  • This study examined the job satisfaction and its association with violence experience, job stress, and burn-out. A total of 1,240 119 rescue workers who worked in 14 fire stations across the country were surveyed. The survey was conducted by self-administered questionnaires from 1 March, to 30 April, 2016. As a result, the score of job satisfaction according to violence experience, job stress, and burn-out were significantly lower in the group with higher scores of violence experience, job stress, and burn-out. Regarding the correlation of job satisfaction with violence experience, job stress, and burn-out, the score of job satisfaction was negatively correlated with the violence experience, job stress, and burn-out. With an analysis of the covariance structure, the job stress was more influential on the job satisfaction than violence experience and burn-out. In addition, a higher violence experience, job stress, and burn-out were found to decrease job satisfaction. On the other hand, a higher the job stress and violence experience resulted in higher burn-out rates. The results suggested that the job satisfaction is influenced more by job stress than by violence experience and burn-out. Therefore, concrete measures will be needed to reduce job stress and promote the job satisfaction of 119 rescue workers.

Method : This was a secondary data analysis study. The original data were collected utilizing an online panel. The sample comprised 615 individuals aged between 19 and 49 years nationwide. The study variables included the public's perception of reimbursement for education and counseling services, age, gender, education level, income, and health status. Variables such as past experience of being admitted to an intensive care unit by self, family, or relatives and the recognition of advanced practice nurses were also examined. Results : The mean of the perception score was 3.15 on a 4-point scale ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree). Among the participants, 89.2% answered "somewhat agreed" or "strongly agreed" to the question about the education and counseling services being covered by the National Health Insurance. Moreover, education level, past experience of being admitted to an intensive care unit by self, family, or relatives, and recognition of advanced practice nurses were significantly associated with the perception score. • Catastrophic health expenditure refers to spending more than a certain level of household's income on healthcare expenditure. The aim of this study was to investigate the proportion of households that experienced catastrophic health expenditure between 2006 and 2017 with the National Survey of Tax and Benefit (NaSTaB) and between 2011 to 2016 using Households Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) data. The results of the NaSTaB showed 2.16% of households experienced the catastrophic health expenditure in 2017. In trend analysis, the NaSTaB revealed a statistically significant decreasing trend (annual percentage change [APC] = -2.01, p<0.001) in the proportion of households with the catastrophic health expenditure. On the other hand, the results of the HIES showed 2.92% of households experienced the catastrophic health expenditure in 2016. Also, there was a slightly increasing trend (APC= 1.43, p<0.001). In subgroup analysis, groups with lower income levels were likely to experience catastrophic health expenditure. In conclusion, further public support system is needed to lower experience these healthcare expenditures and monitor the low income group.

  • This paper investigated the satisfaction of agro-healing and analyzed its willingness to participate in agro-healing in the future. First, a survey of intentions to participate in agro-healing found that the ratio of participation was 55.6% (125 people). It is analyzed that more than half of teenagers who have experienced agro-healing programs are willing to participate again. Second, a survey of satisfaction with agro-healing showed the highest improvement in agricultural awareness, including increased public interest value of agriculture. This can be seen as a way to raise public awareness of agriculture, as well as the effects of mental and physical health recovery, social integration contributions, and social safety contributions. Third, an analysis of the effect of awareness on the willingness to participate in agro-healing showed that the less significant it was, the higher the awareness, the higher the willingness to participate. In other words, various information delivery means, such as public relations measures, should be prepared to raise awareness of agro-healing. Fourth, it can be seen that those with low satisfaction with expected effects such as health recovery, social safety, social integration, and improved agricultural awareness have a clear difference in their willingness to participate in the future. In other words, the higher the satisfaction level of the agro-healing program, the higher the willingness to participate in the agro-healing industry in the future.

Structured questionnaire surveys were conducted to samples from general public and environmental experts during March and April, 2000. Total numbers of respondents were 773, general public and 353 experts. Analysis of the data showed that risk perception was correlated with health concern, environmental satisfaction, perception of environmental pollution, interest on the environmental issues, knowledge, experiences, and social-cultural consciousness, and so on. Overall environmental risk perception was affected by knowledge on environmental issues, experience of damage from environmental problems, sex and perception of environmental pollution. According to the results, environmental risk perception is not independent from social and psychological factors, and it may be desirable to consider the related factors in the process of risk communication for a more effective risk management or environmental policy.

  • Recent years have seen an intensified discussion in many OECD countries about the role and mission of public research in the innovation system. This discussion takes place in quite specific national contexts, but should benefit from international experience. However, whereas voluminous literatures address the changing governance methods, organizational forms and missions of universities, much less attention has been devoted to developing a common understanding of the challenges faced by non-university public research institutions. The main goals of this paper is to contribute to clarifying the nature of these challenges, outlines possible policy answers and draws some implications for Korea. In the first section, the paper uses available internationally comparable indicators to review trends in the contribution of government research institutes (GRIs) to R&D and innovation activities. In the second section, the paper identifies the current major changes in the dynamics of innovation that may call for further adjustments in the positioning, organization and steering of public research institutes. Finally, the paper outlines some strategic objectives and orientations for the reform of public research institutes as part of the broader agenda of the Korean innovation strategy.

  • Nuclear energy remains one of the world's major energy sources, making up over 10% of global electricity generation in 2017. Public acceptance of nuclear energy is essential for its adoption. From a practical perspective, it is beneficial to have a simple indicator that can predict the actual adoption of nuclear energy. Based on practical experience, the authors suggest tolerance and self-sufficiency as potential indicators that may predict the adoption of nuclear energy. By evaluating the cross-sectional data of 18 countries in 2013, this research assesses the actual impact of tolerance and self-sufficiency on public acceptance in order to identify the validity of the two variables. The results indicate that the two variables are statistically significant, while public acceptance is insignificant in explaining national adoption of nuclear energy. This may be because tolerance reflects national willingness to accept potential risk, while self-sufficiency explains a government's likelihood of developing non-carbon energy sources.
