Since non-corrosive Fiber Reinforced Polymer(FRP) tendons have been in increasing use for underground and coastal structures constantly contacted with fresh water or sea water because of their superiority to metallic ones in corrosion-resistance, new non-metallic anchoring system for FRP tendons has been developed and investigated to verify the effectiveness of tendon force, which consist of mainly FRP pipes and Highly Expansive Mortar(HEM). The major factors considered in this experiment were expansive pressures of HEM during its hydration, sleeve lengths and types, and anchoring methods of tendon. New anchoring system were investigated from the pull-out tests. The pull-out procedures of the FRP tendons in the various pipe filled with HEM were analyzed and improved ideas were suggested to develop novel non-metallic anchoring system for FRP tendons The pull-out tests for the FRP tendon and new non-metallic anchoring system were conducted. The results show that non-metallic anchoring system for the FRP tendon has been more stablized due to the gradual expansive pressrure of HEM, as tims goes. Since tile lower stiffness of FRP pipes causes the weakness of anchoring force, it requires the increase of stiffness using a carbon fiber or an increased section area.

Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) rods provide certain benefits over steel as concrete reinforcement, such as corrosion resistance, magnetic and electrical insulation, light weight, and high strength. FRP composites can be combined with a steel core to form hybrid reinforcing rods that take advantage of properties of both materials. The objective of this study was to characterize the bond behavior of hybrid FRP rods made with braided epoxy-impregnated aramid or poly-vinyl alcohol FRP skins. Eleven rod types were tested using two concrete strengths. Specific topics examined were bond strength, slip, and type of failure in concentric pull-out tests from concrete cubes. From analysis of identical pull-out tests on both hybrid and steel rods, information on relative bond strength and behavior were obtained. It is concluded that strength is similar but slip in hybrid rods is much higher. Hybrid rods failed either by pull-out or splitting the concrete block (with or without yielding of the steel core). Experimental data showed consistency with similar test results presented in the literature.
In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology called as the NDB(New Down and Board) soil nailing system is introduced. To improve the trafficability, workability, and economical efficiency, SMC(Sheet Molding Compound) board is adopted instead of using the concrete block facing. The SMC board has a distinct advantage of showing a fine view by directly coating with any kind of environmental photos. Composite material properties of the SMC board and cement grout are distinguished features of the NDB soil nailing system. In the present study, both laboratory tests(bending and punching failure tests) and field pull-out tests are carried out to analyze the behavior characteristics of the NDB soil nailing system, including the stress and strain distribution.
Recently a removable soil nail is demanded due to problems beyond of economical and engineering purpose. In this study controlled displacement and controlled force field pull-out tests are carried out 7 times in order to evaluate short-term and long-term pull-out characteristics of the removable soil nail. For evaluating application of removable soil nailing system, bending tests of removable soil nails and tensile tests of fixed sockets are carried out. In the removable soil nailing system, the predicted horizontal displacements from FLAC-2D are also compared with the field measurements occurred in stepwise excavation. And approach for the stability analysis of removable soil nailing system after removed is proposed.
The Eurocode 4 presents some negative aspects in the design of composite slabs by the m-k Method or the Partial Connection Method. On one hand, the component chemical adherence is not accounted for in the connection between the profiled steel sheet and the concrete. On the other hand, the application of these methods requires some fitting parameters that must be determined by full scale tests. In this paper, the Eurocode 4 methods are compared with a method developed at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne, based on pullout tests, which can be a valid alternative. Hence, in order to calculate the necessary parameters for the three methods, several tests have been performed such as the full scale test described in Eurocode 4 and pull-out tests. This last type of tests is of small dimensions and implicates lower costs. Finally, a full-scale test of a steel-concrete composite slab with a generic loading is presented, with the goal of verifying the analytical formulation.
Excavation nearby the existing structures is being performed vigorously to get the greatest use of land along with fast economic growth in the downtown area. The application of soil nailing system gradually increases because of an advantage of soil nailing system adjacently constructed in the existing structures. In this study, friction resistance by pull-out is considered as main resistance except resistance formed by flexural rigidity of nail observing that resistance of flexural rigidity is about $0{\sim}15\;%$ of whole safety factor according to degree of flexural rigidity in general soil nail wall and application of geosynthetic fiber soil nailing system is evaluated through laboratory tensile strength test and field pull-out test.
When a nail pulled out in dense, granular soil, the soil in the vicinity of the nail tends to dilate, but its dilatancy results in a normal stress concentration at the soil/nail interface, thereby increasing the pull-out resistance of the inclusion. It is thought to be occurring within the resistance zone where the soil mass is at stationary state and the reinforcement are held in position by the soil, due to the friction or bond. In this paper, A series of direct shear and interface tests were conducted by using so called‘Constant Normal Stiffness Test Apparatus’which was modified and improved from the conventional direct shear box test rig. Unlikely the normal shear box test, this enables to simulate the different constraint effects of surrounding soil during shear under the conditions of constant stress and volume, constant normal stiffness. The aim of the research programme is to get better understanding of pull-out bond mechanism, thus to explore the possibility of evaluating the pull-out bond capacity of soil/reinforcement at the preliminary design stage from the laboratory test.
