increase in peak current.
Purpose: In the study effects of San-Yin-Jiao (SP6) acupressure on anxiety and pulse during labor, and on neonatal status were examined. Method: The design was a randomized controlled clinical trial with a double-blind method. Data were collected before (pre) and after (post) treatment using structured questionnaire, anxiety scale, pulse rate, umbilical vein pH and Apgar scores. The experimental group received SP6 acupressure for the duration of each uterine contraction over a period of 30 minutes, but the control group received SP6 touch. Results: The anxiety scores between the two groups increased, but the increase was less in the SP6 acupressure group and the difference was statistically significant (p=0.019). Maternal pulse rate was not significantly different immediately after treatment (p=0.711), at 30 and at 60 minutes (p=0.140 ; p=0.108), but while the SP6 acupressure group had a stable pulse, the SP6 touch group showed an increased rate. There was no significant difference between the two groups for umbilical vein pH (p=0.124), and neonatal Apgar score at one and five minutes (p=0.387 ; p=0.979). Conclusion: These findings strengthen the belief that SP-6 acupressure can be used to relieve anxiety during labor with no side effects to either mother or baby.
In this paper, finite element modeling of the laser ultrasonics (LU) process in ablation regime is of interest. The momentum resulting from the removal of material from the specimen surface by the laser beam radiation in ablation regime is modeled as a pressure pulse. To model this pressure pulse, two equations are required: one for the spatial distribution and one for the temporal distribution of the pulse. Previous researchers have proposed various equations for the spatial and temporal distributions of the pressure pulse in different laser applications. All available equations are examined and the best combination of the temporal and spatial distributions of the pressure pulse that provides the most accurate results is identified. This combination of temporal and spatial distributions has never been used for modeling laser ultrasonics before. Then by using this new model, the effects of variations in pulse duration and laser spot radius on the shape, amplitude, and frequency spectrum of ultrasonic waves are studied. Furthermore, the LU in thermoelastic regime is simulated by this model and compared with LU in ablation regime. The interaction of ultrasonic waves with a defect is also investigated in the LU process in ablation regime. Good agreement of the results obtained from the new finite element model and available experimental data confirms the accuracy of the proposed model.
A new approach on identifying a first-order plus time-delay (FOPTD) model using finite--duration pulse inputs has been presented recently [1]. The identification methods are very simple because it is enough to observe only two extremes and the time when they occur in the transient response to pulse input. However, when there is mismatch between actual system and FOPTD model. how sensitive the methods are has not been studied. In this paper, we investigate robustness issue of those identification algorithms in the presence of the model structure mismatch and uncertainties. Through an example we will demonstrate it.
Experimental study is performed on flashlamp-pumped Ti: sapphire lasers with single, double, and four-partial-ellipse-pump cavities aiming at improving the performance of the lasers. The output energy of 604 mJ per pulse with a width of 25 $\mu$s at a total laser efficiency of 0.13% is achieved in the laser pumped by a light pulse of 45$\mu$s without a fluorescent converter The laser output energy versus its Ti: sappy ire rod length, pumping-light pulse duration, and electrical input energy are discussed with or without using a fluorescent converter. The result shows that much more output energy is obtained il a longer Ti: sapphire-rod laser pumped by a shorter light pulse when its output coupler has an optimized transmittance. In addition, an enhancement of output energy by a factor of 7 is achieved. in the laser using a fluorescent converter LD490.

A prototype of a relativistic proton generation system, based on laser-induced plasma interaction, has been designed and fabricated. The system is composed of three major parts: a fs TW laser; a target chamber, including targets and controls; and a diagnostic system for charged particles and lasers. An Offner-type pulse stretcher for chirped pulse amplification (CPA) and eight pass pre-amplifier are installed. The main amplifier will be integrated with a new pumping laser. The design values of the laser at the first stage are 1 TW in power and 50 fs in pulse duration. We expect to generate protons with their maximum energy of approximately 3 MeV and the flux of at least $10^6$ per pulse using a 10 $\mu$m Al target. A prototype target chamber with eight 8-inch flanges, including target mounts, has been designed and fabricated. For laser diagnostics, an adaptive optics based on the Shack-Hartmann type, beam monitoring, and alignment system are all under development. For a charged particle, CR-39 detectors, a Thomson parabola spectrometer, and Si charged-particle detectors will be used for the density profile and energy spectrum. In this paper, we present the preliminary design for laser-induced proton generation. We also present plans for future work, as well as theoretical simulations.
This paper presents a compact and portable high-voltage generator based on magnetic-core Tesla transformer for driving an UWB high power electromagnetic source. In order to optimize the performance of the high-voltage generator, a novel open-loop cylindrical magnetic-core adopting the quad-division lamination structure is proposed and manufactured. The designed high-voltage generator using the proposed magnetic core has a battery-powered operation and compact size of $280mm{\times}150mm$ in length and diameter, respectively. The high-voltage generator can produce a voltage pulse waveform with peak amplitude of 450 kV, a rise time of 1.5 ns, and pulse duration of 2.5 ns at the 800 V input voltage.

A connection between pulse-periodical laser radiation power and stability of liquid-metal contacts between powder particles during selective laser sintering (SLS) is determined based on analysis solving the problem of stability of liquid column in the gravity and capillary forces field. On the grounds of obtained relationships the optimization of pulse-periodical laser radiation power and SLS-process duration is realized, that allows to produce voluminous powder porous materials with pre-determined physical and mechanical properties and surface geometry. Results of metallographic investigations of powder porous materials of titanium powder produced with technological regimes calculated by means of obtained relationships are given in the work
