  • In this study, a smart motor control and monitoring system is developed with an embedded board where Intel PXA255B CPU is mounted. Linux is ported into the embedded board as RTOS(Real Time Operating System), and the environment which communicate with a motor driver through serial protocol and is capable of controlling and monitoring the motor in real time is built in the system. A user friendly GUI is developed for the convenient operation of the system. Also, the environment which is able to control and monitor the motor driver remotely is built in the system using TCP/IP protocol.

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a reference model of a fire detection and monitoring system using MS/TP protocol. The reference model is designed to satisfy the requirements of response time and flexibility. The reference model is operated on the basis of BACnet, a standard communication protocol for building automation systems. Validity of the reference model was examined using a simulation model. This study also evaluated the performance of the BACnet-based fire detection and monitoring system in terms of network-induced delay. Simulation results show that the reference model satisfies the requirements of the fire detection and monitoring system.

  • Smart device has become an affordable main computing resource for robotic ap-plications in accordance with a fast growth of mobile internet environment. Since the computing power of smart device has been increased, smart device based ro-bot system attempts to replace traditional robot applications with laptop-based system. Methodologies for acquisition of remote sensory information and control of various types of robots using smart device have been proposed recently. In this paper, we propose a robot control system using a monitoring program and a communication protocol. The proposed system is a combination of an educa-tional programming oriented robot named EPOR-S. as small service robot plat-form and a smart device. Through a simulation study using image processing, the feasibility of combination of the proposed robot monitoring program and control system was verified.

  • In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation of Information exchange technique among power system facilities and/or their monitoring systems based on Universal Description, Discovery and Integration Service and Simple Object Access Protocol. The rapid progresses in high speed network, 4G web language S/W and embedded H/W enabled faster and easier communications among electric power systems monitoring facilities. However, each facility or system has its own specific protocol like RS-232 and RS-486, which somewhat limits the capability of flexible information exchange among thor In this paper, we try to demonstrate the potential of utilizing the SOAP and UDDI services in exchanging the metadata and possibly high abstraction level informations among electric power facilities and/or their monitoring systems.

  • In this paper, the FPGA-based SoC board (Xilinx Virtex-4 ML401 EVM) is adopted to control electrical power inverter system. For marine application, its performance is shown on PC-based system for monitoring electrical characteristics of a power inverter using by the NMEA 2000 protocol. This power inverter system is achieved in Real-Time monitoring and control by dual micro-processor operation on embedded FPGA-based SoC board. One micro processor is for control (Control processor) electrical power inverter using by PWM signal. And the other microprocessor (Communication processor) is for communication with PC-based monitoring system. The two-processor is communicating each other using by dual-port ram (DPRAM). PC-based system user can control and monitor information of the electrical power inverter via NMEA 2000 based communication processor. Control and monitoring information includes the inverter status and configuration. SoC board converts this information to Parameter Group Numbers (PGNs) in the NMEA 2000 protocol. This system can be applied to marine power electronics for distributed power generation, transmission or regulation systems on the ship.

  • Local monitoring is an effective technique in securing data of wireless sensor networks. Existing solutions require high communication cost for detecting false data and this results in a network lifetime being shortened. This paper proposes novel techniques of monitoring based secure data aggregation and filtering false data in wireless sensor networks. The aim is to reduce energy consumption in securing data aggregation. An aggregator and its monitoring node perform data aggregation in a 60o sextant cluster. By checking Message Authentication Codes (MAC), aggregation data will be dropped by a forward aggregator if data aggregated by the aggregator and data monitored by the monitoring node are inconsistent. The simulation shows that the proposed protocol can reduce the amount of average energy consumption about 64% when comparing with the Data Aggregation and Authentication protocol (DAA)[1]. Additionally, the network lifetime of the proposed protocol is 283% longer than that of DAA without any decline in data integrity.
