  • In the design of structure, the forces acting on tai structure are key parameter fur noise and vibration control. However, in the complex structure, the forces at the injection point on the structure cannot be measured directly. So, it is necessary to find out Indirect force evaluation method. In this paper, forces have been measured with In-situ vibration responses and system information. And, three existing techniques of indirect force measurement, vita. direct inverse. principal component analysis and regularization have been compared. This paper shows that multi-vibration responses are essential for talc precise estimation of the forces. To check these conditions, rotary compressor is adopted as test sample, because it is very difficult to measure the injection forces from internal excitation to shell. It alas also been obtained that relatively higher force is transmitted through three welding paths to the compressor shell. It shows a good agreement between direct and indirect force evaluation with curvature shell and plate.

  • The purpose of the study was to analyze air quality in underground shopping centers using pattern recognition methods. In order to perform this, the concentraion of air pollutants such as $CO, NO_2, NO_x, SO_2$, and particulate matters was measured at the 11 different shopping centers in Seoul metropolitan area and the total of 47 samples were obtained at random based on the size of shopping centers. To introduce a new concept of the "average concentration" for the indoor air quality analyses, the various multivariate statistical analyses have been studied. Thus, a cluster analysis was applied to separate the samples into pseudo-patterns and a disjoint principal component analysis was used to generate homogeneous patterns after removing outliers from the pseudo-patterns. The 6 homogeneous patterns were then obtained as follows:the first pattern was a group of clean sites;the second a group of sites having high dust concentration;the third a group of sites having high dust and $NO_x$ concentration;the fourth a group of sites having low dust and $SO_2$ concentraion and high CO concentration;the fifth a group of sites having high $NO_2 and SO_2$ concentration;and the final a group of miscellaneous sites. Thus, the average concentration could be estimated for each pattern.h pattern.

  • Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, A. ginnala, A. negundo and A. saccharinum were selected as materials for the studies on the seasonal fluctuation of chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rates. In all the four species during the growing season except in October, the principal component that determined the total chlorophyll content was chlorophyll a. Content of chlorophyll b increased with leaf age, but that of chlorophyll a decreased. In contrast to A. saccharinum and A. pseudo-sieboldianum which showed their maximum chlorophyll content in June, A. negundo, which showed the highest chlorophyll content of the four species, exhibited its maximum chlorophyll content in July, whereas September in the case of A. ginnala. The fluctuation of chlorophyll content was similar to that of air temperature, and it increased till July. But chloprophyll content showed a significant relationship in early stage of leaf development, and there could be any interdependence between them in accordance with the seasonal change, no longer. In all four species light compensation points decreased in accordance with the seasonal change, and the maximum photosynthetic rates were obtained in August. Respiratory rates were shown no significant difference among species, and they decreased according to the adbance of season.

  • The Hough transform is the most representative algorithm for a straight line detection based on edge pixels. It shows excellent performance in a simple linear image but requires a considerable amount of computation in a noisy or complex image and has a problem of detecting a pseudo straight line easily. In this paper, we propose a straight line detection algorithm to solve the problem of the conventional Hough transform. The proposed algorithm detects the straight line information of edge pixels by using principal component analysis (PCA) before performing Hough transform and performs the Hough transform of the limited slope area in the valid edge pixels based on the detected straight line information of edge pixels. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the amount of computation as well as eliminates pseudo straight lines.

  • Batch adsorption tests were performed to evaluate the applicability of adsorption kinetic model by using hydrogel chitosan bead crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (HCB-G) for Cu(II) as cation and/or phosphate as anion. Pseudo first and second order model were applied to determine the sorption kinetic property and intraparticle and Boyd equation were used to predict the diffusion of Cu(II) and phosphate at pore and boundary-layer, respectively. According to the value of theoretical and experimental uptake of Cu(II) and phosphate, pseudo second order is more suitable. On comparison with the value of adsorption rate constant (k), phosphate kinetic was 2-4 times faster than that of Cu(II) at any experimental condition indicating the electrostatic interaction between ${NH_3}^+$ and phosphate is dominated at the presence of single component. However, when Cu(II) and phosphate simultaneously exist, the value of k for phosphate was sharply decreased and then the difference was not significant. Both diffusion models confirmed that the sorption rate was controlled by film mass transfer at the beginning time (t < 3 hr) and pore diffusion at next time section (t > 6 hr).

