  • In this paper, I have proposed that the 1st and 2nd AC-DC transformation methods using multi-level pulsating currents and selection switches. Through making the rectified voltage of the proposed AC-DC translation which is similar to reference voltage by selecting from multi-level pulsating currents, the proposed translation has dramatically reduced the ripple voltage. I have compared the performance of the DC voltage, the ripple voltage and the peak to peak voltage of the proposed method with the conventional method. The simulation results show that the proposed 2nd method has the better performance than the 1st method in the point of average DC voltage drop and peak to peak voltage increase.

  • Oil-paper insulation of valve-side windings in converter transformers withstand electrical stresses combining with AC, DC and strong harmonic components. This paper presents the physical mechanisms and experimental researches on partial discharge (PD) of oil-paper insulation at pulsating DC voltage. Theoretical analysis showed that the phase-resolved distributions of PDs generated from different insulated models varied as the increase of the applied voltages following a certain rule. Four artificial insulation defect models were designed to generate PD signals at pulsating DC voltages. Theoretical statements and experimental results show that the PD pulses first appear at the maximum value of the applied pulsating DC voltage, and the resolved PD phase distribution became wider as the applied voltage increased. The PD phase-resolved distributions generated from the different discharge models are also different in the phase-resolved distributions and development progress. It implies that the theoretical analysis is suitable for interpretation of PD at pulsating DC voltage.

  • This paper proposes the boost input type active clamp DC-DC converter featuring the high efficiency and improved EMI characteristics. The main characteristic of the converter is to operate with the non-pulsating input and output currents. Besides, it has the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and low voltage stress characteristics. For the proposed converter, the detailed operation principles and the simulation results are presented.

  • DC-link capacitors are one of the main components in two-level three-phase voltage source inverters (VSIs); they provide the pulsating input current and stabilize the vacillating DC-link voltage. Ideally, the larger the capacitance of DC-link capacitors, the better the DC-link voltage stabilizes. However, high capacitance increases the cost and decreases the power density of VSI systems. Therefore, the capacitance should be chosen carefully on the basis of the DC-link voltage ripple requirement. However, the DC-link voltage ripple is dependent on the pulse-width modulation (PWM) strategy. This study especially presents a DC-link voltage ripple analysis when the minimum loss discontinuous PWM strategy is applied. Furthermore, an equation for the selection of the minimum capacitance of DC-link capacitors is proposed. Experimental results with R-L loads are also provided to verify the effectiveness of the presented analysis.

  • In this study, control schemes are proposed for a propulsion system of TTX(Tilting Train eXpress). In developed traction converter, unity power factor control, compensation method of dc link voltage have been applied. Output current of converter contains harmonic ripple at twice input ac line frequency, which causes a ripple in the dc link voltage so that beatless control is developed in inverter system to reduce the pulsating torque current. This system is verified by the system modelling and prototype test.

  • This paper presents a control method, which reduces the pulsating torque and DC voltage problems of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind turbine system. To reduce the torque and power ripple, a current control scheme consisting of a proportional integral (PI) controller is presented in a positive synchronously rotating reference frame, which is capable of providing precise current control for a rotor-side converter with separated positive and negative components. The power theory can reduce the oscillation of the DC-link voltage in the grid-side converter. In this paper, the generator model is examined, and simulation results are obtained with a 3 kW DFIG-based wind turbine system to verify the proposed control strategy.

  • This paper deals with the output characteristics of resonant PWM inverter type X-ray generators connected to different DC power units i.e. a single phase full bridge rectifier, a three phase full bridge rectifier and a power storage unit(PSU). The quality of X-ray beam depends on the pulsating waveforms of DC voltage supplied to the X-ray tube. In a X-ray generator, the waveform of DC output voltage can be affected from affected from harmonic distortion of DC input power. When a tube voltage waveform is distorted, the property of X-ray beam such as reproducibility, linearity and dose can be reduced. Therefore, we compared DC output waveforms and dose with three type of DC power units and show the experimental results in this paper.

  • In order to radiate X-ray, the low ripple stabilized high voltage DC over the range of 40KV to 150KV is directly inflicted to X-ray tube. The energy characteristics of the radiated X-ray depend on the pulsating waveforms of the DC voltage supplied X-ray tube. In general, the low ripple voltage waveforms with fast rising times are required to increase with the dosage per unit time lest the exposure time should be longer in orde that the motion artifacts of an object may be eliminated in actual. The conventional types of X-ray generators were bulky in physical size and heavy in weight, and the control accuracies of the output voltages were not always satisfactory. The high frequency switching inverter and converter technology on power conversion and control systems have been greatly closed up introducing new power semiconductor devices. To decreasing the volume and the weight of high voltage transformer, and to stabilize ripple, a high frequency PWM inverter is connected between DC source and high voltage transformer. This paper describes the output characteristics according to stabilize ripple of X-ray tube voltage and compared the reproducibility, direcibility and doesage.

  • This paper presents a single-phase grid connected voltage-ed inverter with a power decoupling circuit. In the single-phase grid connected voltage-ed inverter, it is well known that a power pulsation with twice the grid frequency is contained in the input power. In a conventional voltage type inverter, electrolytic capacitors with large capacitance have been used in order to smooth the DC voltage. However, lifetime of those capacitors is shortened by the power pulsation with twice grid frequency. The authors have been studied a active power decoupling(APD) method that reduce the pulsating power on the input DC bus line, this enables to transfer the ripple energy appeared on the input DC capacitors into the energy in a small film capacitor on the additional circuit. Hence, extension of the lifetime of the inverter can be expected because the small film capacitor substitutes for the large electrolytic capacitors. Finally, simulation and experimental results are discussed.

  • LED is a promising new generation of green lighting with the advantages of high efficiency, good optical performance, long lifetime and environmental friendliness. A pulsating current can be used to drive LEDs. However, current with a high peak-to-average ratio is unfavorable for LEDs. A novel control scheme for the ac-dc critical conduction mode (CRM) flyback LED driver is proposed in this paper. By using the input voltage, output voltage and average output current to control the turn-on time of the switch, the peak-to-average ratio of the output current can be reduced. The operation principle is analyzed and an implementation circuit is put forward. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
