In this paper a new zero current transition pulse width modulation (ZCT-PWM) buck converter is proposed to combine the desirable feature of both the conventional buck converter and resonant converters. In this proposed scheme an auxiliary circuit is added to the conventional buck converter and used to achieve soft-switching for both the main switch and the freewheeling diode while not incurring any additional losses due to auxiliary circuit And this converter operates exactly like the conventional PWM converter except for a short particular time interval. The operation of the proposed converter is explained and analyzed. and design guidelines are presented. To validate the feasibility of the proposed converter, a 100KHz 180-W prototype is built and tested.
In this paper, a novel high gain bidirectional modular dc-dc converter (BMC) with unipolar and bipolar structures for dc network interconnections is proposed. When compared with traditional dc grid-connecting converters, the proposed converter can achieve a high voltage gain with a simple modular transformerless structure. A sub-modular structure for the BMC is proposed to eliminate the unbalanced current stress between the different power units (levels) in the BMC. This can realize current sharing and standardized production and assembling. In addition, phase-interval operation is introduced to the sub-modules to realize low voltage and current ripple in both sides of the converter. Furthermore, two types of bipolar topologies of the sub-modular BMC were proposed to extend its application in bipolar dc network connections. In addition, the control system was optimized for grid-connection applications by providing various control strategies. Finally, simulations of a 3-level unipolar sub-modular BMC and a 4-level bipolar sub-modular BMC were conducted, and a 1-kW experimental 3-level unipolar prototype was developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.
A compact biosignal monitoring device was developed. Electrodes for electrocardiogram (ECG) and a LED and silicon detector for photoplethysmogram (PPG) were used. A lead II type was arranged for ECG measurement and reflected light was measured at the finger tip for PPG. A single chip microprocessor (model ADuC812, Analog Device) controlled a measurement protocol and processed measured signals. PPG and ECG had a sampling rate of 300 Hz with 8-bit resolution. The maximum power consumption was 100 mW. The microprocessor computed pulse transit time (PTT) between the R-wave of ECG and the peak of PPG. To increase the resolution of PTT, analog peak detectors obtained the peaks of ECG and PPG whose interval was calculated using an internal clock cycle of 921.6 kHz. The device was designed to be operated by 3-volt battery. Biosignals can be measured for $2{\sim}3$ days continuously without the external interruptions and data is stored to an on-board memory. Our system was successfully tested with human subjects.
A new parallel hybrid soft switching converter with low circulating current losses during the freewheeling state and a low output current ripple is presented in this paper. Two circuit modules are connected in parallel using the interleaved pulse-width modulation scheme to provide more power to the output load and to reduce the output current ripple. Each circuit module includes a three-level converter and a half-bridge converter sharing the same lagging-leg switches. A resonant capacitor is adopted on the primary side of the three-level converter to reduce the circulating current to zero in the freewheeling state. Thus, the high circulating current loss in conventional three-level converters is alleviated. A half-bridge converter is adopted to extend the ZVS range. Therefore, the lagging-leg switches can be turned on under zero voltage switching from light load to full load conditions. The secondary windings of the two converters are connected in series so that the rectified voltage is positive instead of zero during the freewheeling interval. Hence, the output inductance of the three-level converter can be reduced. The circuit configuration, operation principles and circuit characteristics are presented in detail. Experiments based on a 1920W prototype are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.
This paper presents an application of the TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry) to the monitoring of the deformation of rock mass with grouted coaxial cables through laboratory tests. The grouted cable can easily deform together with the rock mass movements, and the deformed cable loses its original capacitance and the reflected waveform produced along the deformed cable consequently represents a change of voltage pulse. Therefore, it is possible to monitor the deformation of rock mass by measuring the changes in these reflection signatures. Shear test of the cemented mortar containing a specimen of coaxial cable showed that the shear deformation correlated linearly with the reflection coefficient, so the TDR was effective to monitor the displacement of the rock mass. Bending test were carried out in order to determine the influence of the crooked cables on the monitoring of rock mass movements. Controlled cirmping and shearing test upon a cable of 50 m long, 12.7 mm diameter showed not only the fact that the reflection amplitudes decreased as the cable length increased but also the proper crimping depth, width and interval between two adjacent crimps. Two coaxial cables-one 100 m long and other 175m long-were installed and grouted into the separate boreholes drilled in a sedimentary formation. The behavior of the cable was monitored with metallic TDR cable tester to measure rock mass deformation based on the interpretative techniques developed through laboratory tests.
