The Public Opinion of Corporate Social Responsibility Activities in South Korea: Examining the Effects of Communal and Exchange Relationships Between Citizens and Corporations

  • This study explores how South Korean citizens evaluate corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices based on communal and exchange relationships. Specifically, it examines whether their evaluations of the two types of relationships are related to their supportive opinions, such as positive attitudes toward corporations and behavioral intentions to purchase products. The findings show that the communal relationship between an energy corporation and its local residents is more related to their supportive opinions than exchange relationship. That is, a communal relationship tends to generate more positive business outcomes than an exchange relationship. This study concludes that corporations should prepare for useful community outreach and CSR programs for their local community. Practitioners need to focus on building communal relationships with community members through their programs.

사회성지수(SQ)가 대학생의 전공선택 및 PR매체 채택에 미치는 영향 (The impact of Social Intelligence on the choice of educational major and the adaptation of social media in Public Relations)

  • 소셜미디어의 등장으로 사회적 관계가 중요시되면서 사회성지수(SQ)가 다시 부각되고 있다. 이것은 공중관계를 다루는 PR과 밀접한 관계가 있다는 점에서 대학생들의 전공선택과 소셜미디어 채택에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구의 필요성으로 제기된다. 사회성지수는 다른 사람들과 잘 지내면서 그들을 자신에게 잘 협조하도록 하는 능력이라는 점에서 언론홍보전공 학생들에게 필요한 능력이고 또 적성이라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 본 연구는 언론홍보전공 학생들의 사회성지수가 기타 인문사회경영 전공학생들이나 자연이공계 학생들 보다 낮게 나타났다는 점에서 언론홍보전공 학생들에 대한 관계관리 능력이나 사회성지수를 높여줄 수 있는 교육이 필요하다는 점을 지적하고 있다. 이것은 결국 사회성지수가 전공 선택에 거의 영향을 미치지 못했다는 의미도 된다. 따라서 본 논문은 언론홍보전공 학생들에게 알브레히드(Albrecht)가 개발한 사회성지수 향상 프로그램 (SPACE)을 학습시키는 것과 이러한 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 새로운 교과목의 개발과 채택이 필요하다는 점을 밝히고 있다. 반면, 본 연구는 사회성지수가 높은 사람이 스마트폰과 같은 소셜미디어를 보다 활발히 이용한다는 사실을 보여주고 있다. 이것은 사회성지수가 관계 확립과 관계유지 능력을 높여 주는 소셜미디어 이용에 영향을 미친다는 것을 의미한다.

Factors Influencing the Intention to Continue Using the Metaverse: Focusing on the Influence of Social Norms

  • This study aims to examine factors influencing the intention to continue using the metaverse, focusing on the impact of social norms. Specifically, direct and indirect effects of technical characteristics (perceive quality, interactivity, perceived playfulness), user characteristics (self-efficacy, personal innovativeness), and social influence factors (descriptive norm, injunctive norm, subjective norm) on continuous use intention were examined. The role of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness as a mediator was also examined. An online survey was conducted with 165 college students attending universities in two large cities in South Korea who had used the metaverse. As a result, perceived playfulness, descriptive norm, and perceived usefulness directly influenced continuous use intention. Perceived playfulness, interactivity, and subjective norm influenced continuous use intention indirectly through perceived usefulness. This study theoretically extends the Technology Acceptance Model by specifying social influence in metaverse contexts. Practical implications are provided in terms of marketing strategy for the metaverse industry to continue to grow and develop.

국내 병원과 미국 병원의 홈페이지를 통한 언론관계 비교 분석에 관한 연구 (A comparison study on the online media relations reported in homepages of hospitals in Korea and hospitals in USA)

  • Now more than ever, many journalists are using hospitals' homepages for articles about hospitals, their mission, research, and events. Therefore hospitals' homepages have to be planned and constructed for journalists. The purpose of this study is to investigate hospitals' online media relations through analysing homepages. For investigating specifically, this study compares hompages of hospitals in Korea and hospitals in USA. This study uses four categories; basic media relations tools, useful information, interactive communication tools, and ease of use for journalists. The result of this study shows that hospitals' homepages in Korea are needed to improve for building with journalists. The hospitals' hompages have to be constructed by a variety of materials; press room, image and graphic archives, multimedia resources, and interactivity or responsiveness. This study suggests that the hospitals' homepages have the potential to achieve the desired public relations objective but are not commonly being used to their full potential in media relations.

중학생의 자존감, 의사소통 및 학교생활만족도와의 관계 (Study on the Relations among Self-Esteem, Communication and School Satisfaction in Middle School Students)

  • Purpose: The study investigated the relationship among self-esteem, communication and school satisfaction in middle school students. Method: A self-reporting questionnaire was completed by 145 students from October 8-19, 2007. The research tools included established scales of self-esteem, communication, and school satisfaction. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA, and Sch$\acute{e}$ffe's test using the SPSS 12.0 program. Result: Significantly positive correlations were evident between self-esteem and communication, self-esteem and school satisfaction, and communication and school satisfaction. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a strategy to increase self-esteem, communication and school satisfaction for middle school students.

