Traditionally, the thickness of fire protection materials of structural elements such as beam and column have been decided by fire test using the predominant steel section of $H-300{\times}300{\times}10{\times}15$ for column and $H-400{\times}200{\times}8{\times}13$ for beam in Korea. But this way of determination of fire protection thickness yields very unduly results. Because the temperature-increment rate of structural steel elements depends mainly on magnitude of their cross-areas. In general, the thicker size of cross-areas for structural elements, the lower temperature shows up. It had already proved that the fire protection thickness only depends on the size of cross-areas and the fire protection method for three-fide or four-side exposed conditions in European countries, the United State of America and so on. To demonstrate there would be differences among various cross-areas for structural elements, we conducted several fire tests with full-scale specimens of beams and columns. For the determination of critical temperature for steel section when the fire resistant performance is needed to be decided, we conducted with a loaded fire test for beam and column, respectively. The small column in 1.0 meter length and beam in 1.5 meter length were used in order to deprive the rational fire protection thickness of structural elements such as beam and column, respectively. After test, we could obtain there were significant temperature lass between higher cross-areas and lower cross-areas. The critical temperature of steel as a criterion is used 538$^{\circ}C$ for column and 593$^{\circ}C$ for beam which is from ASTM E 119 because we don't make provisions as critical temperature by elements. We could consider that the best way of determination of fire protection thickness is using the following multi-regression equation which was deprived from several fire tests using the concept of section factor, FR(column) = 0.17 +5191.49t A/Hp + 40.77t, FR(beam) = 0.25 +6899.31t A/Hp + 32.60t(where, FR means fire resistant time, t means thickness, A means cross-area and Hp means heated parameter).

Lightning electromagnetic fields are important issues for the evaluation of lightning induced overvoltage on power lines and for setting the appropriate protection level for power networks. Such electromagnetic fields are strongly dependent on lightning return stroke currents at different heights along the lightning channel. On the other hand, the ground reflection factor due to the difference between the return stroke channel impedance and the equivalent ground impedance at channel base can have an effect on the shape of the return stroke currents by entering additional reflected currents into the channel. In this paper, the effect of the ground reflection factor on the return stroke currents at different heights along a channel and the electromagnetic fields associated with the lightning channel at close distances are considered. Moreover, the behavior of the electromagnetic fields versus the reflection factor changes and the radial distance changes are considered and the results are discussed accordingly. The results illustrate that the reflection factor has a direct relationship with the values of the electromagnetic fields while this is usually ignored in earlier studies.
In its recent recommendation No. 60(1990), ICRP has newly introduced several terminology which had not existed in its prior recommendation No. 26(1977). Of these, a newly defined quantity 'Equivalent Dose' replacing the 'Dose Equivalent' of the ICRU concept has been recommended to be adopted in the radiation protection programme. However, since the committee still uses the 'Dose Equivalent' and 'Equivalent Dose' in its several publications, it is likely to provoke unnecessary confusions and misuses in applying these two quantities. In this paper were described the definition and difference between these two quantities to help in understanding of these two quantitites among the person involved in the radiation protection activities.

One of the biggest group of proteins influenced by protein kinase CK2 is formed by factors engaged in gene expression. Here we have reported recently identified yeast transcription elongation factor Elf1 as a new substrate for both monomeric and tetrameric forms of CK2. Elf1 serves as a substrate for both the recombinant CK2$\alpha$' ($K_m$ 0.38 ${\mu}M$) and holoenzyme ($K_m$$0.13\;{\mu}M$). By MALDI-MS we identified the two serine residues at positions 95 and 117 as the most probable in vitro phosphorylation sites. Co-immunoprecypitation experiments show that Elf1 interacts with catalytic ($\alpha$ and $\alpha$') as well as regulatory ($\beta$ and $\beta$') subunits of CK2. These data may help to elucidate the role of protein kinase CK2 and Elf1 in the regulation of transcription elongation.

