The aims of automation efforts in libraries are the rationalization of interval work and improvement of user services. After a period of exclusive internal computer utilization, later voluntary contact with the computer (e.g., circulation control with self services), patrons of American libraries now have to go to a computer terminal if they want certain information. Online public access catalogs(OPAC) have been used in American libraries since the end of the seventies. But OP AC are accepted by patron only if they have a useful and flexible user interface. This paper briefly describes the use of online catalogs in different type of libraries, categories of user (user, non-user), aspect of catalog use in context with computer experience etc. The disscussion then focuses on the characteristics of the final report of online catalog use study of Council on Library Resources and user problems in searching, as reported in many other catalog use studies.

이 연구는 다수의 어린이를 일상적으로 경험해 온 전문가의 관점을 통해 어린이의 목록 이용 과정에서 나타나는 문제점과 한계에 대해 고찰하고, 더불어 어린이용 목록의 개발에 도움이 되는 기초 데이터를 확보하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이번 연구에서 밝혀내고자 시도한 내용은 다음과 같다: 첫째, 사서들이 관찰한 어린이의 정보탐색 과정은 어떠한 특징을 가지고 있을까? 둘째, 사서들은 어린이의 목록 이용과 목록 이용 과정에서 나타나는 장애 요인에 대해 어떠한 경험을 축적하여 왔는가? 셋째, 어린이 전용 목록의 개발에 대해 우리 공공도서관 사서들은 어떠한 기대를 가지고 있는가? 마지막으로, 어린이용 목록의 개발과 관련하여 당면한 향후 과제는 무엇인가? 등이다. 연구에 필요한 데이터는 공공도서관에서 어린이 서비스를 담당하는 사서 29명을 대상으로한 설문조사와 면담조사를 통해 확보하였다. 연구의 결과, 사서들은 현행 목록이 어린이의 수준에 적합하지 않다고 느끼고 있으며, 어린이의 정보요구와 탐색행태에 기초한 어린이 전용 목록의 개발을 절실히 요구하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

도서관목록에 있어 '이용자'의 중요성은 아무리 강조하여도 지나침이 없다. 그러나 도서관목록에 대한 요구와 기대가 이용자 집단별로 얼마나 어떻게 다른지에 대해서는 제대로 검증된 바가 없다. 이 연구는 도서관목록에 대한 이용자 집단별 차이를 이해하고, 나아가 그러한 차이에 근거한 실행 방안을 마련하는데 필요한 기초 자료를 확보하고자 하는 목적에서 이루어졌다. 구체적으로, 이 연구에서는 이용자 집단을 초등학생, 중 고등학생, 대학생, 일반인 등 네 집단으로 나누고, 이들의 도서관목록 탐색행태에 대해 조사한 다음, 각 집단에서 발견되는 보편적 속성과 집단별 차이를 규명하고자 하였다. 연구에 필요한 데이터는 544명을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 수집하였으며, 수집된 데이터는 빈도분석과 교차분석을 이용하여 분석하였다. 목록과 관련한 행태적 특징을 10개의 지표로 나누어 분석한 결과, 이용자 집단 간에 통계적으로 의미 있는 차이가 확인되었다. 연구의 결론에서는 후속연구를 통해 이용자 집단별로 보다 심층적인 조사와 분석이 필요함을 제언하였다.

디스커버리는 차세대 도서관 목록과 더불어 도서관 자원의 탐색 기능을 향상하기 위해 대두된 개념이다. 이 논문에서는 정보탐색행태 관점에서 디스커버리 기능을 정의하고, 그 기능을 구성하는 요소를 도출한 후, 공공도서관을 대표하는 11개의 지역대표도서관의 온라인 목록과 3개의 인터넷 서점을 대상으로 탐색과 디스커버리 기능을 평가하여 비교하였다. 평가 결과, 디스커버리를 구성하는 모든 기능에서 인터넷 서점이 도서관 온라인 목록에 비해 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 공공도서관 온라인 목록은 여전히 알고 있는 자료 탐색에 집중하고 있으며, 이용자는 디스커버리 기능을 통해 얻을 수 있는 우연한 발견의 기회를 갖기 어렵다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

이 연구는 편목업무 아웃소싱의 득과 실을 공공도서관의 사례를 통해 직접 검증해 보는데 목적을 두고 있다. 이번 연구에서 필자가 밝혀내고자 시도한 내용은 다음과 같다: 첫째, 편목업무에 아웃소싱을 도입함으로써 실질적으로 업무의 효율성이 증대되었는가? 둘째, 편목업무의 아웃소싱이 목록의 품질에 어떠한 영향력을 미쳤는가? 셋째, 편목업무의 아웃소싱은 이용자서비스 업무를 강화하는데 과연 도움이 되었는가? 이 연구에서는 편목업무의 아웃소싱을 시행하고 있는 공공도서관의 사례를 분석하되, 상대적 비교를 위해 편목업무의 아웃소싱을 시행하지 않고 있는 공공도서관 중에서 비슷한 예산과 인력, 장서규모를 가진 도서관의 사례를 동시에 분석하였다. 표본으로 선정한 도서관은 대규모, 중규모, 소규모에 해당하는 공공도서관 각각 3곳씩 총 6곳이었다.

