The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the viability of employing the intonation exaggeration technique proposed in [4] in teaching English prosody to university students. Fifty-six female university students, twenty-two in a control group and the other thirty-four in an experimental group, participated in a teaching experiment as part of their regular coursework for a five-and-a-half week period. For the study material of the experimental group, a set of utterances was synthesized whose intonation contours had been exaggerated whereas the control group was given the same set without any intonation modification. Recordings from both before and after the teaching experiment were made and one sentence set was chosen for analysis. The parameters analyzed were the pitch range, words containing the highest and lowest pitch points, and the 3-dimensional comparison of the three prosodic features [2]. An AXB and subjective rating test were also performed along with a qualitative screening of the individual intonation contours. The results showed that the experimental group performed slightly better in that their intonation contour was more similar to that of the model native speaker's utterance. This appears to suggest that the intonation exaggeration technique can be employed in teaching English prosody to students.

This paper presents segmental labeling conventions proposed by SiTEC (Speech Information Technology Engineering Center) 2002 and proposes a new directions of a revision for a simpler version. The paper also reviews one of the prosody labelling conventions for Korean, K-ToBI convention(ver. 3.1) and proposes a couple of modifications and suggestions.

This study compared pitch range, total duration of utterances, pause, boundary tones and mean duration of intonation final syllables of 4 sentences produced by 5 transgenders (male to female) to those of twenty normal adults. Voice analysis was performed by Praat (version 4.049). The results showed that there were differences in pitch range, total duration of utterances, pause, boundary tones and mean duration of intonation final syllables among the 3 groups(transgenders, normal males and normal females).

본 논문에서는 문장의 문법 구조로부터 운율 경계 강도를 효율적으로 예측하기 위해서, 문법 정보의 세밀함에 따라 품사셋을 3단계로 설정하였다. 그리고 운율 경계 강도를 예측하는데 있어서 어떠한 품사셋이 최적인가를 알아보기 위해 150문장의 코퍼스를 구축하였으며, 세 종류의 품사셋에 대해 코퍼스를 수작업으로 품사분석을 하였다. 청취실험으로 결정한 운율 경계 강도를 바탕으로 확률론적인 모델링 방법을 사용하여 예측하는 실험을 하였다. 이러한 예측결과를 평가 비교하여 최적의 품사셋을 정하였다.

In this paper prosodic characteristics of French language are analysed with a corpus of radio interview. Intonation patterns are interpreted in terms of raising pattern, focal raising pattern and falling pattern. Accentual prominence is classified in two types, rhythmic accent and focal accent. Focal accent permit to explain the cohesion in a utterance or between two utterances. As a prosodic variable of discourse pauses are described by their form of realization (filled pause, silent pause, hesitation etc), their distribution and their function in utterance.

In this paper, a decision-tree-based Markov model for phrase break prediction is proposed. The model takes advantage of the non-homogeneous-features-based classification ability of decision tree and temporal break sequence modeling based on the Markov process. For this experiment, a text corpus tagged with parts-of-speech and three break strength levels is prepared and evaluated. The complex feature set, textual conditions, and prior knowledge are utilized; and chunking rules are applied to the search results. The proposed model shows an error reduction rate of about 11.6% compared to the conventional classification model.

The purpose of this study is to investigate prosodic characteristics of cerebral palsic adults' speech. The results showed some correlations between their articulation scores and prosodic properties of their speech: speakers with low articulation scores showed slower speech rate, larger number of IPs and pauses, and longer duration of pauses. They also showed steeper slopes of [L +H] in their APs.

This paper proposes the speech synthesis method using Korean prosodic rules as an important technique for Korean speech synthesis. The prosodic model for speech synthesis is composed of accentual phrases and intonational phrases which are derived from hierarchical structure of prosody. This prosodic model controls duration time, intonation and pause of synthesized speech. Synthesis units constitute of demi-syllables and VCV-triphones which can make unlimited vocabularies, and TD-PSOLA is used a sthe synthesis method.

문장 독립형 화자인식 시스템에 운율정보 사용을 제안한다. 스펙트럴 특징패턴만을 주로 사용하고 있는 기존의 화자인식 시스템은 채널왜곡이나 기타 잡음환경에서 성능이 크게 저하된다. 그러나 화자의 speaking style을 반영하는 운율정보는 주위환경에 강인한 특성을 갖는다. 적합한 코드북 크기와 피치 컨투어 특징 벡터의 길이를 실험 치로 구하여 자동차 소음과 백색 가우시안 소음이 섞인 음성에 대하여 화자인식 실험을 하였다. 실험 결과 소음 환경에서 운율 정보를 이용한 화자 dsltlr 시스템이 스펙트럴 모델보다 인식율이 높음을 보였다.
