We design a control circuit that can switch input power between a rechargeable battery and a sensor communication device (mote) depending on the operating state of a solar cell as well as the active and sleep mode of a sensor MAC protocol. A mote that simply combines a solarcell and a rechargeable battery may die if there is not sunlight long. A battery is recharged if sunlight is sufficient and a device is in a sleep mode, and it supplies power if sunlight is low and the mote is in an active mode. A mote can switch its input power between solar cell and battery depending on the output level of a solar cell. During this switching, a mote may lose its state information due to the reset of a microprocessor by the transient power-off. A capacitor is used to cope with this phenomenon and also supplies power to a mote during a sleep mode. Experimental results show that the solar cell based mote operates in a very stable manner against the lack of sunlight long.

As developing of the internet and computer technology, more interests are gathered to the conference service which provides capability of multi-party real-time visual conference. In this paper, we have designed and implemented a SIP-based visual conference system which includes Presence service. The elements of this conference system are user system, which has conference UA(User Agent) capability, presence seuer and conference server. For the presence service, we have adapted publication method which uses SIP PUBLISH message, and with this service various status informations of users are easily acquired. Also invitations and involvements to the conference are easily made through this service. For the conference server which controls establishment and management of multi-party connections, we have included conference event package. This package provides dynamically changing conference informations and users informations through SIP subscription and notification functions.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to develop the qualification system for training of Quality improvement professionals who work for improving patients' safety and healthcare quality. Methods : Based on the various laws and regulations, and the operational status of other professionals' qualification systems, a basic plan of professional qualification system of QI was drawn. And through meetings with QI experts, the final scheme of the concrete qualification system was developed. Results : For management of professionals's certification or qualification, fairness and reliability are important. To do this, setting the official standard, providing a standardized training program and having appropriate qualification test are required. In order to operate the qualification system strategically, 1) the introduction step, 2) dissemination and expansion step, and 3) fusing step should be considered. As a governing body for QI specialists' qualification, 'QI professionals' qualification Center (tentative)' must have the committee to assure fairness, professionalism, and reliability. In addition, 'QI Experts Certification Department (tentative)" to develop standards for the qualification tests and conduct the tests program,' QI experts Education Department (tentative name)" must be able to operate and maintain the QI training for professional qualifications. QI professional qualification exam must be taken by everyone regardless of age, gender, race, occupation, education, and work experience. The examination should include management, leadership, strategic planning and design, quality management, health care information, patient safety culture. Practical training courses can have three step programs; beginning, intermediate and special level. Conclusion : The QI qualification system need strategic approaches for the experts working for healthcare quality improvement and patient safety. It should include the program of standardized contents and test, and operating protocol of the qualificaton system.

Recently the interest in digital home services and its related technology has increased rapidly. Multimedia data transmission between digital devices that are connected to home network is essential function. This paper presents the design and implementation of multimedia streaming system based on IEEE1394 in Linux environment. The key features of proposed system are as follows. First, it can transmit and receive not only DV format data but also MPEG2-TS format data through IEEE1394 bus. Second, it uses device drivers that handling IEEE1394 and IEC61883 protocol transparently to reduce the complexity of communication program. Third, it applied capacity adaptation technique considering various specifications of PCs to get smooth streaming for HD data. These characteristics are tested on testbed of IEEE1394 based home network. The proposed media streaming technique can be used as a home media sever in Linux environment.

Within a context of rapid technological change and shifting market conditions, the education environment requires new paradigm of education delivery In accordance of such a technological progress, distance education system, which makes the loaming take place at anytime anywhere, overcoming barriers of time, or distance, is emerging as a mainstream of education delivery replacing the convectional one way delivery system from instructor to learners. This Paper aims to introduce the development principle and algorithm about Instructional System Design(ISD) module, a part of a total solution for distance education services. It was developed on Linux, a free Unix-type operating system. Linux supports so various network protocols, sharing the network resources in a smooth way, that it is able to integrate with other operating system very easily, especially with Windows NT or Windows 2000 servers. In terms of quality, it never falls behind the windows products which are commercially available only, It is a right operating system for the such a school environment that is usually limited in budgets. The development environment of the distance education solution to which ISD module belongs is composing of Apache server for web server, Java bean based on components for ISD module, PHP, server-side scripting language, for HTML documents and MySQL for DBMS.

The soundscape is a novel attempt to offer comfortable sound environments at the urban public spaces by adding pleasant sounds and removing unagreeable ones. Most important factors to be considered therein are to determine what kind of sounds to offer and how to adjust them to the changing circumstances. But nowadays, the audio system provided in the almost every urban public spaces is just only a PA system with CD player or radio broadcasting music, the provided sound is only intended by the operator. Furthermore, providing the soundscape which fits to the situation and the atmospheric conditions needs enormous effort and time, it is almost impossible with the existing PA systems which installed in the public spaces nowadays. Thus, the new sounds cape reproduction system was developed on the basis of the prior VAFSS(Virtual Acoustic Field Simulation System) systems, which has the artificial intelligence to read out the mood of the field and select the appropriate soundscape to reproduce. In this new system, various environmental sensors with standard voltage, current or resistance output are available simultaneously, and the monitoring with video and sound became available via the TCP/IP communication protocol. The update and control of this system can be very convenient, so the money, time and the effort of maintaining and providing soundscape on the public spaces can be enormously saved. This new soundscape reproducing system was named as Virtual Acoustic Field Simulation System II (V AFSS II).

