  • This paper proposes a new series-connected diode rectifier which draws sinusoidal input currents. The proposed rectifier system is configured by adding an auxiliary circuit to the conventional 12-pulse series-connected diode rectifier and employing a current injection technique. A low kVA($0.02P_{\circ}$(PU) ) active current source injects a triangular current into the interphase reactor of the diode rectifier. The current injection results in near sinusoidal input current from the utility with less than 1% THD. The resulting system is suitable for high voltage and high power applications. Experimental and simulation results are provided from a 220V, 3kVA prototype rectifier system.

  • In this paper, a space vector concept is generalized for PWM(pulse-width modulated) inverters and PWM rectifiers with current link and voltage link respectively. Through representing three-phase variables as a space vector, we propose space vector modulations for PWM voltage and current source inverters, and PWM rectifiers with current link and voltage link. For these types, switching states of the switches are systematically analyzed from tables. It is shown in three-phase PWM rectifiers that power factor of the line current and output dc voltage can be controlled arbitrarily. The PWM rectifier with current link is also given as an example system.

  • This paper introduces the drive system for 500MVA short-circuit generator. Drive system is usually low-voltage, but this system is 2300V high-voltage using Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(IGBT). Drive system consists of switchgear, 18-pulse transformer, converter(source bridge), inverter(load bridge) and control rack. In this paper, It describes the function and construction of each part.

  • Many electrical fires are occurred by leakage currents and sparks generated by a short circuit. Earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCBs) should be tripped at the moment of the faults mentioned above. In this paper, we described the tripping characteristics of ELCBs against parallel arcing faults. A diesel engine generator with the capacity of 375 kVA source was adopted to provide enough large current when a parallel arcing occurred. The experimental results showed that most ELCBs we experimented were not tripped against short-duration pulse currents produced by parallel arcing because the ELCBs are designed to be tripped by a large current with long duration similar to power frequency.

  • In design of a digital current controller for a 3-phase (3 ) voltage-source (VS) PWM converter, its conventional model, i.e., stationary or synchronous reference frame model, is used in obtaining its discretized version. It introduces, however, inherent errors since the following practical problems are not taken into consideration: the characteristics of the space vector-based pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) and the time delays in the process of sampling and computation. In this paper, the new hybrid reference frame model of the 3 VS PWM converter is proposed considering these problems. In addition, the direct digital current controller based on this model is designed without any prediction or extrapolation algorithm to compensate the time delay. So the control algorithm is made very simple. It represents no steady-state error in input current control and has the optimized transient responses. The validity of the proposed algorithm is proved by the computer simulation and experimental results.

태양위치 추적 장치를 이용한 집광형 태양광 발전시스템 (The Concentrating Photovoltaic System using a Solar Tracker)

  • 태양광 발전에 있어서 태양전지는 일사량, 온도와 부하에 의해 크게 변동하기 때문에 태양전지에 대한 특성 해석이 필요하다. 또한 태양광 발전에 있어서 가능한 많은 에너지를 얻기 위해서는 환경변화에 따른 태양의 위치추적이 필요하며 태양전지의 출력을 항상 최대로 제어할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 태양광 발전의 효율을 높이기 위하여 센서와 마이크로프로세서를 이용한 태양광 위치추적 장치를 설계하여 고정방식의 태양광 발전과 위치 추적 방식의 태양광 발전에 대하여 비교해 보았으며, 태양전지에 대한 특성 해석과 수학적 모델링을 통한 시뮬레이션을 행하여 태양전지 특성 사양과 비교해 보았다. 또한 전력변환 시스템을 Boost 컨버터와 전압형 인버터로 구성하여 각각에 대하여 실험하였으며, Boost 컨버터 제어에서 최대 전력점 추적을 위해 일정전압 제어법을 사용하였으며 인버터의 제어에서는 SPWM(Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) 제어법을 사용하여 실험해 보았다. 그 결과 태양전지 수학적 모델링 한 것의 시뮬레이션 결과와 태양전지 특성 사양과 비교하였을 때 5%이하의 오차를 보였으며. Boost 컨버터의 승압율은 167%로 시뮬레이션 한 것과 근사적으로 나타났고, 인버터는 시뮬레이션 한 것과 근사적 파형을 얻었으나 손실이 큰 것으로 나타났다.

A New Directional Coupler Type Partial Discharge Sensor Installed on the Power Lead of Rotating Machine

  • For on-line partial discharge (PD) monitoring of rotating machines, a novel sensor is proposed, which can be installed on the power lead inside the terminal box of the machine. The sensor has been designed to have high capacitance, and minimal reflection of measured pulses. As a sensitivity of the sensor, transfer impedance $Z_t$ has been measured and compared to conventional coupler-type sensors. A simple method is presented for measuring $Z_t$ of coupler sensors, using a vector network analyzer and a practical lead-cable of rotating machine. Through this method, it became possible to measure the $Z_t$ of coupler sensors including the installation environment of them. The $Z_t$ of the proposed sensor is higher than that of same sized other conventional couplers at frequencies between 30 and 92 MHz. Another sensitivity test has been performed using a PD calibrator as a test pulse source. The proposed sensor has higher measured peak voltage than the conventional coupler type sensors when the same charges were input.

공진형 C-dump컨버터에 의한 SRM의 고성능 운전 (High performance operation of SRM by Resonant C-dump Converter)

  • In this paper, the operational performance of SRM can be improved by using current hysteresis control method. This method maintains a generally flat current waveform. At the high speed, the current chopping capability is lost due to the development of the back-EMF. Therefore SRM operates in single pulse mode. By using zero-current switching and zero-voltage switching technique, the stress of power switches can be reduce in chopping mode. When the commutation from one phase winding to another phase winding, the current can be zero as fast as possible in this period because several times negative voltage of DC-source voltage produce in phase winding. This paper is compared to performance based on conventional C-dump converter topology and the proposed resonant C-dump converter topology Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.

Efficient Single-Pass Optical Parametric Generation and Amplification using a Periodically Poled Stoichiometric Lithium Tantalate

  • A high-conversion efficiency, nanosecond pulsed optical parametric generation and amplification with repetition rate of 20 kHz based on a periodically poled MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate was presented. Pumped by a Q-switched $Nd:YVO_4$ laser at 1064 nm with a pumping power of 4.8W, the generated output power was 1.6W for the signal and idler waves, achieving a slope efficiency of 50%. Using a seed source at signal wave the amplified signal output-pulse energy reached $65{\mu}J$. The obtained maximum gain was 72.4 dB.

A New Method for Elimination of Zero-Sequence Voltage in Dual Three-Level Inverter Fed Open-End Winding Induction Motors

  • Due to the excessive zero-sequence voltage in dual three-level inverter fed open-end winding induction motor systems, zero-sequence circumfluence which is harmful to switching devices and insulation is then formed when operating in a single DC voltage source supplying mode. Traditionally, it is the mean value instead of instantaneous value of the zero-sequence voltage that is eliminated, through adjusting the durations of the operating vectors. A new strategy is proposed for zero-sequence voltage elimination, which utilizes unified voltage modulation and a decoupled SVPWM strategy to achieve two same-sized equivalent vectors for an angle of $120^{\circ}$, generated by two inverters independently. Both simulation and experimental results have verified its efficiency in the instantaneous value elimination of zero-sequence voltage.
