  • The spiral type thin-film inductor performed in high frequency at 2-5[MHz] range is analyzed by 2-dimensional Finite Element Method(2D FEM). The features of micro thin-film inductor have complicated electromagnetic phenomenon such as skin effect, proximity effect and magnetic saturation. To develope miniatured magnetic device considering these features, it is important to predict the property of the thin film inductor according to design parameter. In this paper, we present the 2D FEM analysis for the spiral type thin film inductor. The characteristics of inductor from point of view of inductance, resistance and quality factor are studied according to design parameter and various pattern construction.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the characteristics of maternal social networks on maternal expectation for their own children to examine the path that social networks had an effect on the self-esteem and the emotional intelligence of children through maternal expectation for their own children. The data used in this study were collected from 524 fourth to sixth graders and their mothers residing in Daejeon using structured questionnaire. The major findings of the study were as follows : (1) Among social network characteristics, proportion of friends and neighbors, proximity, direction and interference had a negative effect, and proportion of mothers of child's friends, frequency of contact, intimacy, emotional support, service support had a positive effect on maternal expectation for their own children. (2) Among social network characteristics, proportion of mothers of child's friends had a direct effect and proportion of friends, neighbors, and mothers of child's friends, proximity, frequency of contact, intimacy, direction, emotional support, service support, and interference had an indirect effect on children's emotional intelligence through maternal expectation for their own children. (3) Among social network characteristics, proportion of kin and mothers of child's friends, intimacy, service support, material support and interference had a direct effect, and proportion of neighbors and mothers of child's friends, proximity, frequency of contact, direction, service support had an indirect effect on children's emotional intelligence through maternal expectation for their own children.

  • The findings of ferromagnetic superconductor have attracted much attention not only for fundamental research to investigate how the antagonistic properties of ferromagnetism and superconductivity coexist peacefully but also for potential technological applications. Firstly, in order to help for understanding the ferromagnetic superconductor, I have explained the orbital and paramagnetic pair-breaking effects of magnetic field, which breaks the superconducting Cooper pairs. In addition to such effects of magnetic field, the singlet Cooper pairs become unstable upon going through the ferromagnetic materials by the proximity effect. The proximity effect occurs at the interface of thin films composing of superconductor and ferromagnet and leads to have very short penetration depth of Cooper pairs. However, a type of odd-frequency triplet in comparison with the singlet could be very stable and has a longer effective depth. It needs to be explored for the innovative spintronic devices. Finally, various ferromagnetic superconductors coexist and the lower-dimensional materials under the Quantum confinement effect have been introduced.

  • As the minimum feature size of a semiconductor chip gets smaller, the inevitable distortion of patterned image by optical lithography becomes the limiting factor in the mass production of VLSI. The optical proximity correction (OPC), which corrects pattern distortion that originates from the resolution limit of optical lithography, is becoming indispensable technology. In this paper, we describe a program that corrects optical proximity effect and thus finds the optimum mask pattern with a Monte-Carlo method. The program was applied to real memory cell patterns to produce mask patterns that generate image patterns closer to object images than original mask patterns, and increase of process margin is expected, as well.

  • Concepts of science have been developed by occupying 'ecological niche' within conceptual ecology. The ecological niche is determined from the mutual effect between intellectual environmental of the learner and new concept, which few studies have been conducted. This study examined how the ecological niche of the concept of photosynthesis in $7^{th}$ grade is changed by instruction. The ecological niche was analyzed using 2 methods: (1) the change in the diversity of concepts, and (2) the change in the proximity of concepts based on the frequency and the relativeness score of the concepts. The concept of photosynthesis was analyzed in the 4 domains in the place of photosynthesis, products of photosynthesis, reactants of photosynthesis, and environmental factors. The results of this study are as follows: (1) reduced diversity of concepts, (2) increased frequency and relativeness score of the scientific concepts, and (3) increased proximity of the scientific concepts by instruction. With these results, the mutual effects of the concepts within the conceptual ecology have become active by class to differentiate the relationships between the concepts, which accordingly displayed their changes in status.

  • As the minimum feature size for making ULSI approaches the wavelength of light source in optical lithography, the aerial image is so hardly distorted because of the optical proximity effect that the accurate mask image reconstruction on wafer surface is almost impossible. We applied the Optical Proximity Correction(OPC) on isolated patterns assuming Attenuated Phase Shift Mask(APSM) as well as binary mask, to correct the widening of isolated patterns. In this study, we found that applying OPC to APSM shows much better improvement not only in enhancing the resolution and fidelity of t도 images but also in enhancing the process margin than applying OPC to the binary mask. Also, we propose the OPC method of APSM for isolated patterns, the size of which is less than the wavelength of the ArF excimer laser. Finally, we predicted the resolution limit of optical lithography through the aerial image simulation.

  • It is well known that the hydrodynamic interaction forces between ship and bank wall affect ship manoeuvring motion. This paper deals with the interaction effect acting on a ship navigating closely in the proximity of bank wail. In this paper, the calculation method based on the slender body theory for estimation of the hydrodynamic interaction forces between ship and bank wail is applied. The hydrodynamic interaction forces acting on a ship during passing through the proximity of the bank wail are predicted to evaluate an influence of these interaction forces on ship manoeuvrability. The calculation method used in this paper will be useful for prediction of ship manoeuvrability at the initial stage of design, for automatic control system of ship in confined waterways, for discussion of marine traffic control system and for construction of harbour.

  • Several non-methylotrophic bacteria have been reported to improve the growth and activity of methanotrophs; however, their interactions remain to be elucidated. We investigated the interaction between Methylocystis sp. M6 and Microbacterium sp. NM2. A batch co-culture experiment showed that NM2 markedly increased the biomass and methane removal of M6. qPCR analysis revealed that NM2 enhanced both the growth and methane-monooxygenase gene expression of M6. A fed-batch experiment showed that co-culture was more efficient in removing methane than M6 alone (28.4 vs. $18.8{\mu}mol{\cdot}l^{-1}{\cdot}d^{-1}$), although the biomass levels were similar. A starvation experiment for 21 days showed that M6 population remained stable while NM2 population decreased by 66% in co-culture, but the results were opposite in pure cultures, indicating that M6 may cross-feed growth substrates from NM2. These results indicate that M6 apparently had no negative effect on NM2 when M6 actively proliferated with methane. Interestingly, a batch experiment involving a dialysis membrane indicates that physical proximity between NM2 and M6 is required for such biomass and methane removal enhancement. Collectively, the observed interaction is beneficial to the methanotroph but adversely affects the non-methylotroph; moreover, it requires physical proximity, suggesting a tight association between methanotrophs and non-methylotrophs in natural environments.