A routing policy based on BGP community routing permits to select a specific route for particular network by making use of user-defined routing policies. Especially, community based routing policy is recently getting a great concern to enhance overall performance in the global research networks which are generally inter-connected large number of different characterized networks. In this paper, we analyze the community routing which has been applied in existing global research networks in the network performance point of view, and catch hold of problems caused by the routing performance in a new global research network. Then, we suggest an effective community routing policy model along with an interconnection architecture of research networks, in order to make correct some wrong routings and resolve an asymmetric routing problem, for a new global research network. Our work is expected to be utilized as an enabling base technology to improve the network performance of future global research networks as well as commercial networks.

This study is to develop the operation models collection and preservation of serials only distributed online. In order to identify all of the requisite items for collection and preservation of the online serials, it conducts Delphi Technique researches with panels of experts from public institutions, organizations, and research institutions. It also deduces the 68 necessary detailed items to develop the operation models for preserving the online serials, and suggests 57 detailed items selected from the compatibility analysis with the investigation and examination of compatibility and urgency. It suggests the automated collection plan of contents with the application of RSS technology of transfer protocol to provide users the updated information from the sites where the contents and data have been constantly and frequently updated. This study strives to design the collection and preservation processes suitable for the online serials.

국내의 ATM 기술은 대부분 교환기 시스템 개발에 집중되어 있었고 최근에는ATM 서비스 분야에 대한 개발 요구가 있다. 이러한 가운데 Internet 서비스는 데이타 망의 기본 서비스로 자리잡았으며, ATM망도 기본적으로 Internet 서비스를 지원하여야 한다. IETF의 IPOA (Classical IP and ARP over ATM)는 국내 망 여건 및 구현의 용이성으로 Internet 서비스를 위한 프로토콜중 가장 선호 대상이지만 RFC사양의 허술함, 구현자의 사양에 대한 이해 부족과 초기 외산 장비 제조 업체들의 자체 사양때문에 기존의 IPOA장비들과 상호 운용 시험에서 후발 IPOA 개발자는 시행착오를 겪어야만 한다. 본 논문에서는 기존 외산 IPOA 장비들과 자체 개발한 장비와 상호 운용 시험을 수행하면서 겪은 사례 연구를 정리하였고 이를 기초로 기존의 외산 IPOA와 상호 운용할 수 있는 최종 요구 사항을 제시하였다. 본 논문을 기초로 IPOA 장비를 개발한다면 국내 후발 ATM 장비 업체는 개발의 시간 및 노력을 줄일 수 있고 향후 IP/ATM 국내 기술력 향상에 도움이 될 것이다.Abstract While we have been focusing on development of ATM switching systems, recently the demand on service by use of ATM switching system is increasing rapidly. Among various ATM services, the Internet service should be provided in an ATM network since the Internet service has been the basic data service. Many domestic engineers consider the classical IP and ARP over ATM (IPOA) to be an appropriate method for interworking of IP and ATM because the IP is the network protocol used in most domestic data networks, and the IPOA is simpler and has less overhead than other approaches. However, it is not easy for a developer to implement the IPOA function module interoperable with other existing ones due to the incomplete description of IETF's RFC specifications, misunderstanding of designer and/or developer, and incompatible vendors' specifications. In this paper, we show several case studies undertaken for interoperability tests of IPOA products between our product and other vendor's products, and discuss the implementation requirement of the IPOA software to be interoperable with the existing IPOA equipment.The design and implementation requirements presented in this paper will reduce the effort of IPOA-developing engineers and time required for interoperability test. Also, this contribution will be helpful in IP/ATM interworking areas.

Delay estimation is a difficult Problem in computer networks. Accurate one-way delay estimation is crucial because it serves a very important role in network performance and thus application design. RTT(Round Trip Time) is often used as an approximation of the delay, but because it is a sum of the forward and reverse delays, the actual one-way delay cannot be estimated accurately from RTT. To estimate one-way delay accurately, this paper proposes a new scheme that analytically derives one-way delay, forward and reverse delay respectively. We show that the performance of TCP can improve dramatically in asymmetric networks using our scheme. A key contribution of this paper is that our one-way deiay estimation is much more accurate than RTT estimation so that TCP can quickly find the network capacity in the slow start phase. Since RTT is the sum of the forward and reverse delays, our scheme can be applied to any protocol that is based on RTT.
