  • Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) which consist of wind turbines with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and full-power converters have become widespread in the field of renewable power systems. Generally, conventional diode bridge rectifiers have used to obtain a constant DC bus voltage from output of PMSG based wind generator. In recent years, together advanced power electronics technology, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) rectifiers have used in WECS. PWM rectifiers are used in many applications thanks to their characteristics such as high power factor and low harmonic distortion. In general, L, LC and LCL-type filter configurations are used in these rectifiers. These filter configurations are not exactly compensate current and voltage harmonics. This study proposes a hybrid passive filter configuration for PWM rectifiers instead of existing filters. The performance of hybrid passive filter was tested via MATLAB/Simulink environment under various operational conditions and was compared with LCL filter structure. In addition, neuro-fuzzy controller (NFC) was preferred to increase the performance of PWM rectifier in DC bus voltage control against disturbances because of its robust and nonlinear structure. The study demonstrates that the hybrid passive filter configuration proposed in this study successfully compensates current and voltage harmonics, and improves total harmonic distortion and true power factor.

  • This paper describes the method for the fabrication of micro dot array on a plastic mold steel using DPSS (diode pumped solid-states) UV laser and wet etching process. We suggest the process of the ablation of a photoresist (PR) coated on plastic mold steel and wet etching process using solutions of various concentrations of $FeCl_3$, $HNO_3$ in water as etchant. This method makes it possible to fabricate metallic roller mold because the microstructures are directly fabricated on the metal surface. In the range of operating conditions studied, $17\;{\mu}J$ laser pulse energy and 50 ms laser exposure time, an etchant containing 40wt% $FeCl_3$, 5wt% $HNO_3$ and etch time for 45 s gave the $10\;{\mu}m$ of micro dot pattern on plastic mold steel.

  • In this paper a new zero current transition pulse width modulation (ZCT-PWM) buck converter is proposed to combine the desirable feature of both the conventional buck converter and resonant converters. In this proposed scheme an auxiliary circuit is added to the conventional buck converter and used to achieve soft-switching for both the main switch and the freewheeling diode while not incurring any additional losses due to auxiliary circuit And this converter operates exactly like the conventional PWM converter except for a short particular time interval. The operation of the proposed converter is explained and analyzed. and design guidelines are presented. To validate the feasibility of the proposed converter, a 100KHz 180-W prototype is built and tested.

  • A soft-switching scheme for the PWM boost converter, ZCT (Zero current transition : ZCT) boost converter Is newly proposed to obtain the desirable features of both the conventional BWM boost and resonant converters such as easy of control, reduced switching losses and stresses, an4 low EMI. In order to achieve the soft-switching action, the proposed scheme employs an auxiliary circuit, which is added to the conventional boost converter and used to achieve soft-switching for both the main switch and the output diode while not incurring any additional losses due to auxiliary circuit itself. The basic operations, in this paper, we discussed and design guidelines are presented. Through a 100kHz, 60-W prototype, the usefulness of the proposed scheme is verified.

  • This paper proposes a soft switching boost converter with an auxiliary resonant circuit. The auxiliary resonant circuit is added to a general boost converter and that is composed of one switch, one diode, one inductor and two capacitors. The resonant network helps the main switch to operate with a zero voltage switching(ZVS) and auxiliary switch also operates under the zero voltage and zero current conditions. The soft switching range is extended by the auxiliary switch and it is possible to control the proposed converter with a pulse width modulation(PWM). The ZVS and ZCS techniques make switching losses decreased and efficiency of the system improved. A theoretical analysis is verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • A compact biosignal monitoring device was developed. Electrodes for electrocardiogram (ECG) and a LED and silicon detector for photoplethysmogram (PPG) were used. A lead II type was arranged for ECG measurement and reflected light was measured at the finger tip for PPG. A single chip microprocessor (model ADuC812, Analog Device) controlled a measurement protocol and processed measured signals. PPG and ECG had a sampling rate of 300 Hz with 8-bit resolution. The maximum power consumption was 100 mW. The microprocessor computed pulse transit time (PTT) between the R-wave of ECG and the peak of PPG. To increase the resolution of PTT, analog peak detectors obtained the peaks of ECG and PPG whose interval was calculated using an internal clock cycle of 921.6 kHz. The device was designed to be operated by 3-volt battery. Biosignals can be measured for $2{\sim}3$ days continuously without the external interruptions and data is stored to an on-board memory. Our system was successfully tested with human subjects.

  • This paper reports optical properties and hole formation of a 488nm-optimumed trilayer structure utiluzed Te-based thin films as a recording layer, and the application of trilayer to 830nm. The optical recording characteristics of metallic recording media are enhanced significantly by incoporating the metal (Al) layer into an antireflection trilayer structure. Due to the interference condition inherent in the design of the trilayer structure, reflectance from holes is ranked a low fraction. the hole formation is carried out by laser by $Ar^+$ laser(488nm). For 20nsec laser pulse duration, the hole opening threshold power of $(Te_{86}Se_{14})_{50}Bi_{50}$ trilayer is lower than that of monolayor that used in this experiments. Hole shapes of the whole sample were clean. For the application of the diode laser, the thickness of dielectric is varied by$\lambda$/4n. In order to compare the monolayer with the trilayer reflectance was measured.

  • The color temperature flexibility-typed Lighting Emitting Diode(LED) lighting control system proposed in this thesis employs Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) technique to control the brightness of LED lighting. The LED lighting used as a light source has 20W downlight composed of two types of LED chips: one is Warm White and the other is Cool white. One multi-sensor module consisting an infrared sensor, an illumination sensor, and a temperature sensor was made, to which Bluetooth wireless communication technique was applied to enable a smartphone application to control lighting brightness and identify the information collected from the sensor. CS-1000, a spectroradiometer, was used to measure LED dimming control and the changing values of a color temperature in eight steps. According to a test, it was found that it was possible to change a color temperature from 3187K of Warm White LED to 5600K of Cool White LED.

  • An infrared range finder using a self-mixing laser diode (SM-LD), which has been proposed and developed by the Authors, can measure not only a range of a moving target but its velocity simultaneously. In this paper, described is that the precise mode-hop pulse train can be obtained by employing a new signal processing circuit even when the backscattered light returning into the SM-LD is much more weaker. As a result, the distance to a tilted square sheet made from aluminium or white paper, which is placed 10 cm through 60 cm from the SM-LD, is measured with accuracy of a few percent even when the tilting angle is less than 75 degrees or 85 degrees, respectively. And in this paper, described is the range-image recognition of a plane object under the condition of standstill. The output laser beam is scanned by scanning two plane mirrors-equipped with each stepping motor. And we succeeded in the acquisition of the range-image of a plane object in a few tens of seconds. Furthermore, described is a feasibility study about the range-image recognition of a slowly moving plane object.