Up to ${\sim}520{\mu}J$ broadband mid-infrared (IR) supercontinuum (SC) generation in telecommunication multimode fiber (MMF) directly pumped by a $2.054{\mu}m$ nanosecond Q-switched Tm, $Ho:YVO_4$ laser is demonstrated. An average output power of 3.64 W is obtained in the band of ~1900 to ~2600 nm, and the corresponding optic-to-optic conversion efficiency is 67% by considering the coupling efficiency. The spectrum has extremely high flatness with negligible intensity variation (<2%) in the wavelength interval of ~2070 to ~2475 nm. The SC long-wavelength edge is limited by the silicon glass material loss, and by optimizing the MMF length, the SC spectrum could extend out to ${\sim}2.6{\mu}m$. The output SC pulse shapes are measured at different output powers, and no splits are found. The SC laser beam is nearly diffraction limited with an $M^2=1.15$ in $2.1{\mu}m$ measured by the traveling knife-edge method, and the laser beam spot is monitored by an infrared vidicon camera.

Through applying hostile radar signals that use stagger PRI to PRI transform in real time, we can analyze stagger PRI and calculate the future TOA for active cancellation by using measured TOA and estimated PRI. We shows the effect of the errors that are contained in PRI and measured TOA. Then, it will suggest the technique to improve the accuracy of estimated PRI and the TOA averaging method for reducing the effect of measured TOA error. Finally, we will show that accuracy of estimated future TOA that is calculated by proposed scheme is higher than that of future TOA that is simply calculated with TDOA and newest TOA through comparing RMSE performance.

In this paper, we will review the thruster based reaction wheel momentum dumping method for low Earth orbit satellite. Thruster based momentum dumping is widely used in GEO satellites by performing momentum dumping and attitude control using thrusters at the specific time. LEO satellite should perform momentum dumping at any time, thus it is not appropriate to use GEO satellite's momentum dumping method. In this research, we will review the method for LEO satellite, which perform momentum dumping always and use reaction wheels for attitude control during dumping. To reduce thruster's valve on and off counts, we propose to use the maximum pulse width for thruster operation. To prevent attitude error increase by thrusters, we adjust the thruster operation interval. Through simulation, we verify the proposed method's effects.
UV technology is widely used in water and wastewater treatment. Many researches have been conducted on microbial disinfection and micro pollutant reduction with UV treatment. However, the study on NOM with UV has limited because low/medium pressure UV lamp is not sufficient to affect refractory organics such as NOM. Pulsed UV treatment using UV flash lamp can be operated in the pulsed mode with much greater peak intensity. The pulse duration is typically in microseconds, whereas the interval between pulses is in the order of milliseconds. The high intensity of pulsed UV would mineralize NOM itself as well as change the characteristics of NOM. Chlorine demand and DBPs formation is affected on the changed amounts and properties of NOM. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect on NOM, chlorine residual, and chlorinated DBPs formation with pulsed UV treatment.
An interleaved PWM converter is proposed to implement the features of zero voltage switching (ZVS), load current sharing and ripple current reduction. The proposed converter includes two ZVS converters with a common clamp capacitor. With the shared capacitor, the charge balance of the two interleaved parts is automatically regulated under input voltage and load variations. The active-clamping circuit is used to realize the ZVS turn-on so that the switching losses on the power switches are reduced. The ZVS turn-on of all of the switching devices is achieved during the transition interval. The interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) operation will reduce the ripple current and the size of the input and output capacitors. The current double rectifier (CDR) is adopted in the secondary side to reduce output ripple current so that the sizes of the output chokes and capacitor are reduced. The circuit configuration, operation principles and design considerations are presented. Finally experimental results based on a 408W (24V/17A) prototype are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.