The offshore structures exposed to harsh corrosive such as the marine environment is essential for the quality management technique throughout the life cycle of initial design, construction and operation. Also, it should satisfy the design life and ensure the safety of the substructure with optimization of design process. This study focused on optimization of design condition for corrosion protection of wind turbine structure and computational analyzing was performed to evaluate the performance of corrosion protection with utilizing practical experimental data. We expect this analytical study contribute to improve the corrosion maintenance stability and economical efficiency of designing wind turbine structures. As a result, the design of cathodic protection system using sacrificial anodes required accurate identification of current density in order to meet the long term design life, which can be seen that a change of structure surface's coating breakdown factor is one of the key influencing factors.

In the context of increasing threats of EMP by neighboring countries in the security situation on the Korean peninsula, EMP protection facilities are a very important means of ensuring military operational capability. These EMP protection facilities should be constructed by comprehensively judging various factors about operation units. However, Defense Military Facilities Criteria and National Technical Guideline for EMP protection require at least 80dB shielding effectiveness without considering other options. In this study, we use objective and statistical methods to refine the consideration of the required EMP protection level based on the opinions of the experts. To do this, the Delphi technique is used for this study, and the survey was conducted from 53 experts related to EMP protection standard in the military and civilian sectors. The first questionnaire investigated the appropriate level of EMP protection, and the second questionnaire analyzed the factors considered in establishing EMP protection level. As a result of the factor analysis on the opinions of the experts, it was concluded that the EMP protection requirement level should be determined by variables of METT + TC.
SPEX SkinSkan is a newly developed spectrofluorometer that can calculate transmission of UVA on the surface of human skin as a non-invasive method. We have investigated UVA protection factors of Japanese over-the-counter sunscreens using SPEX SkinSkan. This non-invasive method is useful to know UVA protection of sunscreens in vivo.

As the risk of technical leakage is increasing, technology protection support systems for small and medium-sized businesses have gained attention. This paper analyzed the perception gap of the user and policy-maker regarding technology protection support systems. First, to identify key elements of technology protection support systems and construct measurement factors, interviews with experts are conducted. Then, surveys are conducted to analyze the perception differences between the users and policy-makers. Factor analysis and ANOVA have been utilized to analyze survey results. The result shows that the perception gaps exist in the following areas: management system, cost reduction, copyright protection, customer satisfaction, leakage prevention, and awareness. To enhance the effectiveness of technology protection support systems, this paper suggests technology protection support systems should be customized in terms of the company's size and type of busines.

In this study, we measured the effects of UV protection efficiency of the polarity of oil, the type of emulsion, the viscosity of product, the type of thickener and light stabilizer in sunscreen. As a result, even higher polarity of the oil, UV protection efficiency is measured high (Butyloctyl salicylate: SPF 44.10, PA 7.93). In case of low, it was measured low conversely (Dimethicone: SPF 16.40, PA 5.57). In case of emulsion types, UV protection efficiency of W/O emulsion which organic sunscreen agent is based in the outer phase is measured higher than O/W emulsion. According to increasing of viscosity, UV protection efficiency tends to increase proportionally. However, the size of emulsion particles and the kinds of thickener has no effect to UV protection efficiency. Also light stabilizer was found to be an important factor affecting the UV protection efficiency. As a result, it is able to improve UV protection efficiency and it has potential which improve the economical effect of the sunscreen without increasing sunscreen agents.
The study aimed to measure the levels of radiation protection for radiologists in medical institutions in three environmental categories (physical, administrative and social) and to establish a data base which can be used to increase awareness of environmental radiation protection in medical institutions within Korea. The study surveyed 10% of radiologists working in radiology departments in medical institutions which are supervised by the National Dose Registry overseen by the Korean Food and Drug Administration(KFDA). This study found that the level of environmental radiation protection was higher in the capital area and in larger hospitals. On the other hand, the study shows environmental radiation protection was lower in the Youngnam area and in clinics. Results from the questionnaires indicate the level of environmental radiation protection was higher when radiologists were given an individual dosimeter but lowest when the radiation protection apron quality test was conducted. Environmental radiation protection is an important factor for radiologists to conduct activities in a safe and protected environment. However, this study shows there are differences in the level of environmental radiation protection in medical institutions and location within Korea. In particular, the level of environmental radiation protection was lower in clinics, appropriate intervention strategies befitting these conditions are needed based on medical institution classification and location in order to improve the level of environmental protection.
