Pseudo-renal Failure Caused by Urinary Bladder Rupture in Multiple Trauma Patient

  • Pseudo-renal failure presents with renal failure characteristics, such as hypercreatininemia and hyperkalemia without a change in glomerular filtration rate or structure of the kidney. Pseudo-renal failure due to trauma is difficult to diagnose, because symptoms are non-specific and other factors may cause hypercreatininemia and hyperkalemia. In a trauma patient, especially one with pelvic injury, the abrupt elevation of potassium, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine levels without previous medical history is a key feature in the diagnosis of urinary ascites. We report a case of pseudo-renal failure caused by intraperitoneal bladder rupture in a multiple trauma patient.

Logit Confidence Intervals Using Pseudo-Bayes Estimators for the Common Odds Ratio in 2 X 2 X K Contingency Tables

  • We investigate logit confidence intervals for the odds ratio based on the delta method. These intervals are constructed using pseudo-Bayes estimators. The Gart method and Agresti method smooth the observed counts toward the model of equiprobability and independence, respectively. We obtain better coverage probability by smoothing the observed counts toward the pseudo-Bayes estimators in 2$\times$2 table. We also improve legit confidence intervals in 2$\times$2$\times$K tables by generalizing these ideas. Utilizing pseudo-Bayes estimators, we obtain better coverage probability by smoothing the observed counts toward the conditional independence model, no three-factor interaction model and saturated model in 2$\times$2$\times$K tables.

  • The energy release rate for an interface crack in pseudo-isotropic dissimilar materials was obtained by the eigenfunction expansion method using the two-term William's type complex stress function. The complex stress function for pseudo-isotropic materials must be different from that for anisotropic materials. The energy release rate for an interface crack in pseudo-isotropic dissimilar materials was analyzed numerically by RWCIM. The results obtained were verified by comparing the other worker's results and discussed.

Pseudo-dynamic approach of seismic earth pressure behind cantilever retaining wall with inclined backfill surface

  • Knowledge of seismic earth pressure against rigid retaining wall is very important. Mononobe-Okabe method is commonly used, which considers pseudo-static approach. In this paper, the pseudo-dynamic method is used to compute the distribution of seismic earth pressure on a rigid cantilever retaining wall supporting dry cohesionless backfill. Planar rupture surface is considered in the analysis. Effect of various parameters like wall friction angle, soil friction angle, shear wave velocity, primary wave velocity, horizontal and vertical seismic accelerations on seismic earth pressure have been studied. Results are presented in terms of tabular and graphical non-dimensional form.

Post-earthquake capacity evaluation of R/C buildings based on pseudo-dynamic tests

  • In this paper, post-earthquake capacity evaluation method of reinforced concrete buildings was studied. Substructure pseudo-dynamic test and static loading test of first story column in a four-story R/C building was carried out in order to investigate the validity of the evaluation method proposed in the Damage Assessment Guideline (JBDPA 2001). In pseudo-dynamic test, different levels of damage were induced in the specimens by pre-loading, and input levels of seismic motion, at which the specimens reached to the ultimate stage, were examined. From the experimental result, no significant difference in damage levels such as residual crack width between the specimens under static and pseudo-dynamic loading was found. It is shown that the seismic capacity reduction factors ${\eta}$ can provide a reasonable estimation of post-earthquake seismic capacity of R/C buildings suffered earthquakes.

ON THE ORDER AND RATE OF CONVERGENCE FOR PSEUDO-SECANT-NEWTON'S METHOD LOCATING A SIMPLE REAL ZERO

  • By combining the classical Newton's method with the pseudo-secant method, pseudo-secant-Newton's method is constructed and its order and rate of convergence are investigated. Given a function $f:\mathbb{R}{\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}$ that has a simple real zero ${\alpha}$ and is sufficiently smooth in a small neighborhood of ${\alpha}$, the convergence behavior is analyzed near ${\alpha}$ for pseudo-secant-Newton's method. The order of convergence is shown to be cubic and the rate of convergence is proven to be $\(\frac{f^{{\prime}{\prime}}(\alpha)}{2f^{\prime}(\alpha)}\)^2$. Numerical experiments show the validity of the theory presented here and are confirmed via high-precision programming in Mathematica.

  • This paper proposes tracking control method using pseudo-backstepping control for wheeled mobile robots with nonholonomic constraints. First, the pseudo commands for forward linear velocity and angular velocity are chosen based on the kinematics. Then, the actual torque control inputs are designed to make the actual forward linear velocity and angular velocity follow the pseudo commands. Both semi-global practical posture(position and heading direction angle) stabilization and trajectory tracking are achieved for reference trajectories such as straight line and sinusoidal curve. The stability and performance analysed and numerical simulations are performed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • It was discussed to identify Thiele Small Parameters for Pseudo loudspeaker within 10mm grade microspeaker attached to closed-box using known dynamic mass of moving parts. Also, enhanced circuit model for vented-box micro speaker system was used to more accurately simulate electrical impedance curves for real vented-box microspeaker system and compared to test results. Consequently, it showed that micro speaker could be modeled by pseudo loudspeaker TS parameters similar to general loudspeaker. Vented-box microspeaker model with pseudo loudspeaker TS parameters was well suited to describe real microspeaker. Also, it was proposed to estimate volume of rear closed-box of microspeaker without design specifications.
