Despite a growing trend in elder mistreatment, research about the problem and its effects on the victims has been sparse. Notably missing are the perspectives of older adults themselves, whose perceptions and responses to elder mistreatment are greatly affected by social and cultural context. The purpose of this study is to examine factors associated with older persons' perceptions of elder mistreatment and subsequent help-seeking behaviors. Six hypothetical scenarios featuring elders were the basis of interviews with 124 older persons, drawn by a quota sampling strategy. Findings indicated that older persons perceived situations of physical abuse (87.9%), financial abuse (86.3%), and psychological abuse (66.1%) to be elder mistreatment, yet respondents showed less sensitivity to elder mistreatment that took the form of physical mistreatment within a couple (47.6%), neglect (40.3%), and self-neglect (16.9%). Certain scenarios yielded less intention to seek help: namely, physical mistreatment within a couple, neglect, and self-neglect. Older persons' personal characteristics, social factors, and cultural factors exerted significant influence on both perception and help-seeking behavior. Perception was identified as a key factor that significantly influenced help-seeking behavior. Findings point to awareness of cultural and social context for success in elder mistreatment prevention, intervention, and policy design for this population.

This study aimed to discuss mental health services for children and adolescents that are being implemented as initiatives of the Korean government and to review the functions and roles of these projects during the COVID-19 pandemic. Three government departments are in charge of providing mental health services for children and adolescents: Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and Ministry of Health and Welfare. The Ministry of Education has implemented several policies to facilitate the early detection of mental health issues among school students (from preventive interventions to selective interventions for high-risk students). The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family additionally serves out-of-school children and adolescents by facilitating early identification of adolescents in crises and providing temporary protection or emergency assistance (as required) through the Community Youth Safety-Net Project. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Welfare operates relevant mental health agencies for individuals of all ages including children and adolescents. Any high-risk students who have been screened through the projects of the Ministry of Education are supported through referrals to the following institutions for appropriate treatment of their symptoms: specialized hospitals, the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center operated by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Youth Healing Center, the Mental Health Welfare Center operated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Suicide Prevention Center, and the Child Welfare Center. To assist students who are facing any psychological difficulties because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education has established a psychiatric support group for providing emergency mental health care; furthermore, schools are promoting psychological surveillance (e.g., provision of non-face-to-face counseling services that are centered around the Wee Center). The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and Ministry of Health and Welfare have provided varied mental health support services in order to address the challenges faced by children and adolescents during the pandemic. Nevertheless, the mental health services operated by each ministry do show some limitations because their service provision system is insufficiently collaborative. The present study discussed the positive effects of each initiative as well as its limitations; furthermore, it suggested improvements for facilitating the healthy development of children and adolescents' mental health.

The focus of this study was finding out the relations among resilience of children separated from parents, child rearing factors and socio-emotional adjustment in Korean and Yanbian Korean-Chinese regions. Subjects were elementary school $5{\sim}6$ graders separated from their parents(184 in Korea and 81 in Yanbian). Data analysis was by Pearson's r, F-test and t-test. Resilience of Korean-Chinese children was higher than that of Korean children. Caregivers' child rearing behavioral factor than other child rearing factors was significant for children's resilience, and especially for Korean children, caregivers' child rearing psychological factor -efficacy and stress variables- were meaningful. Socio-emotional adjustment was significantly different between resilience high and low groups in both regions. Coronavirus will worsen people's mental health disorders and cause new stress-related disorders. Therefore, mental health researchers, clinicians, and people working in trauma-related fields should find ways to reduce the incidence of coronavirus-related trauma stress and prevent its effects. It is necessary to expand the psychological vaccine program to improve the resilience of the public. In Korea, the military has been conducting counseling forthe preemptive detection of psychologically unstable soldiers to prevent unexpected accidents and to help them adapt to military life. However, several soldiers feel anxious about face-to-face counseling with military officers and they have difficulty expressing themselves. Video See-Through HMD is a state-of-the-art mixed reality device that converts the user's real view into a digital view, which leads users to feel the actual situation as the virtual. To validate its usefulness as a new psychological counseling aid, we investigated 11 army soldiers who are under the counseling program in barracks. During the counseling conversation, participants were asked to wear or take off the Video See-Through HMD repeatedly. All conversations were recorded for behavioral observation. As a result, 80% of the soldiers showed a relatively stable state of mind when wearing the Video See-Through HMD, which leads them to be innocent and frank about their concerns. This method could improve the effectiveness of counseling to prevent unexpected accidents caused by unnoticeable psychological instabilities of the clients.
Remarriages constitute an increasing proportion of all marriage in Korea. In 2010, 21.9% of marriage were remarriages for one or both partners. In spite of such increasing of remarriage, not much attentions were given the issues of remarriage in the academic circle of social welfare in Korea. This study is conducted to understand the nature of remarriage, the family structure in remarriage, the relationship between the boundary ambiguity and the family functioning in remarriage. Although boundary ambiguity is believed to be more problematic for remarriage families than first-marriage families and as such has been the topic of research in the U.S.A and other countries, few studies have focused on this topic in Korea. This study examined degree of boundary ambiguity of 125 samples of remerried women and their family functioning. Also, the study examined the relationship between the boundary ambiguity and the family functioning in remarriage. This study conceptualized boundary ambiguity as an incongruence between physical and psychological presence or absence of family members. The findings indicated that the majority of respondents(67.6%) were categorized as having both no psychological and no physical ambiguity. 19.8% of respondents were categorized as having physical ambiguity, 9.9% as having psychological ambiguity, and 2.7% as having both psychological and physical ambiguity. Statistically significant differences of family functioning in remarriage were found among four groups having different type of boundary ambiguity.
The purpose of this study is to understand Korean women in later life by identifying the relationships between providing care for grandchildren and the health of women who aged above 50 years old. Focusing on the longitudinal patterns of providing care of grandchildren and physical and psychological health, this study used data from the second, third, fourth, and fifth waves of Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS) and regression to analyze the data. The following results were found. First, women who stopped providing care for grandchildren were more likely to have higher physical health status in later life than those who providing no care between the second wave to the fourth wave of the KReIS(p < .05). In addition, women who have continuously provided care for grandchildren were more likely to have lower physical health status at marginally significant level. However, there is no significant relationship between providing care for grandchildren and women's psychological health status. The findings of this study suggest that there are the different findings for the relationships between providing care for grandchildren and physical health status and psychological health status based on the longitudinal patterns of providing care of grandchildren. Lastly this paper discusses implications for future researcher and social welfare practitioners.
