대형 발전기 주보호를 위한 디지털 비율차동 계전기법 (Digital Ratio Differential Relaying for Main Protection of Large Generator)

  • An AC generator is an important component in producing an electric power and so it requires highly reliable protection relays to minimize the possibility of demage occurring under fault conditions. It is a need for research of digital generator protection system(DGPS) for the next-generation ECMS and an efficient operation of protection control system in power station. However, most of protection and control system used in power plants have been still imported as turn-key and operated in domestic. This may cause the lack of the correct understanding on the protection systems and methods, and thus have difficulties in optimal operation. In this paper, presented ratio differential relaying(RDR) is main protective element in generator protection IED. The fault detection technique, operation zone and setting value of the RDR were studied and, compared with two of the fault detection algorithm. For evaluation performance of the RDR, the data obtained from ATPDraw5.7p4 modeling was used. The proposed methods are shown to be able to rapidly identify internal fault and did not operate a miss-operation for all the external fault.

  • This paper proposes a new Fourier transform-based phasor estimation method to eliminate the adverse influence of the exponentially decaying dc offsets when Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is used to calculate the phasor of the fundamental frequency component in a relaying signal. By subtracting the result of odd-sample-set DFT from the result of even-sample-set DFT, the information of dc offsets can be obtained. Two dc offsets in a relaying signal are treated as one dc offset which is piecewise approximated in one cycle data window. The effect of the dc offsets can be eliminated by the approximated dc offset. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by using computer-simulated signals and EMTP-generated signals. The algorithm is also tested on a hardware board with TMS320C32 microprocessor. The evaluation results indicate that the proposed algorithm has the stable and accurate eliminating performance even if the input signal contains two decaying dc components having different time constants.

  • In this paper, an over-current relay algorithm module for a network-based protective relay simulator is proposed. The proposed protective simulator is based on the client-sever paradigm. The module composed of a server and user interface provides a network-based simulation environment.

  • In recent years, a lot of research was done for earth fault protection in ungrounded dc power supply system. As a result, selective-breaking integrated protective relaying system is developed in progress and is currently field-testing are planned. Algorithm on a PC using PSCAD done a lot of testing before performing field tests, but in this study developed algorithms and functions needed to determine whether they were operating normally. Therefore, simulated system is similar to the actual situation was required and made. selective-breaking algorithm verification and validation was performed with simulator.

  • It is very important to study the protective relaying system from the viewpoint of technical analysis to apply superconducting power devices to real power systems. In this paper, we developed Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) analysis model using Real Time Digital Simulator(RTDS) for protective relay tests in power system with SFCLs. The RTDS model has the operation mechanism of a real SFCL system.

It is a need for research of AC generator protection relay for the next-generation ECMS and an efficient operation of protection control system. In this paper, over-excitation protection relaying is one of the protective factors in generator protection IED was presented. The cause and protection principles were dealt and, DFT-based gain compensation algorithm was adopted for the frequency measurement. The Republic of Korea 345kV modeling data by EMTP-RV was used for performance evaluation.

  • The zone 3 elements of distance relays play an important role during the propagation of cascaded events. The most challenging problem to mitigate catastrophic failures is to distinguish between actual faults with line flow transfer from other disconnected lines. This paper presents an adaptive protective relaying scheme based on Line Outage Distribution Factor(LODF) and Generation Shift Factor(GSF) to prevent zone 3 tripping during the cascaded events. Internet based secure peer to peer communication is recommended as a communication method of proposed scheme. Several communication issues such as reliability, speed and cyber security are discussed. In order to establish the feasibility of the proposed scheme, computer simulations for a six bus system has been performed.

  • This paper presents an apparent impedance calculation procedure for distance relaying of transmission line involving FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices, particularly the UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller), between Kangjin and Jangheung in Korea. With the changes of UPFC's parameters, the measurement and protective range (trip boundaries) of the adaptive distance relay can also be changed. So, it is the most important part in the field of system protection to analyze the operating characteristic of relaying system. The presence of UPFC significantly affects the trip boundaries which are also adversely affected by fault resistance combined with remote end infeed. This paper presents the apparent impedance calculations and the distance relay setting characteristics for faults involving the UPFC in the KEPCO system.

신경회로망을 이용한 과도파형의 기본파성분 추출에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Extraction of Fundamental Frequency Components in the Transient Wave Signals Using Artificial neural networks)

  • This paper presents a filtering method using neural networks to extract fundamental frequency components of the transient wave signals in power systems. Based on the ability of multilayer feedforward neural networks to approximate any continuous function, a neural networks mapping filter is proposed for the protective distance relaying systems to extract the effective components efficiently. A characteristic feature of this mapping filter is composed of the multilayer perceptron neural networks which are trained by using random signals and those are mapped to the DFT filtering computational structure by GDR(Generalized Delta Rule). The advantage of this approach is demonstrated by the random waves and the fault transient wave signals of EMTP(electromagnetic transients program) in power systems fault conditions. The proposed method is compared with the conventional method and the simulation results show the efficiency of the neural networks.

  • Simulation methods using EMTP to analyze power transformer transient characteristics and their interesting results are presented in this paper. Because of the transformer saturation including initial inrush, the conventional current differential relay with harmonic restraint module does not provide a clear distinction between internal faults and other conditions. Providing the bases to develop a new relaying concept for power transformer protection, transformer nonlinear transient characteristics are analyzed.
