Numerical simulations are conducted for the analysis of a thermal mass air flow sensor with periodic heating pulses on silicon-nitride ($Si_3N_4$) thin membrane structure. This study aims to find the locations of temperature sensors on the thin membrane and the heating pulse conditions, that the higher sensitivity can be achieved, for the development of a MEMS fabricated mass air flow sensor which is driven in periodic heating pulse. The simulations, thus, focus on the membrane temperature profile according to variation of the flow velocity, heating duration time and imposed power. The flow velocity of the simulations is ranging from 3 m/s to 35 m/s, heating duration time from 1 ms to 3 ms and imposed power from 50 mW to 90 mW. The corresponding Reynolds numbers vary from 1000 to 10000.
For the reliable transmission of meaningful visual information using prosthetic electrical stimulation, it is required to develop an effective stimulation strategy for the generation of electrical pulse trains based on input visual information. The characteristics of neuronal activities of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) evoked by electrical stimulation should be understood for this purpose. In this study, for the development of an optimal stimulation strategy for visual prosthesis, we analyzed the neuronal responses of RGCs in rd1 mouse, photoreceptor-degenerated retina of animal model of retinal diseases (retinitis pigmentosa). Based on the in-vitro model of epiretinal prosthesis which consists of planar multielectrode array (MEA) and retinal patch, we recorded and analyzed multiunit RGC activities evoked by amplitude-modulated electrical pulse trains. Two modes of responses were observed. Short-latency responses occurring at 3 ms after the stimulation were estimated to be from direct stimulation of RGCs. Long-latency responses were also observed mainly at 2 - 100 ms after stimulation and showed rhythmic firing with same frequency as the oscillatory background field potential. The long-latency responses could be modulated by pulse amplitude and duration. From the results, we expect that optimal stimulation conditions such as pulse amplitude and pulse duration can be determined for the successful transmission of visual information by electrical stimulation.
Common rail injection system is flexible in injection timing, injection duration and pressure in engine. Many researches have reported on the merits in the application of common rail systems. This research investigated on characteristics and performance for single cylinder diesel engine with a common .ail injection system by varying major parameters such as injection timing, injection duration and common rail pressure. The injection timing and injection duration were controlled by electronic pulse generated. and common rail pressure were controlled by PCV driver. The 498cc single cylinder diesel engine was used in this experiment. All data for combustion pressure, injection timing and injection duration were recorded by Labview. Furthermore, this test was focused on how to optimize injection conditions.
An O-mode Ultrashort Pulse Reflectometry (USPR) system has been designed and developed for the measurement of electron density profiles on the Sustained Spheromak Physics Experiment (SSPX) spheromak. In the original design of SSPX, peak densities were envisioned to be in the range of 0.5-3${\times}$10$^{14}$ cm$^{-3}$ . The total duration of formation and sustained discharges is typically ∼2 msec. Moreover, diagnostic access on SSPX is severely restricted. Such high density and short duration plasmas coupled with stringent diagnostic access are quite challenging for conventional reflectometer systems. In USPR, the SSPX diagnostic requirements have been successfully satisfied by employing up-converting mixers and monostatic horn/waveguide configuration. As a result, the USPR system has proven its applicability for the density measurement of a future fusion device. In the density profile measurements, the USPR system is capable of routinely generating density profiles with a temporal resolution of 57 $\mu$s. This paper presents details regarding the USPR fundamental principles, associated subsystems and laboratory tests as well as the experimental results obtained on SSPX

The new technologies in mobile display developed in SEC are briefly reviewed. For a differentiation, SEC's LTPS line is based on SLS (Sequential Lateral Solidification) technology. In this paper, the characteristics of SEC's SLS in recent and future mobile displays were discussed. The microstructure produced by SLS crystallization is dependent on SLS process conditions such as mask design, laser energy density, and pulse duration time. The microstructure and TFT (Thin Film Transistor) performance are closely related. For an optimization of TFT performance, SLS process condition should be adjusted. Other fabrication processes except crystallization such as blocking layer, gate insulator deposition and cleaning also affect TFT performance. Optimized process condition and tailoring mask design can make it possible to produce high quality AMOLED devices. The TFT non-uniformity caused by laser energy density fluctuation could be successfully diminished by mixing technology.
Recently, the pulsed power system has been used to many applications. Such as remediation of environmental hazards, food sterilization, air pollution control E/P (Electrostatic Precipitator), DeNOx/DeSOx power system, ozone generator, high energy physics, and other power source applications. A pulse energy efficiency for load depends on the rising time, peak value. Pulse duration and impedance matching etc. The pulsed power system generally required for short pulse duration and high peak value was forced to consider its volume and economy. In this paper, we investigated operating characteristics of the CO2 laser using an inductively pulsed power system.

Response of tall buildings to near-field ground motions with distinct low-frequency pulses can differ dramatically from, for example, the response to the 1940 El Centro ground motion. For the same peak ground acceleration (PGA) and duration of shaking, ground motions with a pulse-like characteristic can generate much higher base shear, inter-story drifts and roof displacement in a high-rise building as compared to ground motions without the characteristic pulse. Also, the ductility demand is much higher and the effectiveness of supplemental damping is lower for pulse-like ground motions. This paper presents a simple interpretation of the response characteristics for two recorded and one synthetic near-field pulse-like ground motions.
The pulsed power systems have been widely used many other countries and their new applications have been developed by many researchers, such as E/P(Electrostatic Precipitator) to remove the industrial dust, DeNOx/DeSOx power systems, ozone generators and power sources of the laser beam, etc. In this paper, we studied the cascading technique as a new technology consisted of two pulse transformers and obtained their experimental data and results. To obtain the high pulsed voltage adopted cascading technique, we designed our compact pulse generator and tested by adjusting the value of the load resistors to obtain high pulsed voltage with steep rising time and duration time. We explained their experimental results that obtained by adopting cascading technique. Also, we compared theoretical value with measured value obtained by using the cascading method.
We report a passive Q-switching of an all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser delivering high pulse energy by using a high quality single-walled carbon nanotube saturable absorber (SWCNT-SA). A side-polished fiber coated with the SWCNT is employed as an in-line SA for evanescent wave interaction between the incident light and the SWCNT. This lateral interaction scheme enables a stable Q-switched fiber laser that generates high pulse energy. The central wavelength of the Q-switched pulse laser was measured as 1560 nm. A repetition rate frequency of the Q-switched laser is controlled from 78 kHz to 190 kHz by adjusting the applied pump power from 124 mW to 790 mW. The variation of pulse energy from 51 nJ to 270 nJ is also observed as increasing the pump power. The pulse energy of 270 nJ achieved at maximum pump power is 3 times larger than those reported in Q-switched all-fiber lasers using a SWCNT-SA. The tunable behaviors in pulse duration, pulse repetition rate, and pulse energy as a function of pump power are reported, and are well matched with theoretical expectation.
