The Oxidation of CrN Films Arc-ion Plated on a Steel Substrate (강 기판위에 아크이온 플레이팅된 CrN박막의 산화)

  • CrN films were deposited onto STD61 steel substrates using an arc-ion plating apparatus, with and without ion-nitriding pretreatment, and their oxidation was studied between 700 and $900^{\circ}C$ for 40hr in air. The oxidation behavior was examined by thermogravimetric analyses, X-ray diffraction. EDS and SEM. The deposited CrN films consisted of CrN and $Cr_2$N phases. The CrN films increased the oxidation resistance of the substrate by forming a protective $Cr_2$$O_3$ layer. The ion-nitriding pretreatment has not affected the oxidation resistance of the CrN film.

A Study on the Lifetime Characteristics of AC-PDP as a Parameter of MgO Preparation (MgO 증착 변수에 따른 AC-PDP의 수명 특성 연구)

  • In order to be good display, the ac PDP lifetime should be guaranteed over 30000 hours. Therefore, to satisfy these demands, it is need to find out main factors in ac PDP affecting the lifetime. In this paper, the characteristics of lifetime as a parameter of the MgO deposition rate conditions is investigated. MgO protective layers is fabricated by E-beam. Before measuring the lifetime we have carefully peformed high temperature evacuation and aging procedure, which is essential for providing the initial condition of our experiment. If MgO deposition rate increased, MgO film becomes dense and an adhesive power of MgO film gets better and because occurrence rate of the MgO cluster decreases, lifetime of MgO will be improved. As a result, ac PDP lifetime can be improved due to the improvement of MgO by MgO preparation conditions.

Improvement of Electrochemical Properties and Thermal Stability of a Ni-rich Cathode Material by Polypropylene Coating

  • The interface between the surface of a cathode material and the electrolyte gives rise to surface reactions such as solid electrolyte interface (SEI) and chemical side reactions. These reactions lead to increased surface resistance and charge transfer resistance. It is consequently necessary to improve the electrochemical characteristics by suppressing these reactions. In order to suppress unnecessary surface reactions, we coated cathode material using polypropylene (PP). The PP coating layer effectively reduced the SEI film that is generated after a 4.3 V initial charging process. By mitigating the formation of the SEI film, the PP-coated Li[(Ni0.6Co0.1Mn0.3)0.36(Ni0.80Co0.15Al0.05)0.64)]O2(NCS) electrode provided enhanced transport of Li+ ions due to reduced SEI resistance (RSEI) and charge transfer resistance (Rct). The initial charge and discharge efficiency of the PP-coated NCS electrode was 96.2 % at a current density of 17 mA/g in a voltage range of 3.0 ~ 4.3 V, whereas the efficiency of the NCS electrode was only 94.7 %. The presence of the protective PP layer on the cathode improved the thermal stability by reducing the generated heat, and this was confirmed via DSC analysis by an increased exothermic peak.

  • A Study on the effect of the additives in lubricating oil was investigated on the basis of the thermal activated wear theory in terms of their wear behaviours, using four ballwear machine. The sample oils, which included diethyl-3, 5-di-t-butyi-4-hydroxy-benzyl phosphonate (DEP), ZDDP and TCP additives respectively, showed distinct wear characteristics depending upon the bulk oil temperature and the sliding velocity. The newly synthesized additive, viz., DEP showed excellent antiwear performance cornpared with the conventional additives, ZDDP and TCP. On the basis of the experimental results, it is reduced that the wear mechanism of the conventional additives, viz., ZDDP and TCP is the protective film formation and their antiwear capability is depending upon the shearing strength of the film formed. On the other hand, the new additive, DEP showed that the secondary activation energy was much eliminated and so, the thermal instability was reduced by the hydrogen scavenging reaction of the new additive, which was virtually an endothermic reaction process.In conclusion, a new concept of antiwear mechanism is estabilished and testified. And new chemical, which showed the function of hydrogen and free radical scavenging role, is synthesized and introduced as the new, highly antiwear effective lubricating oil additive.

완전화 박막의 구현을 위한 기술적 과제와 도전

  • 완전화 박막이란 사용자가 원하는 용도에 맞게 최적의 성능을 구현하도록 제조된 박막을 의미하며 금속이나 화합물 박막을 제조하되 각종 구조 제어 Tool이나 증착 공정을 변화시켜 나노화와 다층화 또는 치밀화를 통해 구현될 수 있다. 최근 고성능의 증착 및 제어 Tool이 개발되고 빗각증착(Oblique Angle Deposition)이나 스침각 증착(Glancing Angle Deposition) 방법 등의 기술이 개발되면서 사용자 목적에 최적인 박막 소재를 제공하여 User-friendly한 응용을 위한 연구개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 완전화 박막 제조에 대한 시도는 1990년대에 일본에서 시작되었다. 일본에서는 산학연이 공동으로 참여하는 NEDO 프로그램을 통해 경질코팅을 이용한 Protective Layer를 제조하여 차단 방식에 의한 내식성 구현 연구를 수행하였다. 유럽에서는 제 7차 European Framework Program (7th FT)을 통해 2007년부터 CORRAL (Corrosion Protection with Perfect Atomic Layer) 프로젝트를 만들어 완전화 박막 연구를 진행하고 있다. 상기 프로젝트는 얇은 자연 산화막이 Bulk의 부식을 방지해주는 것에 착안하여 HIPIMS나 Filtered Arc 또는 ALD 공정을 이용하여 자연 산화막과 유사한 Defect-free 산화막을 제조하여 Barrier형 내식성 박막을 구현하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 완전화 박막 구현을 위한 연구동향을 파악하고 완전화 박막 제조를 위한 기술적 과제와 몇 가지의 시도에 대한 기초 연구 자료를 소개한다.

