A Numerical Study on the Natural Convection in the L-shaped enclosure having a Protrusion (돌출부를 가진 L형 공간 내에서의 자연대류 열전달)

  • The numerical study on the natural convection inside the L-shaped enclosure having a protrusion of which left wall is maintained at $T_c$. Right wall and part of the bottom and 2nd floor are at $T_h$ has been performed numerically for aspect ratio A=1, geometrically different cases and for $Ra=5{\times}10^5{\sim}2{\times}10^6$. As the L-shaped of the enclosure goes thicker horizontally and the smaller 2nd floor's length, the mean Nusselt number at the left cold wall becomes smaller for same Ra, and there is little influence of the increase of Ra on mean Nusselt number.

  • Testes from the allied rock wallaby(Petrogale assimilus) have been examined by the electron microscopy in thin sections in order to examine spermiogenesis and structure of spermatozoa. The spermiogenesis can be divided into nine stages: early Golgi, late Golgi, collapsing, nuclear protrusion, condensation and flattening, nuclear shaping, rotation, nuclear ring contraction, and maturation. The acrosome has been abruptly formed following the collapse of expanded acrosomal vesicle without the cap stage described in the eutheria. The flatly condensed nucleus rotates obliquely to the axis of the axial filament complex and the folded acrosome covers the anterior third of the dorsal nuclear surface forming a wide subacrosormal space as the nuclear ring has contracted. The Sertoli cell reaction and spur are prominent during the nuclear protrusion and rotation stages. A mature spermatozoon has S-shape head which has an extended part reaching to the vicinity of the middle piece.

  • Out of the defects occurred in a transformer, the cases of protrusion and surface discharge were simulated by using needle-plane and IEC(B) electrode. The waveform and frequency characteristics of ultrasonic signals due to partial discharge occurred at each electrode were analyzed. And then, the ultrasonic signal characteristics from the partial discharge due to the two kinds of defect were compared. As a result, in the case of the protrusion and surface discharge, the waveforms were similar, but the frequency spectra were different.

  • Stick-slip friction is present to some degree in almost all actuators and mechanisms and is often responsible for performance limitations. Simulation of stick-slip friction is difficult because of strongly nonlinear behavior in the vicinity of zero velocity. A straightforward method for representing and simulating friction effects is presented. True zero velocity sticking is represented without equation reformulation or the introduction of numerical stiffness problems. Stick-slip motion is investigated experimentally, and the fundamental characteristics of the stick-slip motion are clarified. Based on these experimental results, the characteristics of static in the period of stick and kinetic friction in the period of slip are studied concretely so as to clarify the stick-slip process.

  • Our Goal of modified segmental osteotomy on maxilla accompanied by mandibular anterior subapical osteotomy was to get the best results from patients of bi-alveolar or bi-maxillary protrusion. In this study, cephalometric and photo (en face, profile) analysis have been compared to define the soft tissue change after surgery. Lip protrusion was efficiently reduced and nasolabial angle was much obtused. Although nose was a little widened, it was quite acceptable. Blood circulation on osteotomized segment was well maintained. This relatively simple methods could be successfully applied to many patients.

A Study on Movements of Mandible on the Mandibular Incisor (하악 절치부에서의 하악운동에 관한 연구)

  • In order to obtain the basic data of movements of the mandible for diagnosis and prgnosis determination of the TMJ dysfunction, the author measured the ranges and shapes of movements of the mandibule in the frontal, sagittal and horizontal trajectory with Saphon Visi-Trainer C-Ⅱ(Tokyo Shizaisha Inc.) in 61 men. The subjects who were undergraduate and graduate students of the School of Dentistry, Seoul Nationa University(SNU) had no pain or symptoms of dysfunction of the masticatory system. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The mean for maximal right and left laterotrusion in the frontal trajectory were 11.3 mm and 10.9mm, respectively and didn't differ significantly. Right and left larero-opening at 15mm, 25mm and 35mm mouth opening respectively didn't differ significantly. Area of border movement of the mandible was 770.33㎟. 2. The mean for maximal protrusion in the sagital trajectory was 10.2mm, antero-posterior deviation between ICP and RCP 1.2mm and angel of maximal protrusion and horizontal plane 20.5。. 3. The mean for right and left laterotrusion is 11.1mm &11.2mm,respectively, and didn't diffef significantly.

External rf plasma treatment effect on multi-wall carbon nanotubes grown inside anodic alumina nanoholes at low deposition temperatures

  • Well-aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were fabricated by utilizing a radio frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (rf-PECVD) system from Ni particles at the bottom of anodic alumina nanoholes (AAN). To remove the amorphous graphite layers on the AAN surface and to eliminate the protrusion of MWNT tips, the AAN surface with MWNTs were treated by external rf plasma source. As a result, the AAN surface almost became flat without having any protrusion of MWNT tips. The diameter, length of MWNTs and AAN were investigated by using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Raman spectroscopy was also used to characterize wall structure of the carbon nanotube. And the emission properties of the MWNTs were measured for the application of field emission display (FED) in near future.

Prebreakdown Phenomena of $SF_{6}$ Gas in a Non-uniform Field Disturbed by a Metallic Protrusion

  • This paper deals with the prebreakdown phenomena of $SF_{6}$ gap stressed by non-oscillating and oscillating impulse voltages in a strong inhomogeneous field disturbed by a fred needle shaped-protrusion on the earth-side electrode. The breakdown voltage-time characteristics were measured for both positive and negative polarities and over the gas pressure range of 0.1∼0.5 MPa, and the temporal developments of the 77breakdown were observed by a shunt of 50 n. The dependence of the leader stopping time on the gas pressure were obtained. The local field enhancement due to the space charges, which is produced by the streamer corona, has influence with the electrical breakdown of the test gap. The test streamer corona is oxy a necessary condition for the electrical breakdown and the subsequent ionization activities launch the leader at the local field region.

  • The paper presents experimental results of Partial Discharge(PD) in Gas Insulated Switchgear(GIS), obtained using a computer-aided PD measurement system. Different discharge sources are simulated and identified. These included internal, interface, surface and protrusion. For internal discharge, it showed symmetrical discharge type between positive and negative cycle. Interface discharge showed smaller number and higher peak than internal discharge but symmetrical discharge as well. For surface discharge, it showed small number and high peak in positive half cycle but large number and low peak in negative half cycle. For protrusion discharge, small number and high peak of discharge were shown only in negative half cycle.

  • The use of aluminum alloy has been interested in the automotive industry, because of its specific strength. And hollow extruded billet is more attractive than solid extruded billet but its forming application has to be precisely processed to satisfy the product quality. In this research, the process design of forming of control arm for the vehicle was studied by press bending process with hollow extruded billet. The middle protrusion portions and the middle cylindrical cup were processed separately according to the analysis. It was concluded that a useful sequence is to bend the side flange and the middle protrusion portions firstly, and then to form the middle cylindrical cup.
