  • The purpose of the national library is to collect all publications as part of the national heritage and preserve them. This study is undertaken to determine the coverage of the book collection of the National Library of Korea. Bibliographies for the year 2007 and 2008 publications are obtained from the Kyobo Book Centre and sampled 10 % systematically to be used as checklists. Coverage was determined by searching the citations against the OPAC of the National Library of Korea. Results indicate 92.25% of coverage for the books published in 2008, 78.10% coverage for the books published in 2007, and the cumulative coverage is 85.16%. The analysis shows time lag and subject fields with low coverage. Results are compared with previous studies. Reasons for the unpossessed books, such as delay of deposit and publisher characteristics, are identified. Recommendations for the coverage improvements and future research are suggested.

  • OA journal publishing has steadily increased its relative share of all scholarly journal articles by about 20%-30%. The 'Gold' OA, often preferred by readers, refers to journal articles which are more widely available through the journal's web site immediately. This study analyzed funder and university's policy for paying APCs in implementing a Gold OA. In recent years there have been a number of attempts in the UK and Europe to stimulate more systematic arrangements for paying APCs, leading funders have clearly established arrangements in place. Also OA fund made by major universities in North America provides publisher with APCs. On the other hand, it is still in early stages in paying with gold OA requirements from Korean funders and universities. The funders have a 'Green' OA policy, such as upload the article accepted version to their online platform. Although it varies by field, many Korean authors are publishing in international journals. Their articles' impacts would rise when they are published as gold OA. Therefore, funders and universities need to pay attention to gold OA publishing and set up subsidies for APCs which are required by OA or hybrid journal publishers.

The number of organization building a reference citations linking structure through CrossRef is increasing. This paper concentrates on developing a Citation Matcher Solution to effectively build the reference linking structure. Citation Matcher automatically builds and processes the reference citation and identifier mapping which used to be handled manually. After the copy & paste of the reference citation, analyzation is processed to parse the journal title, author name, volume, issue, and start pages from the free style text. CrossRef, PubMed, and YesKISTI's identifiers are collected by through a standardized method. Renovation of the building process for domestic scholastic resources' reference linking and matching will be made possible by using a Citation Matcher. The connection between resources and seamless access for the electronic full-text will enhance the usability.

  • In the print world libraries have served as the archival repository for journals that they owned. In the age of digital information, however, with the licensing of electronic journals libraries purchase access to journal contents rather than paying for ownership. Libraries note the potential benefits of electronic journals, but also quake at the thought of inaccessible electronic journal contents caused by lack of preservation, changing technology, or publisher requirements. It is real that libraries have not yet stepped in to create archives of the electronic journals they are purchasing. In the digital environments, publishers, libraries, and other information providers are not the independent units that we used to be. It will take us all working together to solve the problem of preserving access to electronic journals. Thus, it is reasonable that a national library would be charge of making a comprehensive archiving policy on electronic journals, and that cooperative agreements of local libraries can help divide responsibility for different subject areas or materials.

  • A library catalog is most important finding tool to a library collection. This tool should be so designed as to enable users to handle with ease and convenience. Library catalog use study is necessary in order to identify the demands made on the catalog by its actual users and to measure the adequacy with which the catalog is meeting these demands. Many major catalog use surveys were performed by means of questionnaire and interview, but these methods are so difficult and perverse that the results of catalog use studies might often be far from scientific precision. The aim of this paper is to seek the guidelines with which one might assist the catalogers in providing an effective library catalog for their patrons. In order to get the first-hand information an actual survey was undertaken on searching behavior at the catalog of Jeonbug National University Library from November 30 to December 5, 1981 and from May 17 to May 22, 1982. The results of the survey can be summarized as follows: 1. Most of the students (79.77%) use the library. 2. Most of the library patrons (74.52%) use the public catalog as the searching tool to the library collection. 3. 67.85% of the catalog users are interested in searching materials written in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. 4. 72.86% of the catalog users are interested in searching known items at catalog. 5. In known item searching, 49.44% of the catalog users choose title entry. 6. 20.17% of the catalog users are interested subject searching at the catalog. 7. Reference card is not utilized in searching. 8. For the translated items users want double entries in both vernacular and Korean. 9. At current catalog description, author, title, call number, translator, publisher and joint author are useful entry. Edition, author's date of birth and death, illustrative, size of book and bibliographical notes are not much utilized. 10. 55.39% of the catalog user need systematic guidance on how to use the library catalog and collection.

Outdoor wear brands have utilized social network services (SNS) such as Facebook and Twitter as means of marketing and have built close relations with consumers based on communication through these media. Recently, explosively escalating SNS data are referred to as social big data, and now that every consumer online is a commentator, reviewer, and publisher, the outdoor wear market and all of its brands have to stop talking and start listening to how they are perceived.