  • In a Hough transform that is a representative algorithm for the straight line detection, a great number of edge pixels generated from noisy or complex images cause enormous amount of computation and pseudo straight lines. This paper proposes a two step straight line detection algorithm to improve the conventional Hough transform. In the first step, the proposed algorithm divides an image into non-overlapping blocks and detects the information related to the straight line of the edge pixels in the block using a principal component analysis (PCA). In the second step, it detects the straight lines by performing the Hough transform limited slope area to the pixels associated with the straight line. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces average of ${\rho}$ computation by 94.6% and prevents the pseudo straight lines although some additional computation is needed.

  • We present images of L1551 IRS5 at angular resolutions as high as ${\~}$30 mas, corresponding to a spatial resolution of ${\~}$5 AU, made at 7 mm with the VLA. Previously known to be a binary protostellar system, we show that L1551 IRS5 is likely a triple protostellar system. The primary and secondary components have a projected separation of ${\~}$46 AU, whereas the tertiary component has a projected separation of ${\~}$11 AU from the primary component. The circumstellar dust disks of the primary and secondary components have dimensions of ${\~}$15 AU, whereas that of the tertiary component has a dimension of ${\~}$10 AU. Their major axes are closely, but not perfectly, aligned with each other, as well as the major axis of the surrounding flattened, rotating, and contracting molecular condensation (pseudodisk). Furthermore, the orbital motion of the primary and secondary components is in the same direction as the rotational motion of this pseudodisk. We suggest that all three protostellar components formed as a result of the fragmentation of the central region of the molecular pseudo disk. The primary and secondary components, but apparently not the tertiary component, each exhibits a bipolar ionized jet that is centered on and which emergers perpendicular to its associated dust disk. Neither jets are resolved along their base, implying that they are driven within a radial distance of ${\~}$2.5 AU from their central protostars. Finally, we show evidence for what may be dusty matter streams feeding the two main protostellar components.

  • In regard to indoor air quality patterns, the government introduced various polices that were about managing and monitoring quality of indoor air as a major assignment, and also executed 'Indoor Air Quality Management Act' which was presented in the May, 2004. However, among the multi-usage facilities controlled by the Act, the school was not included yet. This study goal was to investigate PM 10 pollution patterns of the high school classrooms using a pattern recognition method based on cluster analysis and disjoint principal component analysis, and further to survey levels of inorganic elements in May, June, and September, 2004. A hierarchical clustering method was examined to obtain possible objects in pseudo homogeneous sample classes by transformation raw data and by applying various distance. Following the analysis, the disjoint principal component analysis was used to define homogeneous sample class after deleting outliers. Then three homogeneous Patterns were obtained as follows: the first class had been separated and objects in the class were considered to be sampled under semi-open condition. This class had high concentration of Ca, Fe, Mg, K, Al, and Na which are related with a soil and a chalk compounds. The second class was obtained in which objects were sampled while working air-conditioners and was identified low concentration of PM 10 and elements. Objects in the last class were assigned during rainy day. A chalk, soil element and various types of anthropogenic sources including combustions and industrial influenced the third class. This methodology was thought to be helpful enough to classify indoor air quality patterns and indoor environmental categories when controlling an indoor air quality.

  • Classification on the group of Salix pseudo-lasiogyne growing in Korea, was conducted using cluster analysis, factor analysis, and principal component analysis. Thirty-six characters(Table 2) of the 5 basis species were measured. The phenograms and ordination plot showing the relationships between the species were made by applying the cluster analysis and principal component analysis. Five important factors, such as leaf blade width, number of right serration, angle of leaf apex, number of flowers in an ament, and the ratio of petiole length to width, were inferred from the rotated factor matrix, and their state values were presented in polygonal diagram. Salix pseduo-lasiogyne and S. babylonica were similarly correlated and linked in one group, S. dependens and S. matsudana for tortuosa were secondarily linked in the other group. S. koreensis appeared as an aliemated species from each of the two groups.

  • Seismic random responses due to the wave passage effect are extensively investigated by using the pseudo excitation method (PEM). Two examples are used. The first is very simple but also very informative, while the second is a realistic suspension bridge. Numerical results show that the seismic responses vary significantly with wave speed, especially for low velocity or large span. Such variations are not monotonic, especially for flexible structures. The contributions of the dynamic and quasi-static components depend heavily on the seismic wave velocity and the natural frequencies of structures. For the lower natural frequency cases, the dynamic component has significant effects on the dynamic responses of the structure, whereas the quasi-static component dominates for higher natural frequencies unless the wave speed is also high. It is concluded that if insufficient data on local seismic wave velocity is available, it is advisable to select several possible velocity values in the seismic analysis and to choose the most conservative of the results thus obtained as the basis for design.
