  • A proportional pressure control valve has a nonmagnetic ring which is inserted in between a coil and plunger and it can get attraction force in proportion to input current by an influence of control cone. Therefore, a proportional pressure control valve is applied to a servo system as substitution of servo valve and an on-off solenoid valve widely because control of a high level is possible and pollution level is low. The purpose of this study is to develop domestic model of a proportional pressure control valve, and a test model was designed and manufactured through valve system analysis and finite element analysis. And comparison between results of theoretical analysis and static / dynamic characteristics test were carried out on a manufactured test model, and it was confirmed that it has excellent performance in comparison with other foreign products.

  • This study proposes the development and performance evaluation of electronic proportional control valve having an LVDT. The electronic proportional control valve is composed of hydraulic valve, proportional solenoid and controller. LVDT is to reduce the steady state error for the reference input of the controller by the feedback signal to detect the displacement of the spool. Designed LVDT is applied to the common proportional valve. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed valve, the hydraulic test equipment was developed and flow tests were carried out. From experimental results, it was proved that the hysteresis was less than 1% based on the maximum flow rate.

  • There are two types of solenoid actuator for force and position control of the fluid power system. One is an on-off solenoid actuator and the other is an electro-magnetic proportional actuator. They have some different characteristics for attraction force according to solenoid shape. Attraction force of the on-off solenoid actuator only depends on flux density. And the stroke-force characteristics of the proportional solenoid actuator are determined by the shape of the control cone. In this paper, steady state characteristics of the solenoid actuator for electro-hydraulic proportional valve determined by the shape of control cone are analyzed using finite element method and it is confirmed that the proportional solenoid actuator has a constant attractive force in the control region independently on the stroke position. And the shape of control cone is optimized using 1+1 evolution strategy to get a constant force. In the optimization algorithm, control cone length, thickness and taper length are used as a design parameter.

  • Active body control system is an important system for determining the driving stability and ride comfort of the vehicle. Active body control system is composed of a cylinder unit power supply unit, and control valve unit. Control valve is a proportional pressure control valve, the dynamic characteristics of the valve affects the performance of the active body control system. We have developed an analytical model, we analyzed the design parameters of the proportional pressure control valve. Further, by knowing the design parameters effect on the system and to optimize the design parameters, and improved performance of the dynamic properties.

  • Proportional control solenoid is a type of modulating valve that can continuously control the valve position with magnetic force of solenoid. Recent microcontroller based digital servocontroller for proportional valve is being developed toward the smart valve with additional features such as enhanced control algorithm for finer process and intelligent on-board diagnosis for maintenance. In this paper, development of servocontroller network control with CAN bus which is free from problems of security and network traffic jam is presented. Design of network control system includes modes of communication between master and slave, assignment of 29bit message identifier and message objects, transaction of communication sequence, etc. Monitoring function and control experiments for remote valve through CAN network prove the extended function of smart valve control system.

  • Repetitive and proportional-resonant controllers can effectively reject grid harmonics in grid-connected inverters because of their high gains at the fundamental frequency and the corresponding harmonics. However, the performances of these controllers can seriously deteriorate if the grid frequency deviates from its nominal value. Non-ideal proportional-resonant controllers provide better immunity to variations in grid frequency by widening resonant peaks at the expense of reducing the gains of the peaks, which reduces the effectiveness of the controller. This paper proposes a repetitive control scheme for grid-connected inverters that can track changes in grid frequencies and keep resonant peaks lined up with grid frequency harmonics. The proposed controller is implemented using a digital signal processor. Simulation and practical results are presented to demonstrate the controller capabilities. Results show that the performance of the proposed controller is superior to that of a proportional-resonant controller.

  • Optimal collision avoidance algorithm for unmanned aerial vehicles based on proportional navigation guidance law is investigated this paper. Although proportional navigation guidance law is widely used in missile guidance problems, it can be used in collision avoidance problem by guiding the relative velocity vector to collision avoidance vector. The optimal navigation coefficient can be obtained if an obstacle if an obstacle moves at constant velocity vector. The stability of the proposed algorithm is also investigated. The stability can be obtained by choosing a proper navigation coefficient.

  • Proportional directional control valves (PDCVl adjust the amount of flow as well as flow direction in response to an electrical signal. This valves includes direct operated valves with or without spool position feedback. This paper investigates if it is possible to control pressure of fluids by means of the PDCV. A pressure signal is feed back to the Proportional-Integral (PI) controller, which is based upon a personal computer (PC). The PI control algorithm is implemented in a graphical programming language of LabVIEW. The results of experiments show the PDCV can be used a multi function valve of pressure control as well as direction control.

  • Recently, as the environmental regulation for earth moving equipment has been tightened, advanced systems using electronic control have been introduced for energy savings. An IMV(Independent Metering Valve), which consists of four 2-way valves, is one of the electro-hydraulic control systems that provides more flexible controllability and potential for energy savings in excavators, when compared to the conventional 4-way spool valve system. To fully realize an IMV, a two-stage bi-directional flow control valve which can regulate the large amount of flow in both directions, should be developed in advance. A simple design that allows proportional flow control to apply the pilot pressure from the current-controlled solenoid to the spring loaded flow control spool and thus valve displacement, is proportional to the solenoid current. However, this open-loop type valve is vulnerable to flow force which directly affects the valve displacement. Force feedback servo of which the position loop is closed by the feedback spring which interconnects the solenoid valve and flow control spool, could compensate for the flow force. In this study, linearity for the solenoid current input and robustness against load pressure disturbance is investigated by linear analysis of the static nonlinear equations for the IMV proportional flow control valve with feedback spring. Gains of the linear system confirm the performance improvement with the feedback spring design.

  • The paper presents the stability characteristics of a rotor-bearing system supported by actively controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing. The proportional and derivative controls including coupled motion are adopted for the control algorithm to control the hydrodynamic journal bearing with a circumferentially groove. Also, the cavitation algorithm implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary condition is adopted to predict cavitation regions in the fluid film more accurately than a conventional analysis which uses the Reynolds condition. The stability characteristics of a rotor-bearing system supported by actively controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing are investigated for various control gains with the Routh-Hurwitz criteria using the linear dynamic coefficients which are obtained from the perturbation method. It is found that the speed at onset of the instability is increased for both proportional and derivative control of the bearing. It is also found that the proportional and derivative control of the coupled motion is more effective than that of the uncoupled motion.
