  • This paper describes a tripple-mode high-efficiency DC-DC buck converter. The DC-DC buck converter operate in PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) mode at moderate to heavy loads(100mA~500mA), in PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation)at light loads(1mA~100mA), and in LDO(Low Drop Out) mode at the sleep mode(<1mA). In PFM mode DPSS(Dynamic Partial Shutdown Strategy) is also employed to increase the efficiency at light loads. The triple-mode converter can thus achieve high efficiencies over wide load current range. The proposed DC-DC converter is designed in a CMOS 0.18um technology. It has a maximum power efficiency of 96.4% and maximum output current of 500mA. The input and output voltages are 3.3V and 2.5V, respectively. The chip size is 1.15mm ${\times}$ 1.10mm including pads.

  • In this paper, a dual mode buck converter with an ability to change mode is proposed, which is suitable particularly for portable device. The problem of conventional mode control circuit is affected by load variation condition such as suddenly or slowly. To resolve this problem, the mode control was designed with slow clock method. Also, when change from the PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation) mode to the PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) mode, to use the counter to detect a high load. And the user can select mode transition point in load range from 20mA to 90mA by 3 bit digital signal. The circuits are implemented by using BCDMOS 0.18um 2-polt 3-metal process. Measurement environment are input voltage 3.7V, output voltage 1.2V and load current range from 10uA to 500mA. And measurement result show that the peak efficiency is 86% and ripple voltage is less 32mV.

The DC-DC buck converter operate in PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) mode at moderate to heavy loads(80mA~500mA), in PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation)at light loads(1mA~80mA), and in LDO(Low Drop Out) mode at the sleep mode(<1mA). It has a maximum power efficiency of 97.02% and maximum output current of 500mA. The input and output voltages are 3.3V and 2.5V, respectively. The chip size is $1465um{\times}895um$ including pads.

  • This paper presents a new technique to generate the 1-bit signal by decoding Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal to a binary file before programming onto the ROM. Since each PWM signal requires only 1-bit digital signal, PWM signal and other forms of digital signal related to multi-bit can be simply generated. The results demonstrate that using this new technique to generate the PWM signal can simplify the process and hardware complication. Moreover, the signal's data and frequency can be easily modified by programming the data onto the ROM and using the counter, respectively, which can reduce the size of the circuit and make the PCB easier.

  • Pressure control is possible driving a simple ON/OFF 3-way valve of hydraulic servo system by pulse width modulation signal. But the pressure varies according to the duty ratio and carrier frequency and repeated on-off action induces pressure fluctuation. So equations for mean pressure and ripple amplitude are theoretically derived as a function of on/off time, the system parameters which decide the pressure characteristics are arranged and they are verified by experimental study. As the result selection criteria for the major design parameters are established and the basic strategy to suppress the unnecessary fluctuation can be provided for a hydraulic pressure control system using these type of valves.

  • A modified space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy based on vector space decomposition and its equivalent carrier-based PWM realization are proposed in this paper, which is suitable for six-phase asymmetrical dual stator induction machines (DSIMs). A DSIM is composed of two sets of symmetrical three-phase stator windings spatially shifted by 30 electrical degrees and a squirrel-cage type rotor. The proposed SVPWM technique can reduce torque ripples and suppress the harmonic currents flowing in the stator windings. Above all, the equivalent relationship between the proposed SVPWM technique and the carrier-based PWM technique has been demonstrated, which allows for easy implementation by a digital signal processor (DSP). Simulation and experimental results, carried out separately on a simulation system and a 3.0 kW DSIM prototype test bench, are presented and discussed.

  • A novel dual DC-DC flyback converter with leakage-energy recycling is presented in this paper. Only an active switch is used for this converter. A pulse-width-modulation strategy is adopeted to control this switch. Two transformers are employed for the proposed converter. During the switch ON-period, the primary windings of the two transformers store energies. At the switch OFF-period, the energies stored in the primary windings of the two transformers are released to the output via the secondary windings of the two transformers. Meanwhile, the leakage energies of the two transformers can be recycled. The operating principles and steady-state analyses of the proposed converter are described in detail. A prototype circuit of the proposed converter is implemented for verifying the performances.

  • This paper presents a discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) method to reduce switching losses in an indirect matrix converter (IMC) drive. The IMC has a number of power semiconductor switches. In other words, it consists of a rectifier stage and an inverter stage for AC/AC power conversion, which are composed of 12 and 6 switching devices, respectively. Therefore, the switching devices of the IMC suffer from high switching losses in the IMC drives. Various topologies to reduce switching losses have been studied by eliminating a number of switches from the rectifier stage. In this study, in contrast to prior research, a DPWM method is presented to reduce the switching losses of the inverter stage. The effectiveness of the proposed method to reduce switching losses in IMC drives is verified by simulations and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a real time implementation of selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHEPWM) using Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RGA), Particle Swarm Optimization technique (PSO) and a new technique known as Linearization Method (LM) for Single Phase Matrix Converter (SPMC) is designed and discussed. In the proposed technique, the switching frequency is fixed and the optimum switching angles are obtained using simple mathematical calculations. A MATLAB simulation was carried out, and FFT analysis of the simulated output voltage waveform confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method. An experimental setup was also developed, and the switching angles and firing pulses are generated using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) processor. The proposed method proves that it is much applicable in the industrial applications by virtue of its suitability in real time applications.

  • ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is a safety device for preventing wheel locking in a sudden braking. It consists of hydraulic modulator, ECU(Electronic Control Unit) and angular velocity sensors. Its control methods are classified into three types; deceleration control, slip ratio control and deceleration/acceleration control. In this paper, ABS mounted vehicle is mathematically modeled and the proposed model is verified by actual cars experiments, and the braking characteristics of the control methods with pulse width modulation are compared and analyzed through computer simulations.
