Effect of facial cosmetic containing Prunus persica L. Batsch leaves extract on men's skin condition

  • Today, men's appearance is an important part of the global fashion industry, including Korea, with such fashion concepts as the Metrosexual and Ubersexual. Domestic and overseas beauty and cosmetics related organizations are using this phenomenon for marketing and researching to improve the function of cosmetics. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Prunus persica L. Batsch leaf extract on the skin condition after clinical application to male subjects with oily skin to determine the possibility of functional cosmetics utilizing this extract. The cleansing bars were prepared by the MP method and the cleansing packs were prepared using natural ingredients. After 8 weeks of application, moisture, oil, erythema, melanin, pH, elasticity and tactile sensation were measured using MPA5. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in T-zone moisture and T-zone oil after using the natural cleansing bar, but there was no significant difference between the two groups for other items. However, the statistically significant changes were found in the individual skin condition change items of the subjects in each group, and it was judged that the two kinds of formulations could be used at the same time to have a higher skin improvement effect. Thus, Prunus persica L. Batsch leaf extract demonstrates potential to be used as a functional cosmetics item.

Inhibitory effects of Prunus persica flower extracts on UV-induced skin damage

  • For an attempt to develop safe materials protecting UV-induced skin damage, plant extracts were evaluated for their antioxidative and free radical scavenging activities. From the results of these screening procedures, the ethanol extract of the flowers of Prunus persica was selected for further study. It was found that Prunus persica (50-200 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎖) inhibited UVB-induced DNA damage measured by tail moment in the Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis(COMET assay) and inhibited UV-induced lipid peroxidation, expecially against UVB-induced peroxidation at higher than 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎖. Also P.persica(100∼1,000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎖) inhibited the amount of $\^$14/C-arachidonic acid metabolites release from UVB-irradiated keratinocytes and it possessed the protective activity against UV-induced cytotoxicity of keratinocytes. All these results indicate that the flowers of P. persica extract may be beneficial for protection UV-induced skin damage when topically applied.

효소 처리에 따른 야생복숭아(Prunus persica L.) 당절임액의 품질 특성 및 항산화 효과 (Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Effect of Sugar Preserved Wild Peach (Prunus persica L.) Juice by Enzymatic Treatment)

  • This study was to investigate the effects of enzyme on quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of wild peach (Prunus persica L.) juice. pH levels and S.S (soluble solid) values in all samples ranged from 3.86 to 4.13 and from 48.0 to $55.0^{\circ}Brix$, respectively. The TA (total acidity) values of control (not treatment enzyme) were higher than those of the others. The highest 'L', 'a' and 'b' values were observed on PWP (preserved wild peach (Prunus persica L.) juice of cellulase/pectinase (1:1, w/w) sample. Glucose (26.65 g/100 g) and fructose (17.42 g/100 g) in PWP product were determined, however sucrose and maltose were not detected. The predominating organic acid components analyzed in PWP sample were tartaric (32.36 g/100 g) and lactc acids (209.34 g/100 g), whereas citric acid, acetic acid and malic acid were not detected. Higher scores for taste, flavor, color and overall acceptance were found for PWP products compared to other samples. The total phenolic content (13.31 mg GAE/mg dry weight) analyzed using Folin-Ciocalteu's reagent, of PWP sample was higher than those of the others and the total flavonoid concentrations were also 10.95 mg CE/mg dry weight. The DPPH radical scavenging and ABTS radical scavenging activities in all samples ranged from 55.16 to 74.29% and from 39.59 to 82.79%, respectively. The antioxidant activities were affected by addition of enzyme. These results indicate that the use of the mixture of cellulase and pectinase could increase the quality, and antioxidant potentials of sugar preserved wild peach (Prunus persica L.) juice by enzymatic treatment.

도화(桃花, Prunus persica Flos)의 미백 및 주름개선 효과 (Whitening and Anti-wrinkle Effects of Prunus persica Flos)

  • 도화를 기능성 화장품 소재로 활용하기 위하여 미백 및 주름개선 효과를 검증한 후 화장품 소재로서의 가능성을 검증하였다. 미백효과를 확인하기 위하여 tyrosinase 저해활성을 측정한 결과 도화 열수 및 에탄올 추출물 1,000ppm에서 각각 54.0, 58.3%의 저해활성을 나타내었으며, 멜라노마 세포에서의 tyrosinase 저해활성을 측정한 결과 도화 에탄올 추출물 100ppm에서 40.0%의 저해활성을 나타내였다. 또한 멜라노마 세포에서의 멜라닌 생합성 저해율을 확인한 결과 도화 에탄올 추출물 100ppm에서 56.5%의 효과를 나타내어 도화 에탄올 추출물의 미백효과가 가장 우수하였다. 주름개선 효과 측정으로 elastase 저해활성을 측정한 결과 도화 아세톤 추출물 1,000ppm에서 57.0%의 저해활성을 나타내었으며, collagenase 저해활성을 측정한 결과 도화 아세톤 1,000ppm에서 48.0%의 저해활성을 나타내었다. 또한 섬유아세포를 이용한 collagen 생합성량을 측정한 결과 도화 아세톤 추출물 100ppm에서 41.0%의 효과를 나타내어 도화 아세톤 추출물의 주름개선 효과가 가장 우수하였다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 보아 도화 추출물의 미백 및 주름개선 효과가 있음을 확인할 수 있었고, 기능성 화장품 소재로서의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