Effect of FTO coated on stainless steel bipolar plate for PEM fuel cells

  • A polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been getting large interest as a typical issue in useful applications. The PEMFC is composed of a membrane, catalyst and the bipolar plate. SnOx:F films on SUS316 stainless steel were prepared as a function of substrate with using electron cyclotron resonance-metal organic chemical vapor deposition (ECR-MOCVD) in order to achieve the corrosion-resistant and low contact resistance bipolar plates for PEM fuel cells. The SnOx:F films coated on SUS316 substrate at surface plasma treatment for excellent stability, before/after heat treatment for good crystalline structure and microwave power for were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), auger electron microscopy (AES) and field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The SnOx:F film coated on SUS316 substrate with various process parameters were able to observe optimum interfacial contact resistance (ICR) and corrosion resistance. It can be concluded that fluorine-doping content plays an important function in electrical property and characteristic of corrosion-protective film.

High-temperature Corrosion of CrAlSiN Films in Ar/1%SO2 Gas

  • Nano-multilayered $Cr_{25.2}Al_{19.5}Si_{4.7}N_{50.5}$ films were deposited on the steel substrate by cathodic arc plasma deposition. They were corroded at $900^{\circ}C$ in $Ar/1%SO_2$ gas in order to study their corrosion behavior in sulfidizing/oxidizing environments. Despite the presence of sulfur in the gaseous environment, the corrosion was governed by oxidation, leading to formation of protective oxides such as $Cr_2O_3$ and ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, where Si was dissolved. Iron diffused outward from the substrate to the film surface, and oxidized to $Fe_2O_3$ and $Fe_3O_4$. The films were corrosion-resistant up to 150 h owing to the formation of thin ($Cr_2O_3$ and/or ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$)-rich oxide layers. However, they failed when corroded at $900^{\circ}C$ for 300 h, resulting in the formation of layered oxide scales due to not only outward diffusion of Cr, Al, Si, Fe and N, but also inward movement of sulfur and oxygen.

The Effect of Passivation Film with Inorganic/Epoxy Layers on Life Time Characteristics of OLED Device (OLED 내구성에 미치는 무기/에폭시층 보호막의 영향)

  • The passivation films with epoxy layer on LiF, $SiN_x$ and LiF/$SiN_x$ inorganic layer were fabricated on OLED to protect device from the direct damage of $O_2$ and $H_2O$ and to apply for a buffer layer between OLED device and passivation multi-layer with organic/inorganic hybrid structure as to diminish the thermal stress and expansion. Red OLED doped with 1 vol.% Rubrene in $Alq_3$ was used as a basic device. The device structure was multi-layer of ITO(150 nm) / ELM200_HIL(50 nm) / ELM002_HTL(30 nm) / $Alq_3$: 1 vol.% Rubrene(30 nm) / $Alq_3$(30 nm) / LiF(0.7 nm) / Al(100 nm). LiF/epoxy applied as a protective layer didn't contribute to the improvement of life time. While in case of $SiN_x$/epoxy, damage was done in the passivation process because of difference in heat expansion between films which could occur during the formation of epoxy film. Using LiF/$SiN_x$/epoxy improved lifetime significantly without suffering damage in the process of forming films, therefore, the best structure of passivation film with inorganic/epoxy layers was LiF/$SiN_x$/E1.

  • agnesium Oxide (MgO) with a NaCI structure is well known to exhibit high secondary electron emission, excellent high temperature chemical stability, high thermal conductance and electrical insulating properties. For these reason MgO films have been widely used for a buffer layer of high $T_c$ superconducting and a protective layer for AC-plasma display panels to improve discharge characteristics and panel lifetime. Up to now MgO films have been synthesized by lE-beam evaporation, Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) and Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD), however there have been some limitations such as low film density and micro-cracks in films. Therefore magnetron sputtering process were emerged as predominant method to synthesis high density MgO films. In previous works, we designed and manufactured unbalanced magnetron source with high power density for the deposition of high quality MgO films. The magnetron discharges were sustained at the pressure of O.lmtorr with power density of $110W/\textrm{cm}^2$ and the maximum deposition rate was measured at $2.8\mu\textrm{m}/min$ for Cu films. In this study, the syntheses of MgO films were carried out by unbalanced magnetron sputtering with various $O_2$ partial pressure and specially target power densities, duty cycles and frequency using pulsed DC power supply. And also we investigated the plasma states with various $O_2$ partial pressure and pulsed DC conditions by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES). In order to confirm the relationships between plasma states and film properties such as microstructure and secondary electron emission coefficient were analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM) and ${\gamma}-Focused$ Ion Beam (${\gamma}-FIB$).

  • The global manufacturing industry has reached the limit to growth due to a long-term recession, the rise of labor cost and raw material. As a solution to these difficulties, we promote the 4th Industry Revolution based on ICT and sensor technology. Following this trend, this paper proposes the design of a model using manufacturing data in the protection film process for smart manufacturing innovation. In the protective film process, the manufacturing data of temperature, pressure, humidity, and motion and thermal image are acquired by various sensors for the raw material blending, stirring, extrusion, and inspection processes. While the acquired manufacturing data is stored in mass storage, A.I. platform provides time-series image analysis and its visualization.