도서관 서비스의 기본은 자료에 대한 이용자의 효율적인 접근을 지원하는데 있으며, 이를 위해서는 서지데이터(서지MARC)를 활용한 자료검색서비스의 고품질화가 전제되어야 한다. 그러나 국내에서는 도서관목록을 근간으로 한 자료검색서비스 관련 논의가 2010년대 초반에 머무르고 있어 자료검색서비스 현황을 파악하고 이용자 요구를 면밀히 살펴보는 작업이 필요하다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 연구는 도서관목록이 이용자 요구에 기반한 효율적인 자료탐색도구로 거듭나기 위한 방향을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 부산지역 49개 공공도서관 자료검색서비스를 '목록검색 방식'과 '정보제공 방식'에 따라 분석하였고, 둘째, 공공도서관 이용자 322명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 이용자 요구를 파악하였으며, 마지막으로 자료검색서비스의 우수 참조사례를 근거로 현황과 요구사이의 간극을 좁힐 수 있는 개선방향을 제안하였다.

As information technologies are applied to the libraries in information society, the library services have been changing its feature. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explore and to establish a paradigm of the library services in information society. It is hypothesized that the application of information technologies leads to the change of the library services in information society. To prove the hypothesis, the data were collected from various research results carried out in the developed countries and by observing various libraries where the information technologies are extensively applied. The findings are as follows: 1. As information technologies are applied to the library, many new library services emerge for the society. 2. As the electronic data replace the paper data, the collection of a library becomes the collection of the libraries in the world. Therefore, the accessibility to the information network is more important than to own information in the library. Librarians select various electronic data according to the library policy which distinguishes their own library collection from others. The policy also solves the various problems related to weeding and preserving library collection. And the use of CD-ROM selection tools enable library users to select their own data. Now, the censorship becomes the concems of the library users, not the library. 3. The catalogs are reorganized for the electronic data for the international use. The most important information in the catalog is the location of the data and the multi access to the data are necessary. 4. As the information technologies are applied in book selection, cataloguing, information retreival and circulation, the library users are enable to service themselves in the library. And most of the routine works related to the information service are taken over by the library staffs. Professional librarians engage in user education, information marketing and fund raising. 5. Public libraries in information society serves those who have no access to the information. They help the illiterates. patients in the hospital, prisoners, and homeless in the city. Therefore, the information technologies enhance the role of librarians in professional work in the library as well as in the information society.

본 논문은 어린이청소년자료를 검색하고자 하는 이용자의 정보요구를 반영한 검색의 접근점이 온라인목록 구축에 반영되어야 할 필요성을 역설하였다. 예를 들면 이용자 연령, 자료유형, 주제/테마, 소재지, 권장도서, 서평, 수상작 정보 등의 검색접근점은 어린이청소년자료를 위한 온라인목록시스템에 반드시 포함시켜야 할 접근점으로 파악하였다. 국립중앙도서관 KOLIS-NET이 소장하고 있는 어린이청소년자료를 기반으로, 어린이청소년자료 온라인 종합목록시스템 구축방안을 제시하고 있다.

이 연구는 최근 다문화도서관이나 도서관에서의 다문화서비스에 대한 관심이 증가함에 따라 현실적인 문제로 다가오고 있는 '다문화 장서의 목록 구축'에 대한 문제를 논의하고자 하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 특히 이 연구에서는 "(사)아시아공동체 부설 국제어린이도서관"에서 소장하고 있는 1만 여권의 다문화 장서에 대한 목록 구축 경험에 기초하여 향후 다문화 장서의 목록 구축에 적용할수 있는 체험적 방안을 도출하고자 하였다. 구체적으로, 이 연구에서는 (1) 그동안 다문화 장서의 목록 구축에 관한 국내외 도서관계의 기존 논의를 추적하고, (2) 현재 우리나라의 공공도서관과 대학도서관, 그리고 민간도서관에서 경험하고 있는 다문화 장서 목록 구축의 사례와 북미 도서관계의 사례를 비교하여 살펴본 다음, (3) 실제 목록 구축의 경험을 통해 향후 우리 도서관계에서 다문화 장서의 목록을 체계적으로 구축하기 위한 방안과 향후 과제에 대해 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is offering appropriate system and training program to helf the system designer and the trainer in addition to analyze information use behavior about the web search tools and evaluate the estimated system by user groups. The results of the study are as follows $\circledS1$ It is desirable to consider age than other demographic variables in the case of web search tool. $\circledS2$ It is desirable to design Directory Search Tool in the case of web search tool which serves the student user group. $\circledS3$ An Intelligent Search Tool is more appropriate for the students who are using keyword search tool than any other tools. $\circledS4$ A discussion about standard classification of the web information should be accomplished soon because users feel confused in using web search tools due t o absence of standard mode of classification about classified item. $\circledS5$ Librarians need the cognition about data on internet s a source of information and need positive service and user training program about these information because student users hardly get help from librarians or library orientation for learning method to use web search tool. $\circledS6$ Internet use experience and years of computer use had effect on their use ability when using web search tool, whereas computer use experience, library use experience and Online Public Access Catalogs (OPAC) use experience had no effect on it. Especially, OPAC use experience had no effect on use ability of web search tool of student user group because student user groups had no information about internet and web search tool and they did not recognized the difference about search method between web search tool and OPAC. $\circledS7$In the case of web search tool, it si important to index the increasing web resource automatically by a searching robot. But in the case of student users, web search tool is much more needed to index by index expert due to the absence of ability about selecting and combining keyword.