올리고당을 활용한 당절임 야생 복숭아의 품질특성과 항산화 효과에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Oligosaccharides on Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Activities of Prunus persica Batsch var. davidiana Max. preserved in Sugar)

  • In order to investigate the quality characteristics of Prunus persica Batsch var. davidiana Max. preserved in sugar, the quality characteristics were examined by dividing them into four groups: PS-A (P. persica preserved in sugar mixed with sucrose and oligosaccharides at a ratio of 100:0, w/w), PS-B (P. persica preserved in sugar mixed with sucrose and oligosaccharides at a ratio of 60:40, w/w), PS-C (P. persica preserved in sugar mixed with sucrose and oligosaccharides at a ratio of 40:60, w/w) and PS-D (P. persica preserved in sugar mixed with sucrose and oligosaccharides at a ratio of 0:100, w/w). The results were as follows: pH levels and soluble solid contents of PS-D sample were lower than those of the others, however total acidity value were higher. In case of Hunter's value, the 'L', 'a' and 'b' values of all samples were affected by addition of oligosaccharides. No great difference occurred among samples in reducing sugar contents. Organic acid content was significantly decreased with the lower addition of sucrose. The predominating organic acid components analyzed in all samples were lactic acid 156.15 g/100 g, tartaric acid 72.75 g/100 g and citric acid 32.90 g/100 g. The highest contents of total phenol and flavonoid, and DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity were $10.79{\pm}0.55mg\;GAE/mL$, $8.71{\pm}0.06mg\;CE/mL$ and 71.8%, 71.0% for PS-D, respectively. The results of this study indicated the use of oligosaccharides could increase the quality and antioxidant potentials of P. persica preserved in sugar.

Protection of the Flowers of Prunus persica Extract from Ultraviolet B-Induced Damage of Normal Human Keratinocytes

  • For an attempt to develop safe materials protecting solar ultraviolet (UV)-induced skin damage, plant extracts were evaluated for their inhibitory activities of free radical generation and arachidonic acid/metabolites release from UVB-irradiated normal human keratinocytes. From the results of these screening procedures, the ethanol extract of the flowers of Prunus persica (Ku-35) was selected for further study. It was found that Ku-35 (100-1,000 ${u}g/m\ell$) inhibited the amount of $^{14}C$-arachidonic acid/metabolites release from UVB-irradiated keratinocytes. It was also demonstrated that Ku-35 possessed the protective activity against UV-induced cytotoxicity of keratinocytes and fibroblasts. In addition, Ku-35 was revealed to protect UVB-induced erythema formation using guinea pigs in preliminary in vivo study. All these results indicate that the flowers of P. persica extract may be beneficial for protecting UV-induced skin damage when topically applied.

복숭아 과실에서 흰가루 증상 및 녹얼룩점 증상을 일으키는 Podosphaera pannosa (Podosphaera pannosa Causes Powdery Mildew and Rusty Spot on Peach Fruits from Korea)

  • 1991년에 우리나라에서 복숭아나무(Prunus persica var. persica) 과실에 흰가루 증상을 일으키는 병원균은 형태적 특징에 의거하여 Podosphaera pannosa로 동정되었다. 복숭아 과실이 P. pannosa에 감염된다는 사실은 일본을 비롯한 여러 나라에서 알려져 왔다. 2011년에 Jankovics 등[11]은 세르비아 및 프랑스에서 채집한 10점의 시료를 연구하여 복숭아 과실의 '녹얼룩점(rusty spot)' 증상은 P. leucotricha에 의한 것이며, 천도(Prunus persica var. nucipersica) 과실의 '흰가루(powdery mildew)' 증상은 P. pannosa에 의한 것이라고 보고하였다. 이에 따라, 한국에서 복숭아 과실에 발생한 흰가루병을 4점 채집하여 형태적 검경 및 분자적 분석을 통해 병원균의 정체를 밝혔다. 3점의 시료는 흰가루 증상, 1점의 시료는 녹얼룩점 증상을 나타냈다. 형태적으로는 4점 모두 P. pannosa로 동정되었다. 분자적으로는 2점의 시료에서 ITS 염기서열을 분석하여 Rosa spp. 유래의 P. pannosa와 99% 이상 상동성을 확인하였다. 그리고 maximum likelihood 방법으로 계통수를 작성한 결과 Rosa spp. 유래의 P. pannosa와 분자계통학적으로 동일한 클러스터에 소속됨을 확인하였다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 한국에서 복숭아 과실의 흰가루 증상과 녹얼룩점 증상은 모두 P. pannosa에 의해 발생됨을 처음으로 보고한다.