  • 시시각각으로 변하는 시책 홍보 환경 속에서, 일선 공무원들이 무엇을 어떻게 해야 할지 몰라 홍보 업무에 어려움을 겪을 때가 많다. '홍보가 중요하다, 홍보가 문제이다.'라는 말을 가장 많이 하는 동시에 가장 많이 듣기도 하지만, 시민들이 시책을 인지하지 못한다면 그 시책은 무용지물이 될 수밖에 없다. 따라서 본 연구는 모바일 소통의 핵심인 소셜 미디어를 이용한 아산시의 시책 홍보 전략을 살펴보고자 한다. 특히, 모바일 소셜 미디어 서비스가 중요한 이유는 기존 소통 방식의 전환을 가져옴에 따라, 공공 차원에서도 서비스의 효율성 제고와 대국민 소통 강화에 적극 활용할 필요가 있기 때문이다. 시책 홍보를 이해하고 실행하는 데 있어서 원론적 매뉴얼이 아닌, 홍보 담당자들이 상황에 맞게 참고할 수 있는 시책 홍보의 실천적 가이드가 필요하다. 또한, 공공 기관의 소셜 미디어가 어떻게 운영되고 있는지를 살펴봄으로써 향후 공공 기관에서 시책 홍보 수단으로서 소셜 미디어를 활용하는 가이드라인을 제공해줄 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다. 아울러 긴급 정보 보호 사태를 맞이할 경우 소셜 미디어를 활용하면 보다 신속하게 정보를 알리고 효율적으로 대응할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

A Study on Promotional Plans of Local Business by using SNS (Social Network Service): Focused on Naver Band, Blog, Kakao Talk and Facebook

  • This study investigated solutions of not only weak organization but also poor communication with customers from point of view of SNS such as Naver blog, Naver band, Kakao Talk and Facebook to promote local business market. The study gave strategies: First, SNS marketing strategy shall be used to do public relations and communicate in accordance with features of each SNS. Naver Blog that is opened SNS shall be used to do public relations and to invite new customers, and Kakao Talk that is closed SNS shall be used to increase customers having high loyalty, and Facebook that has both properties of SNS, that is to say, openness and closure, shall be used to raise effects of word-of-mouth to make use of new sales window. The communication can find out customers' needs to provide customers with customized services. Second, Naver Band and/or cafe shall be opened to increase link and friendliness and to have community consciousness realizing common goal and to destroy merchants' helplessness and individualism and to make change of the market for the place of community. Changes among the merchants may get better ideas to do events continuously and to get more SNS marketing effects and synergy. Third, the merchants shall make change not momentarily but continuously by making efforts steadily. Good communication in and out of the market may create inherent brand value to differ from super chain and/or SSM and to increase sales as well as traditional market image and to attain customers' loyalty.

Digital Diplomacy via Social Networks: A Cross-National Analysis of Governmental Usage of Facebook and Twitter for Digital Engagement

  • Over the last couple of years, digital diplomacy has become a fascinating area of research among Mass Communication, Peace and Conflict Studies, and International Affairs scholars. Social media and new technology open up new avenues for governments, individuals, and organizations to engage with foreign audiences. However, developing countries' governments are still lacking in the realization of the potential of social media. This study aims to analyze the usage of social media (Facebook & Twitter) by the two biggest countries in South Asia (Pakistan and India). I selected 10 government officials' social media accounts including prime ministers', national press offices', military public relations offices', public diplomacy divisions', and ministries of foreign offices' profiles. The study relies on quantitative content analysis and a comparative research approach. The total number of analyzed Twitter tweets (n=1,015) and Facebook posts (n=1,005) include 10 accounts, five from each country. In light of Kent and Taylor's (1998) dialogic communication framework, the results indicate that no digital engagement and dialogue occurs between government departments and the public through social networking sites. Government departments do not engage with local or foreign audiences through digital media. When comparing both countries, results reveal that India has more institutionalized and organized digital diplomacy. In terms of departmental use of social media, the digital diplomacy division and foreign office of India is more active than other government departments in that nation. Meanwhile, Pakistan's military public relations office and press office is more active than its other government departments. In conclusion, both countries realize the potential of social media in digital diplomacy, but still lack engagement with foreign audiences.

Designing Health Games for Anti-Smoking Advertising Targeting College Students: The Impact of Message Types and Voice-Over

  • Video games are an alternative channel for public health authorities constantly striving to reach target audiences and make positive changes. The objective of this research is to address effectiveness of health games as a health promotion technology for anti-smoking communication. This study tested the impact of advertising message types and voice-over relative to anti-smoking persuasion. By using commercial-level custom-made first person shooter (FPS) games, two experimental studies demonstrated usefulness of applying health games to change a player's attitude towards smoking. In particular, an interactive in-game message with a persuasive voice over was the most effective method to change targets' attitude towards smoking. Findings of our research offer meaningful insight on health promotion research and provide possible directions for future anti-smoking communication using health games.

인스타그램을 활용한 대학도서관 홍보에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Public Relations of University Libraries using Instagram)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 인스타그램을 활용한 대학도서관의 홍보 활동에 대한 재학생의 이용 현황과 인식을 파악하고 이를 바탕으로 도서관 홍보를 위한 대학도서관 인스타그램 운영 방안을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내외 대학도서관 인스타그램 운영 현황을 조사하고, 소속 대학의 도서관 인스타그램을 이용하는 학생 292명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 대학도서관 인스타그램 운영 개선을 위해 첫째, 재학생의 인스타그램 이용과 밀접하게 연관된 '도서관 행사 및 이벤트' 정보를 활용하되 실질적인 도서관 이용으로 이어질 수 있는 참여 방법을 기획하여 도서관 이용을 활성화하는 것이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 도서관 이미지 인식에 긍정적인 영향을 주기 위해서 인스타그램을 통해 사서의 역할을 홍보하고 일상적 커뮤니케이션 정보를 활용하는 것이 필요하다. 셋째, 도서관 인스타그램에 이용자가 문의할 수 있는 방법을 안내하고, 주기적인 게시물 업로드와 모니터링을 통해 이용자와의 소통에 적극적으로 대응하는 것이 필요하다.
