A Protection Technique Against the Damages Caused by Lightning Surges on Information and Communication Facilities

  • The AC power lines and signal lines of info-communication networks are routed on overhead poles and are highly exposed to lightning strikes. Due to the potential difference between grounding points of AC power lines and signal lines, the electronic equipments connected to the signal lines can easily be damaged by lightning surges. In this work, in order to develop reliable methods of protecting information and communication facilities from lightning surges, the reliability and performance of SPDs (surge protective devices) were experimentally investigated in an actual-sized test circuit. The behaviors of SPDs against lightning surges from AC power lines and signal lines and the coordinated effects of SPD installation methods were evaluated. As a consequence, it was confirmed that the bypass arrester methods and common grounding system are both highly effective.

  • The protective relay setting of transmission systems has to consider various factors such as the protrected device, relay type and system conditions and it requires the empirical knowledge of experts. In this study. The setting rules have been accumulated in Oracle DB and its inference scheme has been devised. Their applications to relay setting system are expected to refine the setting knowledge enhancing the accuracy and consistency of the relay setting.

  • In this paper, an intelligent fault location and diagnosis system is proposed. The proposed system identifies the fault location in two-step procedure. The first step identifies candidates of fault location using an fault distance calculation using an iterative method. The second step is diagnosis the actual fault location in the candidates by comparing the current waveform patterns with the expected operation of the protective devices and considering the interrupted load after the operation protective device. The simulations results in the case study demonstrates a good performance of the proposed fault location and diagnosis system.

  • Arresters are the best protective device on electrical power systems against transient overvoltages generated by lightning and/or switching operation. Nonetheless, arresters are deteriorated by absorption of moisture in the environments of its use, repetition in the protective operation to overvoltages, and some defects at manufacturing. It is therefore important to estimate the electrical characteristic changes of ZnO blocks. In this paper, an accelerated ageing test by a standard lightning impulse current was carried out to extract parameters needed for arrester diagnosis, and leakage current components were measured. Total energy applied to the ZnO blocks at each time is about 1,050[J] in 8/20[${\mu}\textrm{s}$] impulse current. From the experimental results, we proposed electrical parameters and leakage current level to diagnose arrester soundness.

  • In this study, we developed transdermal direct drug delivery device using micro-needle painlessly. We has fabricated micro-needle that is 130 ${\mu}m$ thickness and 250 ${\mu}m$length with 10 ${\mu}m$ spiral groove for rolling down drug. Head part of micro-needle device is composed of 20ea micro-needles, an on-off valve and a protective cap. Glass bottle for containing drug is connected to head part of micro-needle device. We examined the puncture characteristic testing using porcine skin and drug delivery testing using porcine, rat skin with Indian Ink.

  • 정보통신망 신호선로는 전원선과 더불어 가공선로로 구성되어 있어 뇌서지에 대한 노출이 심각하다. 전원선로의 접지와 통신선로 접지 상호간에 나타나는 전위차로 인하여 통신선에 접속된 전자장비는 뇌서지에 의해 쉽게 손상될 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 뇌서지로부터 정보통신설비를 신뢰성 높게 보호하는 기법을 개발할 목적으로 실규모 회로에서 서지보호장치의 성능과 신뢰성에 대한 실증실험을 수행하였다. 전원선과 통신선을 통하여 입사한 뇌서지 에 대한 서지보호장치의 동작특성과 보호장치의 설치방법이 뇌서지 보호효과에 미치는 협조특성을 평가하였다. 그 결과 정보통신설비용 뇌서지 보호장치를 바이패스 어레스터를 이용한 공통접지법으로 설치하는 것이 매우 효과적임을 확인하였다.

  • 고도 정보화 사회의 발달과 함께 정보통신 설비는 빠른 전송속도를 필요로 하며, 지능형 산업설비와 행정, 금융, 교통시스템과 같은 사회시스템은 집적회로와 초소형 반도체로 구성되므로 원격감시, 조작에 의해 점차적으로 자동화 되어가고 있다. 이와 같은 현대의 초소형 전자회로는 뇌 서지에 의해 흔히 손상을 입을 수 있으며, 뇌 과전압으로부터 전자회로의 보호에 관심이 집중되고 있다. 본 논문은 일반주택에서 뇌 서지로부터 초소형 컴퓨터와 같은 전자기기의 효과적인 보호방법을 제안하기 위하여 전원계통의 접지방식에 따른 서지보호기의 보호효과를 실험적으로 분석하였다. 또한 서지보호기의 효과적인 설치방법을 조사하고 제안하였다. 기존의 설비에 추가적으로 서지보호기를 설치하는 것은 서지보호기까지의 긴 접속선으로 인한 인덕턴스 때문에 높은 잔류전압이 나타난다. 서지보호기의 설치에 있어 두 접속선을 꼬는 방법이 급격하게 상승하는 과도과전압에 매우 효과적이다.

  • Plasma displays (PDP) as a large area wall-hanging display device are rabidly developed with flat CRT, TPT LCD and etc. Especially, AC Plasma Display Panels(AC PDPs) have the inherent memory function which is effective for large area displays. The memory function in AC PDPs is caused by the accumulation of the electrical charge on the protecting layer formed on the dielectric layer. This MgO protective layer prevents the dielectric layer from sputtering by ion in discharge plasma and also has the additional important roll in lowering the firing voltage due to the large secondary electron emission coefficient). Until now, the MgO Protective layer is mainly formed by E-Beam evaporation. With increasing the panel size, this process is difficult to attain cost reduction, and are not suitable for large quantity of production. To the contrary, the methode of shuttering are easy to apply on mass production and to enlarge the size of the panel and shows the superior adhesion and uniformity of thin film. In this study, we have prepared MgO protective layer on AC PDP Cell by reactive magnetron sputtering and studied the effect of MgO layer on the surface discharge characteristics of ac PDP.

  • For settlement of safety supervision and prevention agains industry's accident, first, it needs to design and manufacture for safety of machines and tools, second, it must safety foundation of machines and tolls and sticking of safety facilities, third, it must be wear of protective device in operations. Then it needs to fit countermeasure founding and continuous safety education and itself inspection control that analysis and study the point at issue of safety.