  • Reactive oxygen species(ROS) are produced at a high rate continuously as a by-product of aerobic metabolism. Several lines of evidence provided that ROS appears to cause to develop aging and various diseases. High level of hyaluronic acid with decreased molecular weight has been detected in patients with inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis. Hyaluronidase is an endohexosaminidase that initiates the degradation of hyaluronic acid with high molecular weight. Prunus persica Batsch var. davidiana Maximowicz has been known as a korean folk medicine for treatment of neuritis and rheumatism. (omitted)

야생 복숭아나무 추출물의 항산화 및 항염증 효과 (Antioxidant and Antiinflammation Activities of Prunus persica Tree Extracts)

  • 인류의 수명이 연장되고 노령화 사회로 발전됨에 따라 다양한 성인병이 야기되고 있고, 이들 성인병의 원인이 활성산소에 의한 것으로 밝혀짐에 따라 다양한 성인병을 예방 치료할 수 있는 안전하고 우수한 항산화 및 항염증 물질을 천연물로부터 개발하기 위한 연구의 일환으로 자생식물의 하나인 야생복숭아 가지에 대하여 그들의 MeOH 엑스를 필두로 한 분획물 엑스를 대상으로 항산화 및 항염증 효과를 조사하였다. DPPH 법을 사용하여 야생복숭아 가지의 분획물 엑스에 대한 1차 라디칼 소거작용 검색 시험을 한 결과 야생복숭아 가지 의 n-BuOH 엑스와 EtOAc 엑스가 가장 강한 항산화 활성을 나타내었다. 1차 실험에서 얻어진 결과를 토대로 야생복숭아에 대하여 보다 상세한 항산화 효과를 검토하기 위하여 Ferric-Thiocyanate 법을 이용한 지질 과산화 억제작용 시험한 결과 야생복숭아 가지 의 EtOAc 엑스가 천연 항산화제인 tocopherol 및 합성 항산화제인 BHA 보다 우수한 탁월한 항산화 효과를 나타내었고, Rancimat법에 의한 지질 산패 억제 실험을 실시한 결과 또한 야생복숭아 가지의 EtOAc 엑스가 tocopherol보다 우수하고 BHA보다는 약간 우수한 강력한 지질 산패 억제 효과를 보였다. Hyaluronidase 저해에 의한 항염증 효과 시험에서는 항산화 실험에서 전반적으로 우수한 항산화 효과를 보인 야생복숭아 가지의 EtOAc 엑스가 ketoprofen보다는 약하나 ibuprofen과 indomethacin보다는 우수한 항염증 효과를 나타내었다. 이상의 실험 결과는 야생복숭아의 항산화 및 항염증 효과의 활성 주성분 분획은 EtOAc 엑스임을 시사하였다.

Occurrence of Rhizopus Soft Rot on Peach (Prunus persica var. vulgaris) Caused by Rhizopus nigricans in Korea

  • A soft rot of fruits caused by Rhizopus nigricans occurred on peach (Prunus persica var. vulgaris) in The Chinju City Agricultural Products Wholesale Marke during in summer season of 2000. The disease infection usually started from wounding after harvest fruits, and then moved to outside. At first, the lesions started with water soaked and rapidly softened and diseased area gradually expanded. In severely infected film house, the rate of infected fruits reached 65.2%. Numerous sporangiospores were produced on the diseased fruits. Most of the sporangiospores were appeared to be readily dispersed in the air. The mycelia grew surface of fruits and produced stolons. Colonies on potato dextrose agar at $25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ white cottony at first becoming heavily speckled by the presence of sporangia and the browinish black at maturity, spreading rapidly by means of stolons fired at various points to the substrate by rhizoids. Sporangia were $85.3{\sim}243.5{\times}53.4{\sim}219.2\;{\mu}m$ in size and were globose or sub-globose with. somewhat flattened base. The color of sporangia was white at first and then turned black with many spores, and never over-hanging. Sporangiophores were $8.9{\sim}36.6\;{\mu}m$ in width, smooth-walled, non-septate, light brown, simple, long, arising in groups of $3{\sim}5$ from stolons opposite rhizoids. Sporangiospores was $9.7{\sim}24.8{\times}5.9{\sim}15.8\;{\mu}m$, irregular, round, oval, elongate, angular, and browinish-black streaked. Columella was $70.2{\times}149.7{\mu}m$. brownish gray, and umberella-shaped when dehisced. The causal organism was identified as. Rhizopus nigricans Lind on the basis of the morphiogical characteristics of the fungus. Rhizopus soft rot on peach (Prunus persica) caused by the fungi has not been reported in Korea. This is the first report of rhizopus soft rot on peach caused by Rhizopus nigricans in Korea.
